Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

Ugh, this shit seriously is sold out everywhere.

Not only that, Futureshop and Bestbuy online stock checkers are lying. They say they have stock when they don't.

Has anyone already tried John Daily's Golf demo? How is the Move implementation?

I sucked at it and even missed the ball once.

The commentary said near the end "I don't mean to laugh, but you have to feel for him."

So I guess the Move implementation is good :lol

That was actually the first time I played a Golf game like that, also the first time I had fun with one.

dofry, could you please try resetting your Move and tell me if you still experience drifting in TC4/Razing Storm please?

To reset simply push the little button in the hole near one of the screws at the bottom of the device.

Actually, before doing this, try this:

Start either TC4 or Razing Storm.
Upon calibrating don't exit but point the Move at the middle of the screen as firmly as possible and then hold the Move button down. Does the cursor start drifting as you hold the Move button down? If so, reset the controller as I said and repeat the test.

Thanks

Actually, my nearest GameStop and Target are sold out of standalone Move again.

Did not reset and pressed the Move button. The reticule immediately started drifting to the left.
Recalibrated in XMB, same drift to the left.
Reset the controller from the small pinhole and voila, no drift anymore.
So thanks for pointing out the strange problem I had. Maybe others have it too and need to do the same thing. (Add that to OP)

Great :D

Thanks a lot man. I was having that problem with my "main" Move (I was investigating the drifting issues you had been talking about) and it was driving me crazy that Deadstorm was working fine and not TC4/RS.

Will definitely point this out in my video.

Oddly enough, before resetting my controller I tried The Shoot and I didn't have any issue there.

No problem. It's only 2 o'clock, so I have time. ;) Well ,turned out there was some drift in Pirates, but not that much. See post #5136 :D
I did immediately break my RS Stage 1 records because I couldn't stop at just recalibrating the damn thing. Damn game addiction.

The new movie app/service MUBI supports Move as well. ^^ Though it works just like in the XMB so no pointer function (however, the sphere glows in green to match the MUBI logo)

People still believe those things? :lol

People had to learn the hard way during the first famous Circuit City sale that those things don't track properly.

I have a bit of a problem. Haven't played with my Move in a couple of weeks, come back to it now, and I seem to be encountering a number of terrible calibration issues that I wasn't having when I first got it.

Tried Archery in Sports Champions and it would start off OK, but I'd have to point really far off the mark to aim directly at the target. After a little while, it would just start spazzing out altogether. I couldn't even reach back and grab an arrow reliably.

Attempted several different lighting situations to no avail.

Tried Tumble to see if it was just the calibration with SC, but that presented similar problems. When I would move the controller straight up, the cursor instead pulled up and towards the right. When I tried to recalibrate straight-on, the pointer went a couple inches to the left. And, finally, when shaking the controller wildly, the pointer would be WAY of the mark.

I believe we've discussed that problem in this thread, but it could always be corrected by hitting circle to recalibrate. After shaking it in this manner, the pointer STAYS in that direction no matter how straight I point it at the camera while attempting to recalibrate again.

Any ideas on what might be causing this? Once again, it was not a problem when I first got it. And it's kind of weirding me out that maybe letting the controllers sit for a couple of weeks inadvertently did something. Or it could be the camera at fault, though I haven't messed with that, either.

anyone try Get Fit w/Mel B? thoughts?

I wish it was a game about "getting fit" with Mel B. I could find a few creative ways of losing weight and working my pelvic muscles, if you know what I mean...

I was very surprised when I came back home and saw my girlfriend using the move as a remote for her DVDs and Blurays. It actually works really well for that :lol

I wish it was more fitness and less cooking and life lessons. My wife wants a fitness game, and she looked at the ads for that and said no. She'd rather stick with Sports Champions for a little while longer.

Also, any good readups on Singstar Dance? She asked whether it has solid dancing, as that can substitute for a fitness game.

Hmm that was interesting ,most of this stuff could be optional letting players choose how they want to fight, without the issues that comes with them of course. The online could have separate modes for that as well.

My wife wants one, too. You and I may be the only two people on GAF bemoaning the lack of fitness games for Move. I was hoping the Ubi or EA games would use it, but no luck so far. Maybe the Zumba one won't suck.

I know there is that Mel B fitness game that came out this past week. Does EA Sports Active work with Move?

I will be picking up all three titles next week.

Hmmm. So... some of the game's biggest gripes are actually there on purpose.

Yes. Interesting.

