Which movie do you think will make the most money?

Which movie do you think will be the better film?

If they were both released on the same day, which would you go see first?

Do you think there is any other 2015 film that will remotely come close to the money these will make? Or maybe even a video game?

Which are you more excited about being in Kingdom Hearts?
Star Wars
Star Wars
Avengers
Yes
Kingdom Hearts is THE DEVIL

Marvel literally changed the way movies are being made. That's a pretty damn big cultural impact.

When Star Wars came out and made more money trough merchandise than trough tickets, it ruined the film world to this very day. MCU, Transformers etc are offsprings of that disaster.

Yeah? But, you said they kickstarted the super hero movie genre. They didn't. Sony did with Spider-Man and X-Men. Marvel had nothing to do with either movie.

U WOT M8?

Who do you think owns Spider-Man and X-Men?

It wont come down to this at all. In fact this is pretty much a non factor as both fanboys will see both.

The major factor here is the teen demographic and the general audience.
SW will appeal most to 20's year olds while Avengers will appeal more to teens to to knowing and liking the Marvel/Avengers brand.

The movie rights? Sony. You were talking about movies when you used the word film, I assumed. You are attempting to give Marvel credit for movies they didn't make. That's all there is to it, and that's nonsense.

Would you think I was ridiculous for saying that Marvel almost killed the super-hero genre with Spider-Man 3 and X-Men 3? Of course, 'cause they had nothing to do with them.

You must be high.

What do you mean? Are you saying Marvel deserves credit for Sony making a Spider-Man movie? Why?

Star Wars for everything. The Avengers is hot right now, but Star Wars is in a league of its own. It is without a doubt the most important movie franchise of all time. This is like comparing the 2013 Seattle Seahawks with the 1980s San Francisco 49ers dynasty.

Sony and Fox own the movie rights. Marvel has no say in the movies whatsoever.

I wanna say star wars of course

But then i know more of todays kiddies like avengers more, put it this way the avengers cartoon is very popular with kids, star wars rebels is in the wrong timeslot in the u.s

Avengers has had several phase related movies, winter soldier, iron man 3, thor 2.
combine those potential new fans of the separate phase 2 movies, plus the old fans of avengers and everything phase one.

If todays kids equal the biggest box office draw, then it could be age of ultron

However never underestimate the power of the Star Wars. If rebels season 2 gets a new better timeslot and gains a better audience, the new star wars shorts they are making for online viewing, and when footage of the 3 main orogonal trilogy cast emerges it should renew interest.

TLDR, - My result is unsure.

Age of Ultron will both make more money and be the better film. The creative team behind the Avengers has already proven itself and the first trailer was fantastic, while there are still a lot of questions left to answered for the new Star Wars movie.

A part of me really wants to say Star Wars, but JJ Abrams couldn't save Star Trek so what does that bode for modern science fiction films, with GotG being the exception of course? I love science fiction, but I think modern audiences are more likely to favor Age of Ultron and other superhero films.

Isn't this the second thread now?

People who are saying either one will "crush" the other will look pretty silly when it's all said and done.

It'll be relatively close (within <$200m) between the two I think.

Whether you like it or not, Star Wars is the unknown quantity at the moment. How big will it be overseas? Especially China, which will be the deciding market I think.

Anyone who thinks Age of Ultron is making less then the The Avengers has rocks in their heads.

Avengers made $895m worldwide 3 years ago. In China it made $84m, 1/10th of the worldwide market.
Ironman 3 made $805m worldwide 2 years ago. In China it made $121m, about 1/6th of the WW market.
Winter Soldier made $454m worldwide last year. In China it made $115m, over 1/4 of the WW market!!
Guardians of the Galaxy $434 worldwide last year. China it made $96m, just under 1/4 of the WW market

Going on past MARVEL movies, Age of Ultron will likely be hitting $160-$200m in China alone.

I just don't think Star Wars has that appeal in Asia.

Hype is one thing and Star Wars easily wins that if we go on youtube views but youtube is not prominent in Asia? Youtube is blocked in China, yes?

So for me, Age of Ultron will take the weekend and overall but if both came out the same day Star Wars for me.

Star Trek is a lot more niche than Star Wars.

Sci-Fi movies tend to overperform in China though, especially when they are heavy on special effects.

Interstellar: 68% of US total.
Edge of Tomorrow: 65% of US total.
Transformers 4: 122% of US total.
Pacific Rim: 108% of US total.

We can probably look at trailer views on Youku or Baidu searches to get a signal of hype.

Avengers AOU for both.

Star Wars won't be the better movie simply because it'll just establishing stuff and ends on a cliffhanger.
Also...lens flare porn.

Nearly every Marvel film has acted as a teaser for stuff later, so I'm not sure how that aspect is exclusive for SW.

And we haven't seen a lens flare yet (and Abrams wants to emulate the style of SW, right down to the type of film).

Age of Ultron is going to be awesome, but we've seen the Avengers assembled already and it was only 3 years ago. I'm personally more hyped about Force Awakens just because it's mother fucking Star Wars and it's been a decade since the last Star Wars movie. Also, never would I and many fans imagined that we will live to see another Star Wars movie. So it doesn't matter who makes the most money or which movie is going to be better imo.
Force Awakens > Age of Ultron.

