Snake Pass has a solid 60fps option on Pro, so I reqlly hope Playtonic manages to do it here.

The ToyBox demo just plain didn't play well on PS4.

The most interesting thing from that interview, IMO:

Playtonic has made a conscious effort to design supporting characters who could appear in their own games. Like the Mushroom Kingdom, which allows Yoshi, Wario and Princess Peach to star in their own spinoff titles, Yooka-Laylee is the starting canvas for weird and wonderful heroes (or, potentially, antiheroes) to emerge. Playtonic's goal is to become a two-game studio, developing projects in tandem.

Multiple games from Playtonic, the possibilities are endless. I'm holding out for a Diddy Kong Racing successor that brings back the single-player campaign and hub world that modern kart racers have left by the wayside.

Also, I've always found it interesting that they intend to use the cast of Yooka-Laylee in other spin-off games. It made sense in DKR since Banjo and Conker's games were already in development, but the supporting Y-L characters don't really seem to naturally lend themselves to a starring role. Maybe Dr. Puzz in some sort of puzzle-platformer based around wacky gadgets?

I could see lady Leapalot starring in a 2D platformer.

Everything we've seen so far has a definite Kazooie vibe. The worlds are larger than ever but the things you do in them are much more self-contained than Tooie's cross-world challenges and multi-part Jiggies.

Thats a relife, tooie was expansive to the point of exhaustion

As a fan of it myself, Banjo-Tooie is bit of an acquired taste.

The first game resonates with people far more because it's a very simple, easy to pick up and play kind of game. Tooie on the other hand is a lot more colossal and complicated and naturally it turns off a lot of people who were wanting an experience similar to Kazooie. Even Rare themselves touched upon this in their Making Of Banjo-Tooie video, noting how the game requires much more time and investment from the player.

Personally I love the game, I actually thought it was the better of the two when growing up, but I have come to understand why people don't like it as much as Kazooie or why they even downright hate it, but it's still one of my favorites. I do commend Rare for taking Tooie in a different direction and giving the game it's own sort of identity
that wasn't totally stupid/uncalled for like Nuts & Bolts
, rather than just simply being "Banjo-Kazooie again".

Tooie learned from DK64 but it didn't learn enough. It fell for the same "look at all these playable characters!" trap by having Banjo/Kazooie/Banjo & Kazooie/Mumbo/transformations that you had to constantly run to swap pads and whatnot to switch between, and instead of a massive amount of collectibles they went too far in the opposite direction by making collectibles too scarce with notes being limited to a few nests, Mumbo tokens being condensed into easy-to-find Glowbos, and Jiggies being harder to obtain.

I still think it's a great game though, I replayed it and Kazooie just last month in anticipation for Y-L. I actually enjoyed it a bit more than B-K this time around, I'd never finished Grunty Industries before and it ended up being one of my favorite Banjo worlds.

I've always preferred Tooie to Kazooie. I loved the way the levels connected to each other and the only one I think is too big is Terrydactyland. Oh and Isle o Hags is the greatest hub world in a video game.

Oh yeah, Grunty Industries and Witchyworld were my favorites. Really hyped for Yooka-Laylee, and Hat in Time too, if it ever comes out.

But quite frankly, Tooie's biggest sin isn't its complicated level design/mission structure or the Red/Blue/Green mini-games or whatever. No, it's this spawn of Hades right here.

Jesus christ. The first race with her in Glitter Gulch Mine is tolerable enough, but the second in Cloud Cuckooland is by far one of the most horrifically designed missions in any game that I can think of. All of a sudden Canary Mary has this ridiculous rubber band AI that forces you to jam on the button at a super specific pace.

I replayed BT last year on XBLA and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't win. So I just gave up, went on to Amazon and ordered a third party turbo controller for 360 and I then I was finally able to kick her ass.

FuSecHQl.jpg

Did it again to get the last Cheeto page. Holy shit, they wanted people to do this shit two times with a regular controller, especially when the second race looks even harder and longer? Fuck that.

The jiggy race in Cloud Cuckooland was easy, the cheato page was a test created in hell. I ended up giving myself a giant blister as a kid before I figured out the trick because of how much I had to mash the A button.

Yeah, Hat is still a ways off. It's currently set to release on Steam at some point between November 7th and December 7th as per its position on the Coming Soon list when ordered by date.

Have codes gone out to backers yet? Seems weird that we're so close to release and you can preorder but I still don't have a code so I can download the game to play as soon as it unlocks. Also sucks that if you preorder you get toybox on console but backers didn't get that.

I don't get the issues with Canary Mary, I beat her every time with some intense mashing sessions

I was good at it, I guess

I know some people will be disappointed to hear that I'm very relieved, thank you!!

Yeah, I backed the Hat kickstarter, but didn't back Yooka-Laylee because Hat kept taking so long and I had also backed the 3rd 7th Guest game that ended up being cancelled. So I became a little sour about kickstarters after that.

I regret paying for beta access, frankly. The public build (which is what beta backers have access to) hasn't been updated in a little over two years, won't be updated again until release, and there's very little content. Playtonic, on the other hand, was upfront about Yooka's pre-release access being in the form of the "toybox" mode.

From Playtonic's website:

Game codes for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC will be made available nearer the time of launch on April 11th, 2017. These will be made available through BackerKit.

It's the greatest sin amidst a wastebasket full of lesser sins I'd argue. But yea, that final race alone was straight garbage. I did manage to finish it on a standard controller and got all achievements, but I loathed it. After finishing both BK and Tooie to 100% years back, one game I would gladly play again, the other belongs in the same landfill that ET was buried in.

So I was reading the gamesTM article on Yooka-Laylee and Gavin Price says that "Vendi will be in every game we ever do, dispensing Play Tonic perks".

Where is the Switch release date? where is it? I need this game on a nintendo console :(

According to an interview with Gamereactor:

“It’s a bit too early to go into specifics with this version, but rest assured we’re working directly with Nintendo to get it out as soon as possible for our many fans and Kickstarter backers on that platform. We’re big Nintendo fans here, so it’s very exciting to be working on Nintendo Switch.”

Looks like something out of a bad 90s CGI cartoon. That's a terrible design.

I Love Banjo-Tooie. However this is the SINGLE thing I haven't been able to do AT ALL. I'm super poor at button mashing; heck, even the two races in GGM are hard enough for me. Now, imagine those two last races... Yeah. No.

Looking forward to YL though. I was once planning to buy on Wii U but noooooooope. PC it is then.

I want to support this game because of the stance they took on you-know-who but I won't be if it isn't 60fps on PS4 Pro. I expect at least that much from a game that was also on Wii U before getting cancelled and moved to Switch.

She looks absolutely terrifying but I think there's room to improve, much like Mumbo did between Kazooie and Tooie. Her concept art has a Brave Little Toaster vibe that they could try to evoke more in the 3D model.

Right there with you, Camjo. I think they could tweak Vendi a bit because as she is right now she reminds me a bit of Jay Jay the Jet Plane.

I seem to remember there is a trick to this that makes it easier? Like start out slower in the button mashing and near the end speed up, the reaction of Mary is relative somehow?

man the quality difference between the final model and the concept art is staggering.

Did they render her in the mid 90s and go "finally, it's time for her world debut"? It seriously looks like a mid-90s Rare reject.