Right. I guess people might want a first person brawler, and it can be done, its just too easy because of virtually no misses and it allows flailing? Sounds like something kids might enjoy, so maybe we will see something like that with a different theme.

Has anyone else had a problem with an excessive amount of sensor drift (is that the proper term???) in Tumble? From the moment I finish the initial calibration and the cursor pops up, it's already starting to wobble slightly and drift in a random direction while I keep the motion controller perfectly still. Sometimes to the right, sometimes down, there is no consistency in the actual direction of the drift but it literally starts from the moment the cursor appears.

This morning I tried resetting the Move controller with the little pinhole button on the bottom and then doing the calibration in the XMB menu. It did seem to help a little but there is still some wobble and drift.

It's not so bad that I can't play the game, but it definitely makes it harder to move blocks precisely when I'm constantly compensating for drift and wobble (it's like driving a car with really poor wheel alignment lol). No other game does this, just Tumble. The Shoot, Sports Champion, Time Crisis all seem to have to no sensor drift at all. Any ideas?

Have you tried running the calibration utility in the XMB settings menu? I was getting mad drift in the SC demo until I ran that.

Move Titles for next Tuesday

I am really excited for The Fight despite its shortcomings.

yeah I'm getting The Fight for myself and most likely Singstar Dance for the kick back spot at my cousin's

great job TTP, I love when Devs come out and are willing to respond... I didn't know The Fight was 60fps, even in split-screen and 3D.

to be honest I think just playing the mini games (punching bags and aiming punches) would be a good work out for a game that is $40. Playing Table Tennis in SC was a work out in itself, but it was with only one arm unfortunately.....so hopefully with this, you can get a good work out while having to be accurate with punches. and it maybe will teach some how to punch properly.

Well, i got my Move controller and the nunchuck today. The only thing i played thus far was eyepet with my son.

He loved it! A big smile on his 2,5 year old face is priceless. Flying and popping balloons is something he can do all day i think. I wasn't that impressed, but i was pleasently surprised by the shower and washing part. At that point it registrated what i did with the controller very well.

I downloaded a shitload of demos and will try them tonight.

I'm hoping sport games and shooters will work great (like the wii+ or better).
I'm also hoping for an awesome 1:1 boxing game one day.

Sounds like he's full of excuses to me. First person is definitely the wrong approach to this type of game but being transparent is not.

The problem seems to be that they started with graphics and 60FPS as their primary requirements instead of having a fun game first and then improving graphics. The fact that head tracking was tacked on at the end just proves they werent serious about it.

He mentioned that because of realism they couldnt do fixed length yet they have you using another move controller as a joystick.... Very realistic.

I hope someone makes a fun boxing game, this is the killer app. Come on EA throw some money into this. They can balance out fun and realism with fixed length.

It appears that The Fight and Singstar Dance are out today already in EU! I just tried Singstar Dance briefly, but I liked it (it's hard, but the feedback is good and immediate, and once you get into the 'groove' it's very satisfying) and my 2.5yo son started mimicking along with what I was doing pretty quickly, which was very cute.

So I played a fair bit of The Fight now, and so far I'm actually quite pleased with it. The camera is only an issue for me in so far as that it is sometimes hard to see if you are doing a good body shot, although your opponent and sound does give you good feedback on that. I don't know if I just lucked out on picking a good camera, but generally I don't have to see all that much to be able to visualise what's going on.

The replay of my first match (which has decent options like viewing from all angles, pausing forwarding, etc.) showed that my body shots were way too low. Also, since my 'wing-span' is almost 2 meters, for calibration I sort of have to lean back if I were to do it properly, but you can fake it a little. This is one of the first games that gives an estimate on your size though based on two calibration moves.

The head-tracking doesn't work for me, as more or less expected. I may try again during the day, but the developers themselves basically indicated that they couldn't really do it for this game, also because of if you defend properly, your head will be mostly hidden (though I think from there you can probably still guess where the head is, if you take it further).

The training room is satisfying for me - I understand what I need to do (on the heavy bag do one-two's, and occasionally hit the red circle area when it pops up), using the movement of the bag properly and not missing - once you start missing, you fail out. It's a good exercise also for improving your spatial awareness. Same goes for the speed training, which realistically requires you to maintain a rhythm that suits the way the ball bounces, and you have a meter that stays in the green as long as you manage to keep the ball going. There's no faking it here, and once you get the skill down (I got it down very quickly at a pretty high pace) it simply relies on you to get tired. And trust me, you do! I still feel my arms, I think I lasted almost 4 minutes, and that netted me 13 skill points I could use on my fighter.

