Another idea: Maximillian from Dark Cloud 2

Attacks:

-Golf club
-Wrench
-Giant Robot Vehicle
-Camera snap that gives you someone else's powers for a time
-Manipulating the environment in some way

exactly.

I like Souls as much as the next guy, but there are no characters known enough to put in a project like this. I could imagine the hub being a background stage, but that's about it.
Isn't the knight on the cover supposed to be Ostrava?

If they did pick someone from Demon's Souls, either Yurt or Maiden in Black would probably be the most iconic characters to choose. Although even then I'm not really sure what kind of move set you could give the Maiden.

I would be happy enough if we could just get a Demon's Souls themed stage and an excuse to include some of the great music from that game.

But even moving away from the technical side of things, Battle Royale is simply a blast to play, and entirely accessible. Whether you're doing long chain combos with Kratos, raining lead down on your foes with Sweet Tooth's level 3, or butt stomping fools with Fat Princess, the game is instantly entertaining. It's having a hydra from God of War wreaking havoc while you do battle in Metropolis, or needing to answer Buzz! trivia questions in the middle of a match on the ever shifting Little Big Planet Dreamscape. It's madness for sure, but controlled madness. The kind that makes enough sense that anyone can follow it, but is just crazy enough for 4 strangers sitting on a couch together to get hype about.

I think this looks like ass, honestly. It reminds me of that Heroes on the Move game only in a fighting game variant. I don't get the crossover game appeal at all. Pitting characters against each other from games that I like is just a boring concept to me. I've never been a fan of Smash Bros. either so maybe this scene just isn't for me.

That's fanboyish and you should consider what you are saying.
That's like being upset if Burger King copied a food product from McDonalds.

As far as the rest of the world is concerned? They REALLY don't care if there are competitor versions of a good product. In fact... we actually LIKE having competitors don't we?
Why is it fanboyish to point out something so obvious? I like Sony, I've owned every Sony console since the PSX, and I'm shocked at just how shameless this is. I was very interested in this game, but saying this is just inspired by a certain other franchise is a vast understatement.

That said, I hope they can pull it off that the game feels and plays differently enough, we'll see, but from these videos it really looks like an almost exact copy.

Lammy is definitely the better game than PaRappa. Both are incredible.

They sucked all the charm out of PaRappa's design in this game though. For that reason alone I hope Lammy isn't in. :(

Garl should be in the game.
And his Level 3 attack should be Astraea casting some AOE spell.

You hate the genre but came in here to post about your dislike of the game. Figures....

Maybe you should read the previews.

Good products getting similar competitive verions is not "shameless" in a free market.

Do you really want to live in a world where Apple is the only one allowed to make smart phones and tablets? Or worse yet... The CRAPPY smart phones who came out BEFORE Apple were the only ones allowed and the iPhone never existed due to fear of being shameless by moral watchdogs somewhere on the internet?

everything looks....underwhelming so far. not a big fan of the chaotic interactions when all 4 chars get on the same spot. The sizes of the character models all seem off for some reason.

the stages also seem a bit too packed. too much stuff going on at once and everything tends to mix in and hard to distinguish from what i saw in the video.

its still early of course, but so far the video has not made me expect anything grand.

Hope patapon is playable as well. But not the weird design where he has a mask and cape like in Patapon 3. The one from the original. Straight up eyeball with legs.

Or they could make him a group of patapons like they did with Capt Olimar and the pikmin in SSB.

Since the leaked source was pretty much right on everything I guess these characters are confirmed

Nathan Drake
Jak & Daxter
Nariko*base on old screenshot that looks like Nariko.
James Bond
Ratchet&Clank
Sackboy
I might be remembering incorrectly, but didn't the Paul Gale site say that James Bond wasn't actually confirmed, just that they were considering him.

I'm still kind of hoping that he isn't in at all. I would rather have them focus on Playstation characters or else third party characters that have strong ties to Playstation such as Crash and Spyro.

Yeah you are right.

The person that said this is Smash before Smash Wii U comes along in 2 - 3 years is the person I agree with. I have about as much connection to Sony's IPs as I do a rock in my backyard, and the premise seems far stupider and less appealing than Nintendo's offering (which works for the obvious reason), but I dunno. If it's packed with content and actually fun to play I'll probably get it. I really hope it has a cool single player campaign that plays on all the franchises. Nintendo fucked that up with the Smash series.
Why is the premise inherently "far stupider and less appealing than Nintendo's?" Simply because you never grew up with Playstation characters and don't care about them? Is it cool to just assume that since you don't have any attachment to these characters, then it's simply impossible that anybody could?

I was born in '92. I didn't grow up on NES/Sega, I grew up on PS1/N64 and PS2/Gamecube. To me, seeing Sly, Kratos, and Parappa battling it out is just as awesome as Link, Pikachu, and Samus. I probably have more hours played of Melee than any other game ever, and I've been wanting Sony to make a game like it for about 10 years.

Unless you're referring to the gameplay concept of the Supers and KOs being less interesting than Smash's ring out system, in which case I agree based on my initial impressions. I don't think that gameplay premise seems as fun as Smash to me, but I'm certainly very interested and eager to play it for myself.

I guess this build didn't include it, and I imagine it would take much longer.
I hope that's the case, because that would make it even better, imo, and much more interesting.

Plinko

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I'm not getting why people actually care that it's a blatant ripoff from Nintendo.

If the game is fun, who cares? I'm excited for it--it looks like it will be a blast to play.

I think SuperBot really needs to hunker down and listen to the fans while developing this game. How close they work with the community will dictate this game's final quality.

I think they nailed it so far, I would just like to see their color palette a little more vibrant.

Does GT have an exclusive on footage right now? I'd like to see some videos of actual, full matches instead of the random 5 second clips we have now. Surely someone at that event took some off screen footage... right?

Yorda would make a great character, I think. They'll need every female character they can find to avoid a massive sausage fest, and she could probably have some interesting magic based moves.

Exactly, hell I'm surprised it's taken this long for more games of the Smash style to be made, excluding Jump Superstars, Battle Stadium D.O.N., etc.

Some of the character suggestions in here are getting me even more hyped, I really can't wait to see what SuperBot & Sony put into this game.

Tottally agree with you on this. they should be asking us what do we want to see and suprise us and how it will work out not just throwing random together and hoping we will like it.

edit: they also need have characters or stages that appeal to people overseas

Since the game is quite a way along in development it would be amazing if we got a demo right after E3. Sony needs to promote this game heavily and early, what's better than an early demo? SEGA got the idea when people were sour on Sonic and they released a demo of Generations around E3, and of course a more polished bigger demo near launch.

They can pull the demo from the store so not to over-expose but an early demo needs to happen.

There's been plenty of games made in the vein of SSB and they all weren't that great.

I think that If K.O's are going to be entirely based upon super their should be some way that you can defend against supers as well by using your bar. For instance an evasive super move, so for example if Radec were to activate his level 3 where you can go into 1st person and shoot at the combatants you can activate Parappa's evasive move where he can go on his skateboard and be a harder target to hit or Fat Princess has her elf servants turn to duplicates of herself confusing the player of who the real Fat Princess is.

If not for this game maybe for the sequel

It's like the deal with exclusives games. When MS got FF13 it was a huge deal for a lot of people just because it wasn't exclusive anymore. Same with DMC4, AC and others.
Here... it's just Nintendo fanboys (sorry) attacking Sony because they tried to replicate their Smash Bros. formula with this game, and it won't be that special anymore.
