Platinum explains why Bayonetta 2 is a Wii U exclusive

So what happens if Bayonetta 2 sells poorly because the Wii U is third in the console war? Who are they going to blame?
Platinum do not make games with sales in mind first and foremost, so they will continue making high quality games like they've been doing for years.

To anyone that has posted in this thread about not wanting to have to buy a Wii U in order to play Bayonetta 2 (or if you haven't said it but agree with it), I have a question that I would like you to answer. If you received a Wii U as a gift (i.e. you meow have a Wii U at no cost to you), would you purchase Bayonetta 2 on Day 1? (or ASAP upon receiving your Wii U if Bayonetta 2 is already released?)

If your answer is yes, then you know what to ask as a present for your birthday/Christmas/graduation/whatever that's worth celebrating. Problem solved.

If your answer is no, get out of the thread. There is no possible justification for you to post here. IT'S BEEN NEARLY 18 MONTHS SINCE WE FIRST KNEW ABOUT THE GAME'S WII U EXCLUSIVITY! Go play the multitude of amazing games on your PS4/XB1 and GET OVER IT!

CAN THE BITCHING FINALLY END, PLEASE?!

I mean, I'm with you. I sometimes wonder if people are really so upset about this happening, or rather they just like to keep riling it up endlessly. A troll, if you will. It's hard to believe that people are so upset about Bayo 2, a game which really shouldn't even exist.

Then again, it's Nintendo. People would rather see it on the nGage than on the WiiU.

Whether Bayo2 on Wii U sells 5,000 or 5 million copies, the game has made money for Platinum. Whatever the case, its still far better than the alternative - selling 0 copies because the game simply would not exist without Nintendo.

Now see, this is how I view Beyond Good and Evil's weird combination of exploration-stealth-combat-platforming-collectathon-minigames but doesn't do any of them particularly well. But it tries, damnit.

i think beyond good & evil doesn't let any one of its many elements overstay their welcome. with okami or w101, lots of segments just drag on and on.

I'm not wasting that much potential gift money on a Wii U. Could ask for a nice pair of headphones or jeans for that much.

Haw can this thread haver reached 20 pages already? Is there really that much to discuss about the subject? I mean, this is not even news. I wish this game was released already, mostly so all the bitching and whining could be contained to one OT with banhammer in full swing.

I feel like motherfuckers would be happier if this game didn't exist at all. I wonder if this is this games is the reason port begging gets you banned. Shit is ridiculous.

Wasn't this made clear the same day the game was announced?

I don't mean to sound like I have superiority complex or anything. But the fact that a lot of people fail to understand why Bayonetta 2 is a WiiU exclusive when the reason behind that has been said over and over again ever since the announcement does not make a good case for the average intelligence of gamers

I wonder how many more bags of money Nintendo had to give Platinum to make them say this
;3

None?

It's not like they where making the game for PS3/360 and then Nintendo came with a giant bag of money asking them to make it a WiiU exclusive.

"But if you were going to sell a game on a Nintendo platform, what publisher would you choose? Right, Nintendo. Right?“

Hahaha, wait.
Let all Wii and 3DS games published by Nintendo, and everything is done, done good.

Give me PS4 ports of Bayonetta, Vanquish, and MGSR. I'd love to replay those games in full HD.

As for the topic of B2. Eh. It's whatever. They've already made their decision.

Okami I can understand but not W101. Mind explaining it? I'm playing it now (almost done) and I haven't felt that sense of over design that I got with Okami.

the constant switching up of genres, the big, long story segments that only slow down gameplay. and each level felt like it overstayed its welcome by about 5 minutes.

the finale was really good, and the opening was strong. there's just this big mushy middle.

The switching up of genres is actually one of the high points for me. It's blown my mind away more than once. And I think the game could use more story since I find the whole universe so damn entertaining. It's felt like every level and boss had its own theme to it, so you're always pushing forward, the drama and action keep escalating, new ideas get thrown in out of nowhere, it's been a pretty fantastic ride.

I guess it's because I just really dig the combat. I'm always looking for the most efficient way to take down an enemy. I end up loving all the encounters thrown at me because its another opportunity to get better.