The walking around using the Move as a kind of joystick while pressing the Action/Move button (which you can conveniently use either hand for) works good and I look forward to more games using this for free roaming while keeping full 1:1 control for both hands available.

I also went online and there was no-one to play with yet, which is not a big surprise I think. However, the game gives you an opponent that doesn't defend himself while you wait, which is incredibly satisfying for just experimenting with all sorts of bloody hits. I do think though that this game has some very good potential for online - we'll have to wait and see how it pans out.

While they say they sacrificed a transparent character for 60fps, I have to say that the game often doesn't feel like 60fps - I think there are some real slowdowns occasionally.

Finally, Trejo as your trainer/instructor is a nice touch. He does a decent job, much better than most nonsense in videogames, and its fun to see him talk about/hold Move controllers and diss the alternative control scheme where you use a sixaxis for the second hand.

The balance for the career mode is interesting, in that you have to fight to make money, and you need the money to do trainings that can net you skill-points to upgrade your character with. This balances the game, but whomever can do the training stuff better will faster upgrade their character, which is interesting.

So far, my impressions of this game are quite favorable. We'll have to wait and see how it lasts, but I'm thinking this game does deserve an OT.

just came back from Bestbuy and yeah it does support the Move and Nav controller... heck their gun bundle thing looks like the Move Assault Rifle accessory.

Cabela 2011 bundled with their own Rifle = $79.99

Cabela 2011 (just the game) = $39.99 (I already have a Move + DS3)

thank god for options and all these $39.99 games :D I'm about to head back there and get the game, but I just want to read more impressions about it as well as some video.

Great impressions Maastricht.

The fight is such a missed opportunity. It really could have been amazing. dont get me wrong I will still buy it for the workout but I am so disapointed.

I have a really bad feeling about sorcery now since SONY producers arent insterested in quality from these relatively new developement houses.

So I've decided to get this for my cousins on a trip to visit them.

What are the best games one could get for this thing and how easy is it to set up?

So far the only ones I see for the age group that looks good is Eyepet. Any other games out and will be out before December?

I'd say definitely Start the Party - it's a very good party game for kids, was a huge hit when I had kids over.

Also set up the Beat Sketchers demo for them or the full game when that's out (and tell them how to change the controller number to 7 if that issue pops up at startup - the demo is worth it though, kids love to draw onto the TV screen with themselves visible)

How old are these kids? Otherwise they may like Singstar Dance also.

Tell us how old these kids are ... I'm pretty sure that Start-the-Party should be a hit though!

Start the Party! only uses one Move controller for multiplayer up to 4 people. You only have to calibrate once each time you put the disc in by pointing it to the PS Eye and pressing Move. It's quite fun and at the end of the "Group Party" you see pictures taken during minigames. See TTP's video on it.

Shooters work just as well. Well, at least MAG works really well, I even prefer the Move because the square/circle/triangle/cross button are closer to the main move button that the dpad on the Wiimote. You don't need to fuck up your aim to access these buttons. And I feel like the pointer works better too (I have trouble adjusting to Goldeneye, but maybe it's just me). I can't wait to play Killzone 3 with Move. The only drawback compared to the wiimote are the lack of waggle on the navigation controller, and the calibration process (there is none on the Wii), but the calibration might be the reason I prefer the Move. Instead of a preset range of movement, I have one perfectly adapted to me.

I doubt that. You probably shouldn't expect any PS3 exclusive features in future CoD games as long as that MS deal is in place. And that would include Move support obviously.

I don't think I agree with you. I can totally see Move support for the PS3 version and Kinect for the 360 version.

Just went to Walmart and John Daly's Golf was only 30$ !!! I thought it was 40 but it is pretty damned fun for 30 bucks!:D

I'm sorry but Sony needs to have better representatives to you know...present their games...at least when it comes to physical type games..like The Fight.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rlhz6bjTI4A
:lol

they were just flailing away, the guy in the closer view...man I don't know what he was throwing, but they didn't look like punches to me.

they were better off just showing one person playing first....then slowly showing how accurate it can be by moving the arms and such....and going from there.

edit- and it was just so funny when both were trying to show the head tracking :lol would love to see a gif of that at 5:04

presentation wise, its not that abysmal score IGN gave it for sure. Man, the IGN scores were so "we're going to hate this". Neither the music or the presentation deserved low scores.

and they both headtracked alright in the video too. I didn't know there was 2P splitscreen.
