You're talking about the risk pool reimbursements, right? The whole point of killing Obamacare is to replace it with market-based, individual-targeting healthcare legislation with tort reform. I'm not saying that's better, but from their perspective, they're trying to save people from a bad law that won't work and usher in a better law, sooner. That's hardly evil.

Sure, it's just stupid. Partly because it relies on ignoring the evidence that the law is working, partly because it relies on ignoring the evidence that Congress isn't working, and partly because it relies on ignoring the overwhelming evidence that the GOP has no intention of actually passing any health care legislation. Hence their inability, in the six years since Obamacare, to actually write an alternative.

Like, I can accept that you can genuinely not know or understand any of that stuff, but it does represent a pretty bad place to start having an opinion about American healthcare.

Even if Republicans had an agreed "repeal and replace" plan between them, and I'm not sure they do, replacing the ACA with better legislation doesn't necessitate crippling it in the mean time.

Republicans have been disingenuous from the outset, and obviously seek to hamstring the law where they can allowing people to suffer in the mean time for "I told you so" ammunition. If they were genuine about wanting to get people better coverage and care then they could easily have taken the opportunity to fix the issues and ambiguities in the interim while working towards their intended larger scale reform.

It's blatantly obstructionist at the very least, certainly self serving, and rises to the label of evil given they are seemingly willing to let people suffer to pursue a political gain (or at least deny Democrats a win).

I have a lot of trouble understanding Republican policy anymore. It's just objectively wrong in most cases. I am losing my empathy and patience. If you don't want to participate in governing, why did you sign up for a job designing the government?

Some of my friends are white privileged liberals who are coming out as accelerationists.

They are publicly stating that they want the "country to burn" (Trump elected) when Bernie doesn't get the nom. That this will lead to something better if that happens (lol).

I live in a really liberal neighborhood, but it's still disconcerting how many of them there are. It's only the white people, though, of course.

Do they have the votes to repeal? Has a replacement passed either house of Congress or even gone up for a vote?

If you want to usher in a better law, there are ways to do that, which the GOP has been utterly unable to do. Lawsuits like this or King v Burwell are basically domestic terrorism.

Btw I'm not saying that people who think a more conservative healthcare system would be better are evil. Far from it. I've read some plans on Heritage Foundation or wherever that sounded decent, probably better than what we had pre-ACA.

Found out I don't have to do jury duty. The voicemail after 6PM said that if my pool number wasn't stated, my obligation is fulfilled. I am both bummed and elated. Bummed because I really want to do my civic duty and experience jury duty. Elated because I have so much shit going on at work right now, including a super critical point in the design process for a project, that to be stuck in jury duty would have been potentially fatal.

The guiding tenet of the GOP since Reagan has been that if you want something not done, you need to not do it yourself.

I'm not saying that every GOP voter believes that we should destroy government, but certainly the "GOP establishment" as of 1980 pushed that policy as part of their service to corporations and the rich.

In fact, as with everything else going on this year, a big part of the GOP's decline is that they started replacing people who claimed they wanted to destroy government as cover for their secret desire to get power and cut their own taxes with people who had been listening to the party line for the last twenty years and genuinely want to destroy government. This turns out to be a big problem for basically everybody.

This definitely seems to have been the driving force under Jindal in Louisiana and Brownback in Kansas.

Looking at his timeline, it seems like that excuse is exactly the "dog whistle" Ben Rhodes is finally seeing.

Overall it's more of an airhorn than a dog whistle at this point, but I can understand if conservatives aren't used to seeing the error in "it's not racist because" arguments.

I was seeing a guy who was a Bernie supporter. We've been dating for a few months. We broke up tonight. I jokingly referred to him as my Berniebro.
Oh, I see. Don't know any details (was expecting something completely different), but I wish you the best.

See I don't know, I want Perez to be President someday to be honest. He's progressive, he has a radical touch to him while still being pragmatic, he's charismatic, and he seems to reflect the diversity of modern American society. He should be the direction the Democratic party is going in, Hillary seems like the Dems are going backwards because it's her turn tbh

Gotcha. You sound like you may be underselling Hillary's progressivism, I know she hasn't always been on the progressive side of issues from the get go, but right now from a policy standpoint she's as far left as Obama so it wouldn't be a big downgrade IMO. She's not as good of a speaker, but still smart

Also, women's issues are far from solved and she'll definitely be fighting for them.

I had never experienced pure visceral anti semitism until last week.

