Playstation Headset Companion APP Update is now 2.0

The headset companion app is really convenient now, if you have the Gold or the Plat, you can easily load your game app wirelessly. It really quick process, the only thing I don't like they left the Pulse Elites out in the cold and you still have to have them wired to make changes. And, it comes with a new user interface that really easy to use as well.

The Plat preset is just like the Gold 1 slot only, but since you can change them so quick now, I'm not big mad anymore, I'm little mad.

PSA: Make sure you have your headset slot on #2 and make sure your "VSS" button is on on your headset, located on the top of the left ear piece, it is the surround sound button.

I've always the 1.6 and no new update.

2.0 update supports the new Plat Headset and the wireless feature for the sound app. No Man's Sky Sounds, The last Guardian, and MLB The Show I tried yesterday and they are epic. So quick to change now, still don't understand why these apps aren't available in the options of the game.

I saw this DLing yesterday. Is the main change that you can update the headset profiles wirelessly or is there anything else? I haven't used my Gold Headset since I beat The Last Guardian a few days back.

Oh shit!

Stopped using my Golds due to finding the profile updating process a bit too inconvenient, so this is very much appreciated

I'm looking forward to reviews of the Platinum headset. I'm tossing up those or the Sennheiser 598's (probably closed for the mic).

Wireless loading is awesome! I can't wait for the platinums to come out. I love my gold's, and 3D audio will be even better.

I have the Gold one and found that the sound was not too 'vibrant' and sometimes low volume. Does this app fixes these issues? I never knew about this app.

Anyone have platinum's yet? I got gold on Amazon, but didn't open em yet so I can possibly trade for credit at best buy to put towards platinum's. Need to know if they work on ps3 too.

How do I know which one's I have ?

I got a used pair of the Uncharted 4 edition headset from a friend, didn't have the box. They look like the Gold one's but different colored.

They are the golds. Just go by the shape if anything. Super obvious in the app which those are regardless of the paint job.

Hmm I may pick up some Platinum's down the road. That comparing different sound profiles is a really cool little feature.

Once you select a headset and try to add an app it will let you know if your headset is compatible. When did you buy them? The PS4 era are the Silver, Gold and Platinum. The PS3 Era are Pulse Elites but some apps work on the Pulse Elites.

What do these profiles do?
Are they some kind of equalizer settings or is the mix a different one with these?

Thanks. Currently at work but will definitely try this app when I'm home.

I actually got them from a friend, used and without a box. I think they're the Uncharted 4 edition, so probably PS4 based (?). I actually bought a Pro recently but I had them before that, they seemed to work A-OK with my PS3 too. They work equally well on the PS4. I've used them on my laptop too, work well enough there as well. Only issue i've seen is the mediocre battery life.

I thought these headsets might be 5.1 or 7.1, but Uncharted 4's in-game settings picked them up as 2.0 Stereo headphones. That's about the only game which has specifically told me some info about these headphones. On the PS3 and PS4 UI they come up as "Bluetooth headphones", no specific title or labeling.

Mine look exactly like this:

Oooo, TLG has a profile. Haven't started playing it yet, and knowing how good the other special profiles sound I'm really looking forward to it.

inside left ear piece on the frame it should say wireless headset if they are GOLDS. If you have a slot that says off, 1, 2 then you more than likely have GOLDS, you can only assign the app into slot 2 so slide the switch to slot 2.

Yep, mine as the off 1 and 2. I usually keep it on 1. Will try 2 with different app profiles, see if there's a notable difference.

TLG has amazing sound design in general so a good set of headphones or what not really help. There were some times where Trico would sneak up on me and scare the shit out of me by making a noise while towering over me.

Make sure you activate the "VSS" button on the headset the button is on the top left ear piece. It is the surround sound button. You will not notice a difference if that switch is off. Press and hold while you have the headset on and your PS4 is on it will show the surround sound icon when it is turned on.

Oh crap, how did I never notice that VSS button before ?

