I don''t see why it being a no-shit revelation makes it irrelevant though.

PS3 buyers are subjected to a greater degree of anal rapage than 360 buyers. Just because it's expected and normal for the market place doesn't mean they shouldn't be annoyed about it.

Sure they should be annoyed about it. But they shouldn't be any more annoyed about it than they were at Microsoft or at Nintendo for the same problem at the same rate. Singling Sony out for this is unreasonable when everyone else is doing exactly the same. And the tendency to calculate the numbers while surreptitiously ignoring tax doesn't help.

Great news for the date. Bad, BAD news for the price. I have not money enough for the PS3. I'll wait wait until White Knights or Afrika are out, hoping that that the price will be under 400 Euro.

Under 400€ for the 60GB model ? I hope you're patient. Hell, even 400€ for the 50GB will require a lot of patience, in my opinion.

Anyway, at least they're not delaying the release till june or something, I guess we are "lucky".

I accept your point that all three companies are following the same pricing convention. I'm just saying that that pricing convention does matter more as the item gets more expensive because of ever greater absolute price difference. So a greater number of complaints is natural.

in France, it was 450E 5(tax included) without MC (490E with) compared to 599E (Tax included) now

Ps3 is cheap ...

Not relevant at all. The ratios between the prices now is the same in the UK and the US. In both cases the 360 is old and the PS3 is new.

Well, of course in the UK there could be a price drop by MS before the PS3 comes out. £50 on march 9th say would certainly put a damper on things

EDIT: anyway, I think 399 is the magic price point, and certainly what Sony will go into christmas with, even if the early adopters get stung for 25 quid extra

Price is what I expected. Launch-wise, I'm just happy there was no truth to the rumors suggesting a delay until september (like what to PSP).

I'm interested to know how big the initial shipment of PS3's is gonna be. Personally, I'm expecting shortages at least in the same amount as when the Wii launched in Europe.

I'm hoping for a nice pack-in Blu-ray movie, like Casino Royale.

List of launchgames should be quite big, and pretty good too quality-wise.

PS3 to Launch in UK on 23rd March 2007
Over 30 Titles for Launch Period
1 Million units forecast for Initial European Launch Period

London, 24 January 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today announced that PLAYSTATION®3 will be launched in the PAL territories including the United Kingdom on 23rd March 2007 at a price of £425.

Responding to retail and consumer demand, SCEE confirmed that initially only the 60GB model would be available, with the 20GB model to follow later in the year dependent on demand.

An expected one million PS3 units will be made available during the initial launch period to all SCEE territories.

SCEE also announced a stellar launch line-up of over 30 game titles for PS3, including eagerly awaited titles published by SCEE such as Resistance: Fall of Man™, MotorStorm™, Genji™: Days of the Blade, FORMULA ONE CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION and Ridge Racer™ 7. An exceptional range of titles in every genre will also be available at launch from the world’s leading third party publishers, including Electronic Arts, Activision, Namco Bandai, Sega, Take 2, Ubisoft, Vivendi Universal, and Sony Online Entertainment.

In addition to games on disc, an exciting range of fully-featured downloadable games
will debut on the PLAYSTATION®Network. These will include gaming icons such as Tekken®: Dark Resurrection and Gran Turismo® HD Concept; the fully-featured PS3 debut of the best-selling franchise Gran Turismo, realised with full HD (1080p) visual quality. Created by Polyphony Digital Inc and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, Gran Turismo® HD Concept has been downloaded by more than 350,000 users since it was released in December 2006 in North America and Japan.

Also available on the PLAYSTATION®Network will be brainteasers such as Go! Sudoku and Go! Puzzle, and innovative games such as Blast Factor™ and flOw™, designed exclusively for PLAYSTATION 3 and delivering on the promise to provide original content created by non-traditional developers and publishers.

Concurrent with the European launch, a new System Update to further enhance the entertainment potential of PS3 will be issued.

Announcing the launch details, Ray Maguire, SVP and MD of SCEUK said, “Following the hugely successful launches of PS3 in Japan and North America, we are absolutely delighted to be able to bring significant numbers of PS3 to the UK. To be able to launch with over 30 titles including retail versions and great downloadable gaming experiences across every genre shows that this is our strongest launch line-up in the history of PlayStation, and is what PlayStation fans in the UK have been crying out for.”

Here in Portugal, the Wii isn't even being pushed by the retailers or even the local distributor. You can't find demo stations for the Wii almost anywhere.

Here's a pic of the Wii section in one of the major stores (FNAC):

Major outlets in Portugal don't care much for security, do they? :lol

Guess this confirms an English version of Enchant Arms and Tekken DR will at least be out by the end of March.

What exactly is a "launch period"? They sure would have said launch if it just means launch, wouldn't they?

Wow, Six Axis 35 Pounds, that probably means 50€ for the € countries. Perhaps even 55...

Thats a really crowded launch title list...

I want to see accesories prices in EUROS please, although they seem to be a ripoff! ><

I wonder what are the games prices...and no pricedrop or movie bundle is kind of dissapointing to me.

1m sounds enough although I can't see NA+JP being 5m to match Sony's 6m promise.

And in addition to the amount of consoles shipped, titles and peripherals - some awesome system updates. V1.50 and the soon to be released V2.0, including multi-tasking among other things. Now this is a launch. Though I never would have said it in November, I would have gladly waited for this. What a solid start. Perhaps they needed guinea pigs first though.

Wait, so Europe isn't getting any kind of Blu-ray pack-in? Boo!

Maybe the announcement will come closer to launch.

MotorStorm will be mine on day one. :D But no mention of the PlayStation Cards is a little bummer. Also, no GT HD Concept at Launch. :(

But besides of that I'm very happy with this announcement. :)

That seriously is the best launch line up ever. I think choice is good and all but has Sony though that maybe they are overcrowding the market?

Microsoft can't do anything about the PS3 launch, they have to sit back and ride the waves. A price drop will just mean them losing more money on consoles, you do realise this is the most anticipated console ever in Britain.

The stories the press have been building are just to hype it up, when it comes out with Motorstorm, Resistance, Oblivion as new games and Formula 1, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Tennis, Tekken and Ridge Racer as old stables that have a following (everyone I know has got at least one of those 5 games) everyone will be clambering for one.

People went mad over here at the PS2 launch and it did not have the quality of this.