As a Jew I was lucky that that shit was hidden. But last week a dude, to my face, ranted about my how Jews were "ants" (actual quote) how we were controling the media, how we were subjugating white people, etc...

I've been Jewish my entire life. I had never experienced that until last week...

Thanks trump!

Sorry to hear that man. I forget about anti-Semitism because of how ridiculous it is, but it's definitely real and not OK.

In case anyone cares or is keeping track, the age of the Berniebro is over. Shills for Hill and Berniebros were never meant to be together. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Aw, hope things are otherwise OK for you.

Popping in to say that I've been laughing hysterically at this tweet for a few minutes... not sure why, maybe I was just caught off guard, but the "Run Bernie, run" is just so damn good.

Bernie Sanders is being treated very badly by the Dems. The system is rigged against him. He should run as an independent! Run Bernie, run.

Very subtle, Don!

I am not surprised breitbart wrote that awful piece on bill kristol.I am interested in seeing their reaction when Hilary beats Trump in the GE especially if she crushes him since they seem to be supporting the guy a lot lately

Fox News was hilarious last night with their "Political Insiders" saying the democrats are in a mess (based on what happened in Nevada) and it's the Republicans who have this locked.

Need to get me a job as a pundit, easy money and no knowledge required.

Come on guys, have you kept up with Sanders? Come DNC time, if state battles are anything to go by and Sanders delegate gofundmes continue, wether or not he or Clinton wins, there's gonna be discussion and debate.

I would not be surprised if it ends up being Clinton vs Trump, I really wouldn't, but Clinton's definitely not a done deal; it's plenty clear that sanders, people at state conventions, and delegates will not act like it is over until it is actually over.

This?

Yeah, kinda embarrassing. That being said, not all Sanders voters would vote for Clinton if he loses, but some say the opposite is not true, that Clinton voters might be open-minded enough to vote for Sanders in a general... so would Sanders voters and Independents (like me). but then again, polls, and surveys and shit and variances and whatnot...

We will see. We will see...

I am just tired of people counting Sanders out. If you are gonna count anyone out, count Ted Cruz out.

At least Cruz truly never had a chance.

Truth be told though, part of me kinda wishes he became the GOP pick, if only test, confirm, or define USA presidential eligibility laws. The truth is that due to the way it is a written, a lot of people, myself included, absolutely believe that his Canadian birth made him completely ineligible. But him winning would have caused either a legal investigation, or laws to have been made more clear despite outcome of said legal investigation or decision.

In that regard, seems like a missed opportunity for our nation.

It really is interesting to listen to Fox News contort themselves to be as anti-Hillary as possible, even if it means being supportive to Sanders.

Because Clinton's a democrat and Sanders is unapologetically a DINO, of course Fox News would go against her first. They hate the donkey more than socialism.

Do you honestly believe this crap?

It's not crap, it makes completely sense to me at least. I watch Fox News semi-regularly since it is on all the time when I go to the local sandwich place and write every week or other week. How much Fox News do you watch? I think it's shit mind you, but I know why it is shit, and I know because I've seen shit.

So I don't believe "that crap" because it's not crap, it's shit. Of course I believe in the shit, it's real.

It makes perfect sense... it just sounds really off when you type it out.

I wonder if Cory Booker will be the pic. Demographically helpful (youth + minority), but would be replaced by an R. Better than Warren? Not sure. Doesn't help with state results.

I watch it all the time and it's obvious what they are doing. They parrot the same lines of Bernie being treated unfairly and maybe he is running third party and dems in disarray to try to play election chess. Notice they are the only news organization still mentioning Bernie on a regular basis? That's not because they find him more agreeable or hate Hillary more, it's because they would rather face him in the general because they can scream socialist non-stop or better yet have him run third party.

If there is any plan to use the pick as outreach to Sanders voters, not sure Booker would be that.

May as well tape wall street over their campaign signs

Who's pushing this Gingrich VP stuff? That makes absolutely zero sense
Consider it from the Trump perspective. Gingrich represents the last time republicans changed Washington effectively, has a history of fighting the Clintons, is a very good speaker (and thus good on television), and would be a "conciliatory" choice for elected republicans: the establishment hates him but not as much as they'd hate a Palin or insane former general.

People outside of the Trump camp know it's a terrible choice, of course. Especially for a ticket struggling with the female vote. But I can see how Trump would justify it. And Gingrich has been making positive comments about Trump for quite some time. Gingrich is smart and recognizes being Trump's VP would make him president in some ways.