The speaker logo changed to a surround logo as soon as I pressed it with the PS4 on. Nice. Now to get a whole lot more usage out of this thing.

This is not true, sound profiles are still noticeably different even you only use it in Stereo. Personally, I think Stereo sounds much better than VSS. VSS sounds hollow, everything just sounds richer in Stereo. I recommend that everyone tries both and see which you prefer.

Wireless profile changing sounds awesome. I got tired of plugging in that embarrassingly short USB cable just to change the profile so I've just stuck with the Destiny profile. Also, the last profile I tried was for the Uncharted Collection, and that was awful, completely unbalanced soundscape.

Really confused why you make it sound like you need VSS on. That is purely a preference thing, and if we're getting technical 90% of most people rather it off.

Wireless sound profile change is new. That's cool I guess. Doesn't seem like a big deal for the most part. The damn battery life on the golds is garbage so I have them plugged in almost daily to charge. Never really bothered me to quickly plug the usb in to change profiles.

Wouldn't it be needed for the surround anyway ? Without it you're just getting a normal stereo solution.

Sounds superior to me, just because you don't think so doesn't make it so. I can tell the difference between the 2.

I never really understood what this app did :-/

Just adds game specific audio profiles tuned by the development teams for their new releases. Only a small handful of new AAA releases actually get profiles uploaded(often just from Sony/Ubi/WB), but that was really the only point. Play Uncharted 4/Last Guardian/Arkham Knight/etc. with the sound mixing for the headset professionally calibrated by the sound department. Switch 1 on the headsets(the power switch) always has a static "default" profile for audio that I assume is just generic-ass mid levels across the board. Switch 2 is reserved for whatever profile you upload from this app.

This new 2.0 version does add the option now for the player to calibrate their own profile now instead of just choosing from those available. You can adjust a few simple sliders like Bass/treble/balance to create a sound profile to use across all games if you want. But the wireless profile changing(without plugging them in through USB) is the real star of this 2.0 release.

If they sound better to you all the more power to you. If that's the case you could edit your post saying that, instead you make it sound like everyone should have it on.

Guys, I'm sorry but VSS is the sound equivalent of the "tru motion" setting on tv's. You know, the setting that makes everything seem like its on a higher framerate or you are watching a soap opera. There's a reason 90% of people swear by turning it off. It's useless crap. While it's a strange comparison I think it fits. VSS what the name implies, virtual surround sound. It's marketing gimmick of a sell point. You are losing bass and you are missing out on quite a bit of sounds/quality. I'm no audio expert or anything but when I purchased the gold headset I assumed I should always have it on. Did some research online and yeah, maybe if you have the headset you should look up exactly what it is instead of listening to me rambling about it. Come to your own conclusion after that. Again, there is a reason why 90% of people turn this feature off. Trust me.

On another note. You could always edit your own sound profile (adjusting bass, mids, and treble) that is not a new feature.

Always uses vss in mp shooters. Almost feels like cheating. I like that feature.

I see you did a survey and or research and found that 90% of the people who used the VSS feature is useless. When you can produce the 90% I will believe you.

Too bad there isn't a stability update to fix those hinges on the golds or pulse elites
Yes, I'm on my 3rd set because of the headband cracking. Looking forward to the metal headbands on the platinum headsets.
The build quality of the gold cans is terrible.

It was a number to prove my point. It's obviously just preference and my opinion but there's a certain cut off point where its not just opinion or something to believe me on. The VSS with the golds is just not as good as the stereo mode from them when it comes to bass and sound quality. Any audiophile will tell you that. The way the headphones attempt to simulate surround sound doesn't always work as good as it should. Sometimes it can lead to your volulme being drastically cut down and some sounds will be a bit 'tinny'.

Also "uselss crap" was more so referring to tru motion

I wouldn't completely agree with this. The vss implementation matters. Sony's proprietary solution seems worse than what most other headsets use (Dolby headphones) and some other solutions available.

If you have a good set of headphones I'd take the (neglible imo) hit in audio quality for the increased positional accuracy. Especially on nice set of open cans.
