Platinum explains why Bayonetta 2 is a Wii U exclusive

Yeah.
The sales forecast for this game has to be low...lifetime of 250k at best?
I don't see how this game will reach 1M with Nintendo fans.
Heck, the Nintendo fans didn't even buy the new Mario. Like only 10% of the userbase bought it...such a low attach rate on the WiiU.

I feel bad for PG. Creating amazing games, but gamers won't buy them because it is on a wrong console. I don't know how PG is still alive, because this looks like another repeat of Wonderful in term of sales.

Ok I am not sure but I think you are making this up.
Media create sales were terrible for the launch week yeah. But The overall picture is not the one you paint.

But, yeah, stick with your version, it is more dramatic.

Super Mario 3D World, as of end of December 2013 (so one and a half months), sold just under 2 million units on a console that has only sold around 5 and a half million. That's almost 40%. It's also bound to be much higher by the next fiscal report.

99% of Nintendo fans don't actually care about PG. Only reason why they care about Bayo2 is because it's a Wii U exclusive.

Initial numbers in week 1 in Japan were bad. I don't think most people ever updated their numbers.

People always seem to forget that Nintendo is a bit different to other publishers in this regard. Most other games are very front-loaded; big launch, and then minimal sales. Nintendo games, however, typically are not.

That a Mario game though, ofc Nintendo fans are going to eat it up.

So? 99% of the ones crying, only do it because it is exclusive on a Nintendo console.

20 pages in this thread and I still read Sega blaming for giving the game to Nintendo. How about blaming Sega for cancelling it? Or Sony and Microsoft blaming for not wanting it, because the first game sold bad on two consoles with a user base a magnitude larger than the Wii U?

Every time I poke my head in here I regret it.

these bayo threads are really the dark side of gaming. I know I shouldn't come here, but it is like looking at a dismembered corpse. You know it is bad and won't bring you anything good, but you can't retain yourself...

Indeed. I just don't get the hate towards Nintendo. Surely the hate should be directed at Microsoft and Sony for passing on it.

I guess it couldn't hurt to just put it on the new page. Because fuck, it seems like we still need it.

Not sure if already posted but

You missed the memo. Regarding 3D World only UK sales count. And even there only from one specific week where it was outsold by Knack.

"Waaah Wii U has no games, why would I ever buy one?"

*Wii U gets exclusive access to Bayonetta 2*

"Waaah, why the hell did Platinum make this Wii U exclusive, now I won't be able to play it because it's on Wii U"

It's so odd to me that no matter how many exclusives Nintendo get, there will always be people complaining about that fact, instead of doing the smart thing and purchasing the console where the exclusives they want live.

There's probably a lot of overlap with the "Nintendo should go 3rd party" crowd. People who refuse to buy a Nintendo console but desperately want Nintendo to go 3rd party so that they can play all their games.

3D world has a much higher attach rate than that. Also PG games generally don't sell too well on any consoles. The only exception I can think of is Metal Gear Rising (which had the metal gear name on it to help it sell) and maybe the original Bayonetta (and I say maybe because clearly Sega didn't care enough to fund the sequel themselves).

You shouldn't pull out statistics out of nowhere.

i really hope this is good exposure for bayonetta 2. in a way it's free advertising. bayonetta 1 was rad as fuck, but all my hyping and naming it e3 best of show couldn't really do anything for it. i know it's on what's pretty much a dead console, but i'm hoping the 200k that turned out for pikmin 3 in the us are the really hardcore wii u owners who will give this a shot.

along with yet more mini-gamey stuff like the NES Style things which again is not exactly mass market appeal

NES Remix1+2 is not really mini-gamey. It's NES games remixed which results in awesome gameplay. It's for people, who loved playing those games on NES back then. I would consider it to be "core", but yes exactly because of that it doesn't really have mass market appeal. I personally consider this to be a good thing. The typical mini-game collection does have mass market appeal. The typical mass market consumer would say "well, graphics look shit, why should I play that crap, when I can play the awesome looking Knack on PS4" and be done with it.

Well I'm getting one for me, and one as a gift. Just like I did for the first one.

Realistically, I'm not very optimistic about sales though, especially with W101 numbers. We'll see. I think Bayonetta 2 looks a lot better than W101 personally.

Reviews won't hurt either if this thing is scoring very highly. The best chance of this thing succeeding is in Japan.

i think w101 was always especially unappealing. like, it's hard to grasp just what it is without playing it (colorful, tongue-in-cheek japanese superhero galaxy police 3d beat-em-up). you can understand bloody over-the-top action game because we've already seen that sort of thing kind of a lot.

edit: on the nes remix side conversation- the first one is pretty rad at least

"It may not be the game that Wii U desperately needs right now, but Bayonetta 2 is still one of the most interesting and fresh gaming experiences you'll enjoy this Summer." 80/100

One of the best action games ever made. Doesn't use the gamepad in unique ways. 70/100

From my perspective I don't see this correlation. I would like to think that there is a huge overlap between those who are into Bayonetta & Vanquish and those who like Pikmin & Smash Bros. The two types both share the same core Japanese game design principles.

I'm a Nintendo fan who owned a PS3 since early gen but took the bullet and purchased a 360 solely because Bayonetta runs better on it. But maybe I'm in the 1%

So what happens if Bayonetta 2 sells poorly because the Wii U is third in the console war? Who are they going to blame?

they won't have to blame anyone because they game is already fuckin paid for.
again, the game's developments is already PAID for.
the only ones who could potentially lose money here is nintendo. not platinum.

and seeing as everyone here are too hardcore and mature to care what the fuck happens to nintendo, what are all the girly-man babies bitching about?

Looking at numbers, I'd say 99% of gamers don't care about PG anyway.
Heck their most successful game was basically a licensed game, think about that for a minute.

We should be thankful to Nintendo for keeping Bayonetta alive. They even funded Wondeful 101 which is a, um, wonderful game!

If only Nintendo bought Valkyria Chronicles... :(

The most depressing thing in this thread is that many people still say that the WiiU has no other good games.
reality clap: It has MANY great games already with more coming

If all the people complaining in this thread (and their friends) would buy a copy of the game (even without buying the console) there would be a chance for Bayo 3 to exist.

I bet Aliens CM, as shitty as it was, sold more than VC1-2. :-/
Please, don't say that! Even though it may be true:(

And I guess VC will never be on Steam or the 3DS since I just read that Sony has a lot of say on that series.

On Wii U, since Nintendo owns a piece of Bayo now, right?

I'm not trying to sound like a Negative Nancy here, but I'm actually expecting scores within this range. Often games on Nintendo platforms score lower and are more heavily scrutinized it seems, apart from the big hitters such as Mario and Zelda games perhaps.

As for Bayonetta 2: I am glad that it is being made with the help of Nintendo, but for me this game would be far more highly anticipated and appreciated if Nintendo would finance the first game being released on Wii U as well.

I always hate it when game series jump ship between platforms and I never really feel the urge to buy a second or third game in a series on a new platform, especially if I didn't have a chance to play the original. There is just something inherently satisfying to a series being complete on a single platform, and in this case the world could use a new version of Bayonetta 1 I think.

Sorry if this all sounds a bit like I'm port begging; I just wish both Bayonetta games would find a new audience on Wii U and having them both on there might help in getting more attention to this series as well as the Wii U (hopefully).