Star Wars will be the better film by default since it's not another capeshit film.

It will also make more money because it's Star Wars.

Force Awakens > Age of Ultron.

Eh, there's already 6 Star Wars films so I think people are tired of the franchise.

There's only 1 Avengers movie so far.

I would say star wars but this isva whole new animal. A star wars without Lucas's suffocating grip. Avengers may be popular but star wars is a cultural phenomenon.

It'll be close money wise Id say Avenges 2 edges it out the first one is one of the biggest movies of time and marvel has been delivering in a big way lately.
Star Wars will be better quality wise.

Just imagine...a new star wars...with positive word of mouth, people are going to lose their minds. . Grandma and grandpa, mom and dad and the kids. Everyones going to see this.

Star Wars will be interesting to see because you've got these distinct groups going to see it. You have older fans that saw the OT in theaters and were let down by the prequels. They're excited to see a Star Wars without Lucas and hoping JJ can turn things around. Then there's this second younger group that knew of and maybe were fans of Star Wars but the prequels were the first they saw in theaters. I was part of this group and from what I remember the reaction me and my friends had were mostly positive. RotS especially got good reviews and was looked on fondly at the time. Personally I've re-watched them as I got older and soured on them, but I'm not sure how many people overall had that change of opinion, probably not as many as you'd think. Then there's this even younger group of people in that same 10-15 range I was when The Phantom Menace came out and this will be their first Star Wars. I'm not sure what Star Wars even is to these kids or how popular things like the cartoons and video games are among them.

I think Star Wars will make more in North America but Avengers will take the overall total on the strength of it's Chinese box office especially. Quality wise I expect them to be about the same, myself I'm definitely more interested in Star Wars.

Money : Force Awakens. And it won't even be close. Force Awakens will multiply Ultron's lifetime box office by a factor of at least 1.25. This is even more impressive, since I fully expect Ultron to set new records for opening weekend totals. Force Awakens will decimate those records.

Quality : At this point, hard to determine. I feel like I already know what we're signing on for in Ultron - just about every core piece is a known quantity, and the trailer suggested some really high-quality stuff that makes me excited. But man, Star Wars. So much has been kept so secret, and every element so carefully doled out - I can't say what it is. But I like what they've shown so far. In terms of Tomatometer, I'll give a slight edge to Star Wars (if only because I worry about Avengers hitting franchise fatigue.)

Same Day : Star Wars. The curiosity is too strong to avoid.

Closest Competitor : Hunger Games Part 3 Part 2. It won't be close.

Both films will be great, but AoU will earn more because it is already part of well-oiled Marvel production and promotional machine.

Star Wars hypes me up like nothing else and I've already seen the trailer dozens and dozens of times. With that said, this is a tough one. If episode VII is great, then it'll win by quite a bit I'd wager. It's the first Star Wars in 10 years, and the sequel the world has been waiting for over three decades. The foreign market has expanded dramatically since Episode III, so even if it's mediocre it's going to clean house big time.

It's crazy really, how hyped I was for Age of Ultron, until I saw the Star War teaser that completed overshadowed it. So all in all, I'll go with Star Wars for all the above except maybe critical reception .

I think some of you may be underestimating the power of the dark side.

Can't say I agree. The movie is going to have to be legitimately great to pull over a billion, and blockbuster films tend not to take the kinds of risks that allow for "great."

Star Wars does well with people who have fond memories of the original trilogy, and most of those are 30 to 40 years old now at least. These aren't the people that camp out or line up day 1 for midnight releases anymore.

You're going to have to convince 17,18, 19 year olds that got burned by attack of the clones that star wars is totally worth it this time for a strong opening weekend, and we're past the point where special effects alone put asses in seats.

Avengers doesn't have this problem. It's bringing tons of goodwill to the table and is extremely relevant to the teen and preteen set in a way that star wars hasn't been for a couple of decades.

Star wars will do blockbuster numbers, but I can see this one being more dark knight rises than TDK.

17-19 year olds were like 5 when Epsiode 1 came out and likely loved it. I know I did when I was 8 and watched it. Hell, they're really not that bad imo. As good as the originals? Clearly not, but still.

All I see is a lot of younglings in here who have no idea how big of a Juggernaut Star Wars is.

Star Wars will absolutely slay the Avengers.

And fucking lol at the guy saying JP4 is going to outdo Avengers.

God, no please don't

Star Wars is taking this box office I think. 10 year period between films. This film will be pushing the story forward into uncharted territory and people are hungry for that not to mention the clone wars has built up a considerable fan base. My nephews and all their friends love that stuff, anecdotal but still. Han, Luke and Leia will put asses in seats. Star Wars in IMAX3D likely better suited for it than those remakes, massive marketing campaign likely kicking off with an IMAX exclusive trailer or something attached to the Avengers, not to mention Star Wars Battlefront is supposed to release this holiday likely alongside the film.

I'm not saying Age of Ultron won't be competitive or even close, it will be, I simply believe the odds are stacked too high in Star Wars favor. It'll basically be released uncontested as far as I know. Mockingjay pt. 2 could be a threat but it'll be a month stale.

Well, I guess the real winner is Disney.

Star Wars will make more money. No clue if it will be better movie.

With games..not sure. GTAV made more money than any of those two movies will, but I don't see anything as big as GTAV on horizon this year.
