Good God. Make a thread about it. Bill Maher needs to go away.

I'm not deluded enough to think that having a little GAF meltdown over it is "activism", so like I said, if it gains traction and turns into something else, then maybe, otherwise someone else can use it for affirmation. I just brought it up here because it's interesting and politics-related.

edit: nevermind, someone made it and it's just people going "fuku bill maher", good for them.

He wants to kidnap Enes Kanter (NBA player) and that would likely lead to Kanter's death.

He's kidnapped Kanter's father to try to lure him back to Turkey.
Ok, that actually makes me angry.

When do we cease being allied with Turkey? When they start gassing Kurds and Jews? Or when atheists and Christians are hung in the streets? Turkey was a great buffer against Russia but we can do without them, I don't fucking care anymore.

So Bill Maher just had his introductory interview with renowned douchebag Ben Sasse to bond over their shared hatred of millenials when, for some reason, Ben Sasse offered to Bill Maher the opportunity to visit Nebraska and "work in the fields with us", to which Bill Maher paused and replied "Work in the fields...? Senator... I'm a house n*****."

Was gonna make a thread about it but not really worth it unless it actually blows up into a story. Hard to tell if the left or the right will chase it harder at this point.

I can hear his defense now. "I said it with an 'A' at the end, get over it you crybabies."

That said what is wrong with this dude? Is he just out of ideas? No clue how to stay relevant?

I already see a graveyard thread in the making.

Really worried something bad is going to happen in Washington tomorrow.

Re: healthcare, really wonder what they are going to do about the subsidies. Insurers are already making it very clear if rates go up it's the govts fault.

You just gotta ally til the deed's done, you ain't gotta kiss them.

Oh, but Turkey is going to be such a hellhole in a few years of this.

Explains the Romania incident too.

He's a piece of shit

He's always been a piece of shit

And he feels that as long as Trump's in the White House he has leeway to stop pretending to not be a piece of shit.

No, because of Trump, he and Greta have become Media's Moderate Darlings. Keep up.

His WaPo opinion piece today really grinds my gears, but you've reminded me I saw a lib friend posting something he wrote for MSNBC about how Trump is bad and now I gotta go back and find that post and set the record straight.

Edit: on a side note judging solely by the porn misspellings by state thread in OT Trump supporters are disproportionately into Hentai even if they can't spell it.

Speaking of maps!!!!!

I prefer cartograms that separate the east and west borders of Minnesota and Washington and just squish the barren lands of Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and the Dakotas only south. The west becomes a huge mess otherwise thanks to those empty states.

Also, that New Mexico/Arizona rural area largely made up of latinos and native americans seem like an interesting pocket of america that maybe should get more attention. It's like the only region in america where the democrat landmass outweighs the democrat population. What do they think about outside of immigration reform?

Alaska is the place we really win more land than people

Uranium mining.

I'm staying as far away from that Bill Maher thread as possible, but I'd bet many of those who are losing their shit once again at the most recent idiotic thing he said will be watching again next week. Like wrestling and Morning Joe, it feels like many hate-watch Maher and simply refuse to stop watching.

I think we should think about regime change in Turkey.

A dictator that is willing to attempt an assassination on a US public figure is a dictator dangerous to US interests.

We should have supported the military coup.

Assuming that was even real and not a false flag attack. Obama was dead wrong on his support of this psycho.

They actually shut down the uranium mines in New Mexico in 98 after it being the dominant industry in NM for a long while.

There's a fuckton of uranium there though.

New Mexico is just an airforce base these days. 25% of the jobs in New Mexico are federal government jobs.

New Mexico has every valuable natural resource in the world so it's kind of surprising that the state is not really talked about much in economic history.

That was arguably the start of "I'd have a beer with that guy" and "charisma charisma charisma!" Presidential voting era, unfortunately.

America’s Broken Democracy

US President Donald Trump’s ravings against the 2015 Paris climate agreement are partly a product of his ignorance and narcissism. Yet they represent something more. They are a reflection of the deep corruption of the US political system, which, according to one recent assessment, is no longer a “full democracy.” American politics has become a game of powerful corporate interests: tax cuts for the rich, deregulation for mega-polluters, and war and global warming for the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress are trying to rush through legislation that would deprive more than 20 million people of health care, in order to cut taxes for the richest Americans. Trump’s newly proposed budget would slash Medicaid (health insurance for the poor), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food for the poor), foreign assistance (aid for the world’s poorest), funding for the United Nations, and spending on science and technology. Trump would, in short, gut the federal programs for education, training, the environment, civilian science, diplomacy, housing, nutrition, and other urgent civilian priorities.

These are not the priorities shared by most Americans – not even close. A majority wants to tax the rich, maintain health coverage, stop America’s wars, and fight global warming. According to recent polling data, Americans overwhelmingly want to stay in the Paris Climate Agreement, which Trump has pledged to leave. Trump and his cronies are fighting public opinion, not representing it.

They are doing this for one reason, and one reason only: money. More precisely, Trump’s policies serve the corporate interests that pay the campaign bills and effectively run the US government. What Trump signifies is the culmination of a long-term process whereby powerful corporate lobbies have bought their way to power. Today, companies like ExxonMobil, Koch Industries, Continental Energy, and other mega-polluting companies no longer need to lobby; Trump has handed them the keys to the State Department, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Energy Department. They also hold senior congressional staff positions.

Much of the corporate money can be traced; the rest flows anonymously, as “dark money” that avoids public scrutiny. Supreme Court justices who themselves were frequently wined and dined by corporate donors gave the green light to keep these corrupt flows secret in their infamous Citizens United decision.

The rest of the world urgently needs to understand America for what it has now become. Behind the formal structures of a once-functioning democracy is a political system run by corporate interests with the cynical aims of cutting taxes on the rich, selling weapons, and polluting with impunity. In Trump, they have found a shameless frontman and TV personality who will do their bidding.

Liberals need to flood one of these Trump rallies or campaign events.

Like literally just boo the shit out him. Either he will completely lose it or stop talking and storm off.

I'm not too familiar with the guy, but I just read a sensible interview with Ben Shapiro here and was curious what some of you thought about him.
He's missing that the reason the right wing focuses on "racism racism racism" instead of the billion other things the Dems talk about is because they're the ones obsessed w/ white supremacy- it's core to the GOP.

Good thing you can do multiple things at once, and that caring about one thing doesn't stop you from being able to care about another...

I don't know who "you" is referring too, but it certainly isn't liberals. They proved this past election that they are wholly incapable of compartmentalizing political priorities.
