I've been playing for about 3 weeks now had a few questions

What do you guys think about the Corvus gun for VS. Feels decent at range in VR but is it effective ingame? I have the Hydra completely kitted out and wanted to branch out to a gun that is better at range to replace the Pulsar on that 3rd loadout. I guess the other option is the CME. The rest of my medic kit is pretty much decked out at this point.

What is yalls opinion on having IR/NV Scope + Suppressor Loadouts for night combat. I feel that the added stealth helps out for LA and in general the scope is very helpful at night esp on Amerish where the ground color makes IFF extra hard.

I use the Corvus for anything other than CQC and I like it, but the rate of fire can be very noticeable in certain situations.

My outfit isn't very strict, but it's generally frowned upon for medics to be anywhere but bringing up the rear so it helped me kind of break my prior tendency to be a frontline combat medic who dies instead of a medic that undoes death and ices a few stragglers.

You might want to look at one of the SMGs to give yourself some more versatility.

Roadmap update

September - Resource Revamp
Our primary goal for re-addressing the resource system is to make sure it does a better job making resources drive the combat taking place, make sure they have real strategic value, and generally have more meaning than they have currently.

This is a relatively complicated system - you know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. I've done my best to try and distill the essence of a 25 page design document down into something more easily digestible, so these are just the broad strokes of the plan we're currently mulling over.

  • Resources are reduced to a single currency and acquisition timers are removed.
  • Inventory for infantry items is removed - changed to pay on use
  • Individual Bases/Facilities supply Resources for local players
  • Bases/Facilities have a power level that is drained by providing resources to local players
  • There is a passive power regen to offset the cost of small skirmishes and to restore full power when no combat is taking place.
  • Full powered bases provide more resources than low powered ones
  • The more players being given resources, the faster the power drain
  • Addition of Auraxium Crystals/Mines as a power source
  • These are resource nodes added in between facilities
  • Vehicles fitted with appropriate equipment can load up auraxium at these nodes
  • This auraxium can be transported to a base to manually refill it’s power reserves
  • When a base is totally out of power, no resources are provided to the friendly troops in the area. This allows the attacker cut off entrenched defenders from using resources if they can keep supply vehicles from breaking their blockade

There's still a lot of other little nuances and details but I think that gives a decent overall picture. It's a pretty significant departure from the current system - do you think this plan would make resources a more interesting component of the game? Does it go too far? Let us know.

November - Continent Locking
Continent Locking (or the "Continental Lattice" in the post-lattice era) is on the horizon and will hopefully enhance the feel and depth of PlanetSide 2's overall metagame significantly. Here's what the basic plan looks like so far:

  • Each of our current continents (Indar, Esamir, Amerish) becomes a home continent for an Empire
  • Each empire has a single “Home Warpgate” on their home continent that can never be taken from them
  • All other warpgates can now change hands like regular territory (details here still being worked out, so let us know if you have ideas)
  • By taking control of a warpgate, your empire can now advance along any continental lattice connected to it
  • Hossin is given three warpgates, one connected to Indar, one to Esamir, and one to Amerish. There is no home warpgate on Hossin.
  • Battle Islands fall between continents on all the links not leading to Hossin

What do you guys think?

They REALLY need to start doing this for all of the features they have planned.....at least the major ones. Give us a little bit more hope and insight into what's coming up.

People really arent going to like this one:
Resources are reduced to a single currency and acquisition timers are removed.
I expect tons of complaining about it on the forums

And OMG, i swear I thought of a resource system just like this where each base had a certain amount of resources or a "pool" that would be drained as more and more players spawned there. This will really make us able to break down a base and drain them of resources. They can have all the players they want but if they dont have enough resources to get a tank/aircraft then they'll get camped.

I also think it would be a good idea to make it cost resources to switch classes to make class switching less of a quick-counter (example: aircraft coming so EVERYBODY switch to AA maxes!). It would make that less viable and make class switching more of a 'permanent decision'...at least in the short term. So you cant just switch on a whim all the time.

I think it largely depends on how much an individual player can stockpile. Like, for attackers, I assume since they're in enemy territory they won't have any resource gain so if they keep spawning from a Sunderer there will probably be a point where attackers run out of resources so they can't pull MAXes or load up on grenades and C4.

Tough to speculate too much now. Its interesting information, but still a ways out and still a lot of questions to be answered.

Yay, they are finally adding the RTS elements too. Collecting auraxium and transporting it back to the bases sounds awesome. Escort missions here we come!

I wonder if maybe this resource collector vehicle could then be deployed to give attackers some sort of trickle resource gain they don't get completely screwed over.

It SOUNDS good, but super ambitious. I'm scared.

Also, I BETTER get my fucking acquisition timer certs back. I put in about 3000 alone into those. You can't just wipe an entire line and not give the certs back.

Also, I wonder which empire is getting which continent? My guess is NC Indar, VS Amerish, and TR Esamir. Possibly TR and NC switched.

I'm thinking they'll continue to do warpgate rotations, which would be swapping up the home continents every other update, or have a player driven system in which an empire can cap everything and the warpgates reset.

e: More on the resource system from Malorn

Few clarifications to some questions here and on other feedback channels:

There are two resources: Facility resource (power), and Personal Resource (nanites). Personal resource income is affected by power level. So a facility at 50% power will have half the resource income to players being supplied by that facility.

