Project Setsuna (Square Enix/TRF) confirmed for PS4/Vita in Early 2016, oldstyle JRPG

After they told us during the E3 that the only thing they could tell us about Project Setsuna was that they couldn't tell us anything at all, this stealth announcement felt kind of weird.
They likely didn't had much to show at E3 except the concept art. The game looks like it is made by a small tiny on a short budget so the development isn't taking much time anyways.

At E3, they said we would heard more in autumn, which is obviously hinting TGS.

I think SE has finally found the engine to remake their SNES RPGs perfectly. I'll buy this as soon as it gets localized.

Hmm, it looks like even battle transition that Chrono Trigger had [where you touch an enemy on the field and it immediately transitions into battle] might have made its way in too. Just look at 0:12 ~ 0:16 in the trailer. The object to the north of the battle looks to be a treasure chest of some sort...

so is that second image the official title or is it the theme of the game or something?

"sacrifice, and the sadness of snow" ? seems depressing either way

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
From what I gathered from the story (Google translate):

It takes place in an island and in this island, sacrifices are done to suppress a demon. The following year they will sacrifice "Setsuna", an 18 year old girl who can cast powerful magic.

Not sure if this is right.

Oh, this is what I was talking about earlier in-regard to battle transitions being similar to Chrono Trigger.

As you all know, normally in RPG's when you hit an enemy encounter the screen transitions to a separate battle field where you fight. In Chrono Trigger, when you hit an enemy, instead of taking you to a separate screen you immediately started battle in your current location, leaving the details of the field on-screen. In the below screenshot from the Project Setsuna trailer, it looks like a treasure chest is still visible while fighting, which leads me to believe that same-field enemy battle transition from CT is also incorporated here.

If correct, premise has potential.

Liked what I saw. That studio is created to poop out these kind of titles every 1.5/ 2 years, so we shouldn't expect AAA super high production values. I am ok with that!

I still have the website opened so the piano theme will loop. I need more of this music. Any idea on who the composer is?

It's correct.

The ritual of sacrifice is to happen in a far away place (end of the earth), and the game seems to be about escorting the girl on that journey.

If this has the breadth of a Bravely Default, I will be happy. Music and gameplay i'm sure will be great and if the story is emotional that is a big plus.

I wanted a new Golden Sun from Nintendo but instead, Square gave me this for Vita. I never thought that I'd be saying this in year 2015, but: Thank you Square.

Spoiler
She's going to die in the end and tears will ensue.

Gave me Bravely Default vibes which is awesome. Loving the music and especially those pieces of artwork off of the site. Jesus, it's beautiful.

She'll die, but the demon won't be satisfied and decides to destroy humanity anyway.

The party who did the escorting soon realize their mistake, and build a time machine to go backwards in-time to rescue her before the sacrifice happens, as her magical power is needed to defeat the great evil. Along the way, every little change they incur will change the events of the past, present, and future, and the party will need to correct these time-line "fractures" lest the world be destroyed.

Honestly, if someone made a studio that cranked out games that only looked as good as late-period SNES titles, I would be totally okay with that. Forever.

Looks fantastic! I was waiting for Square to start making these kind of games. Seems so logical if you think about how much the classic Final Fantasies are still loved.
