Maybe Obama was a fluke?

Maybe this has always been America and Obama just came at the right place at the right time

I feel so confused by my country right now. Did these people just hate McCain and Romney?

McCain and Romney weren't far right enough to excite them, and Obama was cool and likeable.

It actually makes a lot of sense. Nate Ash wasn't bullshitting when he said there was a lot of uncertainty. When you consider how predictions are made, there's nothing weird about this. A demographic which wasn't fortified in previous elections (and thus wasn't weighed as heavily) got fortified.

//=====================

By the way, I've just gone through a fifth of fortified mead, and my ability to type is declining rapidly. I'm not sure how much longer I'll remain semi-coherent. I'm already having to correct every other word after typing it. D:

So literally EVERYBODY was wrong.

Every single polling station.

This just makes no fucking sense whatsoever. All the data...all the scandals....all 3 debates... the utter lack of ground game....

This. Makes. No. Sense.

Do you guys think house and senate republicans will actually go for all the crazy shit Trump wants to do (mass deportations, the wall, killing all the trade deals, nato, etc...)?

It's sad to say but the only thing standing in the way of Trump's KGBness are the NeoCons and the RINOs who are staunchly anti Russia

who would have thunk that Marco Rubio, John McCain and Lindsay Graham would become to the ones that will have to lean to to keep Trump in check from his Putin links

I guess we're going to test the theory that a Trump presidency will create a backlash so intense that the Democrats take over for decades.

I'm skeptical of that, but it's my best hope at this point.

Honestly it doesn't matter if they don't. All the crazy fuckery they want to get up to (gutting LGBTQ rights, horrific budget plans, slashes to social safety, voter suppression and gerrymandering) are enough to wipe out decades of progress

Jesus Christ I forgot even normal republicans have terrible ideas.

I bet they tell Trump they will build his wall if he doesn't veto the repeal of ACA and privatization of SS and Medicare and more shit like that.

To all minorities out there, as a straight white male, I'm so sorry for this.

I'm so, so sorry for this.
.

I just hope that either a) things aren't nearly as bad as I'm fearing, or b) the factors change so much that a democratic wave happens in 2018 that can mitigate the damage.

No, Republicans will likely put that stuff forward or something close to it to placate their now obvious base, but McConnell will do absolutely nothing to the filibuster. They will then blame those evil democrats for not allowing them to pass that legislation.

No.

But for me this wasn't about what will actually come to pass. It was about the kind of idealized future the people of America wanted.

They voted for this kind of shit... and even if they don't get it I will not forget this day and what it represents.

I mean the silent majority Trump turned out kind of did hate them. These people lost all faith in voting until their great savior appeared.

Hatred won. But we can't give up.

The world is headed down a dark path as nationalism comes to a head and we continue to ignore the implications of the rise of automation. But no matter what, we can't stop fighting.

These are the death throes of white nationalism clawing their way back into power. It's time for progressives to stop bickering, unite, and finish them off.

This is a great post.

I've been saying for awhile if there was ever a chance for white nationalists to have a say, this was going to be the last realistic year they could do it.

The way the demographics have been shifting, it's just not going to be feasible to continue that strategy much longer. It baffles me how Trump actually did better among minorities than Romney, but I think I will chalk that up to the candidate.

Time is literally on our side here. Our country grows more diverse every year and I think if we run a popular candidate we almost can't lose. I don't think this wave of urban white voters will stick around, or if they do, the inevitable increase in minority voters will counteract them.

It looks grim right now, but things always do after you lose an election. We will get through this shit just like we did with Bush.

Since they are talking about a larger share of the white vote that didn't show up for McCain and Romney, then it's likely that those candidates weren't racist enough.

President Obama came in and awoke the sleeping beast, and it wasn't Hispanics like we expected, but uneducated white people.

Yes. Fall in line or get replaced. The tea party has already done this.

I feel like every progressive/civil rights movement in America has been set back 50 years. It's going to take decades to come back from the bullshit the GOP is going to do to all of us.
Like Obama said, there's a straight line from Palin to him.

2010 was a really important election for the Republicans. It's finally paying off for them. They played an excessively long game. Elections have consequences, and too many Dem leaning voters sat out in 2010 and 2014.

I really do think this is an opportunity for 2018 for Dems in Congress. People are going to feel like they got kicked in the face after they see how this man leads the free world.

Because the theory is bullshit to coddle white voters.
Y'know, you're right. It could be. If it is and it's all just xenophobia and racism with no real chance to sway them otherwise with hard left economic polices that can really promise them radical changes like Trump has promised with foreign relation and minority treatment what course of action does the left have?

Fight their evil ideologies with blood? I mean if it is just racism and xenophobia what other solution is there but the extermination of evil?

Doc Holliday

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
How the Fuck to do people like Gary Johnson and Jill stein sleep at night?

This is 2000 all over again

I'm in new york so things well be OK I hope. But all those poor people who actually voted for this assholes are in for a rude awakening.

And for my brown brothers and sisters in the South and midwest... I'm so sorry :/

Oh say goodbgw to Obamacare

How soon will Trump start to try to shut down the media? He's already said as president he would go after any media that talks bad about him.