Honestly, why is this even up for debate? Bayonetta 2 is exclusive to Wii U, at least for a long time I am assuming. Financially it doesn't make much sense because it's an entirely new fanbase with a game that I don't think will appeal to the very finicky Nintendo contingent, but it's their decision. Nintendo is probably trying to bring diversity to their console most likely and decided to save the game before it was buried. I do understand not wanting to buy a $300 system for one game also, but things like this happen in this industry unfortunately.

You know, it's been a year and a half since Bayonetta 2 was announced for the Nintendo Wii U, and I'm still amazed that people have continued to bitch and moan about this.

Why?

For me, I'm glad that the game exists, and that's better than it not existing, which seems pretty simple to me. And while I can understand being upset that it's an exclusive, you should really focus your energy against SEGA for not supporting Platinum Games to fund a sequel, rather than at Nintendo, who have saw the potential that (apparently) no one else did.

Ive got a WiiU so ill be buying it.

The WiiU actually has a good library now and warrants a purchase for Nintendo fans.

I've never been a Nintendo person, but I am so grateful to whoever greenlit Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2. They had to know that those games weren't going to sell to wide audiences, but they went ahead and threw money at Platinum anyway, and I love them for it. W101 bombed harder than Little Boy and Fat Man, and I can only imagine Bayonetta will too, but those games exist, and I get to play them, and life is good.

It's definitely managed to get the core console gaming community talking (arguing) about it around the world.

It probably won't make too much financial sense. Deep down it's a single player hardcore action game which is expected to be fairly difficult and fairly technical.

Just like Bayonetta 1, Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, MGS Revengeance - these won't be picked up by the general mainstream and casual gamer. This is appealing to the hardcore action gaming crowd.

Its just Bayo as an IP is far less successful than games like DMC or Ninja Gaiden. At the very least, they should have ported Bayo1 to Wii U before releasing Bayo2 to try to get some hype going.

I dunno, they probably should have revived Shenmue. That would have been a better decision for them.

For me, the games do not exist without the players. I think, that's the lesson that Nintendo and Platinum will have to learn at the expense of Bayonetta IP

This was a dumb move by SEGA. Wii U is not the place for Bayo2

There's that on-going rumor they're reviving Seaman for 3DS, though.

Not sure if already posted but

For me, the games do not exist without the players.

Let's take a moment to ponder the philosophical implications of this sentence.

A new game has no players until people have played it, but for people to play it has to exist.

A paradox that cannot be explained; Videogames are miracles.

With his logical nearly 90% of video games do not exist.

But if a game which had players suddenly has no players it suddenly stops existing, which would mean that if any new player were to attempt to rediscover its magic it would be impossible since it was basically willed out of existence.

Basically, treasure your video games, for they are but a fleeting moment.

it's definitely a hard position to be in. their userbase is on the other systems and i'm not particularly confident that nintendo fans will even buy the game at all. still, keeps the developers in a job so that's good at least.

My friend, you have understood, but the lesson is not for you.

Doesn't matter. Nintendo know what kind of game Bayonetta 2 is and so will have their sales analysts prepare the sales forecasts accordingly.

The whole point is that Nintendo is allowing the game to exist in the first place.

Based on their latest forecasts for Wii U hardware, they probably expect it to sell millions.

Dumb move by Sega? lol

See, Platinum obviously hasn't repeated this message enough times. People are still getting it wrong.

Also, games exist without players. They're not fucking Tinkerbell in Peter Pan that need people to clap to keep them alive.

If Bayonetta flops in the forest, does it make a sound?

This could, quite possibly, be the strangest thing I've heard in this entire debate. I'm trying to figure out how this even works, and I've got nothing.

Also, games exist without players. They're not fucking Tinkerbell in Peter Pan that need people to clap to keep them alive.

Oh, okay, yeah, that sums it up pretty well.

Sega is still involved with Bayonetta 2, they did not sell the property to Nintendo but it seems they just licensed it out. They are also advising the game development.

Yeah.
The sales forecast for this game has to be low...lifetime of 250k at best?
I don't see how this game will reach 1M with Nintendo fans.
Heck, the Nintendo fans didn't even buy the new Mario. Like only 10% of the userbase bought it...such a low attach rate on the WiiU.

I feel bad for PG. Creating amazing games, but gamers won't buy them because it is on a wrong console. I don't know how PG is still alive, because this looks like another repeat of Wonderful in term of sales.