Power is drained based on players being supplied, not their actions. So one player pulling a vehicle is not going to be harmful. The more players being supplied the more power is drained (it's a stepwise function, not linear). Idea is that small groups will have little or no effect on power drain but it is a much more significant factor in larger battles. The 'steps' closely map to the activity levels - squad, 2 squads, platoon, 2 platoons, etc.

Warpgates provide a small amount of power inflow to connected facilities. This is enough to offset any drain for small groups, and empty facilities will slowly recharge over time on their own (so no running around fueling up bases). Severing lattice where possible can be very impactful to the facilities that are cut off.

How players spend their resulting resources does not affect other players. That part of the system works the same as it does today - players have resources and they spend them on vehicles and consumables. Instead of having 3 separate resources there will be one resource.

Roughly speaking you should be able to go from empty to full resources in about 10 minutes in ideal conditions. That may change but that's the ballpark. The goal is that if you want to do one thing like drive tanks or fly aircraft, you can do that if you save your resources for those things. We also don't want to have too much save-up power so you are affected when resource income is reduced. Deep pockets insulates that so we don't want pockets to be too deep.

Acquisition timer certs will likely be refunded. This seems like the most fair way to handle it.

The power-fetching aspect is intended to be focused around large battles to spread them out. Power-carrying vehicles would show up on the continent map so they would be mobile objectives, primarily for vehicle combat. This isn't intended to be a boring tedious thing so much as a sort of capture-the-flag style gameplay where the power carrier is highly likely to see action.

Warpgates are facilities that do not suffer power drain, so they are always available as a recharge point.

Of course everything above is subject to change, and that's one reason we want your feedback!

Indar might need some lattice rebalancing on the SouthEast warpgate.

The whole Tawrich area is a complete clusterfuck.

Ended up grabbing the Corvus. As long as I dont run into buildings faceplanting people its pretty epic. People do not expect to be shot from range like that against VS.

^Good choice.

In general I prefer higher damage to higher rate of fire, but the Sirius' rate of fire is sick.

Yeah I keep reading it comes down to how much you trust your aim with regards to the ammo capacity.

My computer is old so maybe the Sirius. I will have to see if it lets me trial it. Is laser sight the best setup for it because i used to run the Hydra that way and I feel I am just too hardwired to use ADS and I reverted all my loadouts to handgrips after a while. I guess if I ADS the Eridani then i can just get the big mag for it.

Do you feel the SMG is really better than the respective cqb option for each non-infil class? That being something like the VX67/Serpent, Hydra, Shotgun?

EDIT: I came across this thread on the SOE forums

https://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/smg-analysis.141987/

So apparently the Sirius is just flat out better. Plus it has the silly looks. I will have to trial it tomorrw

Rank 3, and I just can't keep up. Everyone is just so much stronger, and has better weapons. ;_;

How am I honestly suppose to level up?
I'm really starting to regret installing this game.

You regret installing a free game?

I don't know what faction you are, but generally speaking the weapons the unlockable weapons aren't "better" just different. You just gotta learn to play conservatively and pick your shots.

Most of the weapons are sidegrades. Some are extremely niche like the SMG class.

Just know what type of weapon you are using and dont throw yourself into a situation where you were outclassed.

I still suck at gunplay compared to some but I am getting better. It just takes practice.

Firstly, there are no "better" weapons. Every weapon has a pro and a con. Lots of the default weapons are pretty damn good.

My suggestion? Go medic, heal people/revive, and don't rambo. Stay with your squad/platoon.

Also to add, as well as medic, Engi also rakes in the certs as well. Between the medic gun and engi gun, long as you stay with the group (group being a squad or just following the zerg) you will rack up the certs quick. add in the engis ammo drops and its even faster...

feel free to add me in game Anton668 / VS / Mattherson / Azure Twilight

Don't give up. Trust me.

I was in your shoes a few months ago, and the game was even less new player friendly back then. It is a lot to take in, and you will probably die a lot.

But you won't regret it.

My advice again, go medic. Their default gun is a good jack of all trades gun. Plus you can hang back, heal/revive, while learning the game.

Do NOT play this game like Battlefield or Call of Duty. 1 player will not make a difference like they can in those games. You will be ripped to shreds. Also, join a squad (platoon preferably). It will increase your enjoyment.

Thinking, I hope I have enough room on my ssd for the patch. Else it's time to grab another ssd.

Nothing particularly offensive in the patch. Esamir lattice should at least make alerts there not crazy frustrating anymore. I'm sure the official forums will find some affront to God in this.

There was some QQ about a few bases being more heavily walled off but thats about all I saw.

Pretty happy having a 2nd lattice continent now, as long as the lattice connections make sense. Indar has a few trouble spots with this.

It's been a while since I posted this, a reminder for new players if you want to play with some more GAFers

gafplayersi6j8r.png

New players fill out this form: Planetside 2 GAF Players

This is for the soldier that you'll use to play with other GAF players; you may submit any other alternate soldiers you want people to be able to find you as on other servers. You can also opt to be sent an invite to the GAF outfits via the form.

The NeoGAF player list can list can be accessed here. Sort the list by your faction of choice and send out friend invites after you submit your own character to the list.

Graph data can be viewed here.

This list was purged from the launch rush on 3/15/13. The original list can be viewed here.

Here it is guys, you have 24 hours to enter.

Thanks for doing this!

Aww. If I resend it with just that part, will that mess me up?

Cool of you to do this.

I don't believe it matters what you do as long as you do have that string in there, but you can have/are supposed copy paste the whole line as stated in the instruction.
