Sony and Apple on the same day! Woo.
This doesn't compute... needing a bigger PSU for Polaris? Isn't that contradictory?
That's what's got everyone debating the specs and stuff. Besides there was rumours of a surprise under the hood or something. If using 14nm (probably not) the console would be smaller, produce less heat and use less power. I suppose it depends on what GPU they use but if it is 16nm or below it should be the same size console then OG PS4
Haha shit, you took that as hostile? Wow sorry. It was meant to be a joke
Please don't tell me they removed the Optical Out port just like the PS4 Slim.

Sounds like Sept. 7 may be a busy news day.

Foxconn artist latest update on our mockup.
1. button on the first layer, not second.
2. light bar(?) together with button
3. 2 USB, at layer 2
4. disc drive at layer 1
5. power plug (that hole) bigger than OG PS4
6. White logo
7. Weight 4500g

Don't apologise, it's my fault. I agree. They should definitely have a back USB port. It'd be vital in trying to hide the PSVR equipment.Sorry. Misinterpreted.
I just think it would be a dumb design decision to not include one rear USB for PSVR, that's all. I'll be leaving it permanently connected and it would look better connected at the back.
To give an idea how big the difference is (1.7KG) is that the fat PS3 was 5KG and the PS3 slim 3.2KG (1.8KG difference) and that was a substantial size and parts difference.
The only things that would need beefing up (weight wise) for Neo would be PSU, HSF and a bit more plastic. Doesn't add up to anywhere near 1.7KG, though...?
Must be some secrets in there.

Bigger PSU, possible metal case, larger HDD, larger heatsync to increase heat dissipation etc etc. All of these are possibilities. Most of them lead to the possibility of an increase in TDP though, which given the new machine is also made on a new node, might indicate a bigger boost in power than originally expected or a much cooler running machine. If Sony wants this to be a premium device starting with a 1TB HDD at $449 all of these are possibilities. To give an idea how big the difference is (1.7KG) is that the fat PS3 was 5KG and the PS3 slim 3.2KG (1.8KG difference) and that was a substantial size and parts difference.

Leaker needs to let us know if there is any dedicated PSVR tech so we don't need the breakout box.

that would be a dumb idea. would they sell box-less VR bundles?
2 possibilities.I don't see why NEO would be notably bigger than the PS4 with an APU more efficient than PS4's was at launch, especially at 16nm
I dont know about reveal but more definitive specs and vision?scorpio surprise reveal confirmed
Nah. They will sell the PSVR hardware with the breakout box. It just means we would have less of a mess to hook it up to a Neo.
I would love that.
2 possibilities.
1) GPU and CPU are upclocked over the leaked ones, requiring more power and a better cooling solution, hence a bigger shell.
2) Sony heard all the complaints about the "jet engine" ps4s, and designed the console to run quieter even at peak operation, which led to the shell/console being bigger.
it would have to have multiple HDMI ports as well right? I don't see it happening
All Neos come with PSVR bundled in for a ridiculously cheap price and Gaf has meltdowns... or probably not.that would be a dumb idea. would they sell box-less VR bundles?

The Polaris chip in the neo can run at 6TF although is quite inefficient at such frequencies so is unlikely to do that in the Neo. A 5TF boost is not unrealistic though and the RAM and GPU bottlenecks that might make it seem less likely aren't really as major as stated. It's a toss at the moment I reckon while the later is a strong possibility as well.I also don't think they will be pushing the GPU too far either because of the bandwidth limitations in place for the RAM.
I don't think Sony will be trying to go too far beyond 150w at most for the NEO, because it goes into system instability territory quickly after that. Regardless of how premium the unit is supposed to be, its still just an overclocked PS4 with a new GPU.

Forward compatibility should be a huge talking point during the meeting. Microsoft made it clear with Scorpio that all of the work they put into the Xbox One will not go to waste. Sony need to make it clear that all of the work that they've put into the current PlayStation will be their foundation for the future. No more cutoffs.

all Microsoft made clear was that games will work on Scorpio and Xbox One and no "exclusives". they haven't really elaborated on anything past scorpio yet.
Sony will clarify the exact same thing with Neo and OG PS4. they won't talk about future consoles
Nah, what I want them to talk about is that the Neo is just an extension of the PS4, and that from this point onwards there will be ongoing backwards compatibility in every console. That's it. The work done for the ps4 doesn't "go to waste" this way either.Forward compatibility should be a huge talking point during the meeting. It's not going to be blue.
That actually looks alright. I especially like the blue logo.
