PS3 v2.70 walkthrough up!

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD HOLY SHIT

Sony fixed the slow downloading speeds on the PS Store. I'm downloading Qore at 1MB a second, before I'd literally be lucky to get 250kbp/s. And I didn't even change any settings with my router.

Go to Downloads, hit triangle when you're selecting an item, and then it'll have something like 511MB/1300MB, and it goes up a megabyte a second for me. If you're downloading much slower, you can start a timer when it goes up a megabyte (eg from 511 to 512), and end it when it starts on a new megabyte (eg 513). If it takes 4 seconds to download a megabyte, you're downloading 250ish kilobytes a second.

But seriously, I'm stoked. I feel like a free man, actually being able to use the PS Store without having 2 hour downloads.

Just looked more into it. You can specify which background to display either randomly (which was how it was before) or using date/time. It can be a specific date (January 30th) or a range of days (January 1st-15th) or even the hours of the day (7am-10am).

I noticed that too, this FW update is awesome.
 
Download speeds have definitely increased, as well as trophy information loading. Nice! I added a few of ye's to my friends list to phatten 'er up a little :D

btw irc-psn 2.7 is an awesome feature

I finished 2.5 GB worth of downloads EXTREMELY quickly. I didn't time it, but it was very quick.

I was amazed. It's not usually this fast.

No they did not. Qore took about 2 hours to download and usually it goes much faster.

Well, they fixed something with the PS3 itself, then. Before the update, the PS3 on speedtest.net wouldn't report near as fast speeds as speedtest.net on my computer. Now they're the same. And like I said, I didn't change anything on my end that'd fix something like this.
 
It's pointless to bitch about a free update I suppose, I like some of the stuff they did and I'm happy where the service is going. It just seems to move in a snails pace.

The txt thing is pretty lame. Censor is nuts and character limit is annoying. I tried it out with some non-gaf friends and everyone was joking about 1995 tech which does seem out of place on such a machine. Oh well, hopefully better voice support will come before the gen ends.

Might be related... when I tried a couple of WMV links from the browser (Grametrailers.com) it gave me the same "unsupported" error, but it worked perfectly fine before the update.

Hmm that's interesting I wonder what happened.
 
Word around the campfire is that 2.70 claims that certain divx files are 'unsupported' when viewed from a DLNA server (MediaTomb, PS3MediaServer, whatever), but they work fine when you try to play them from the hard drive.. even if the same files did not work under 2.62.

edit* Its definitely the PS3 since I just tried my pc with Tversity and it comes up the same.
 
Also for some reason, youtube doesn't display properly for me anymore..... the layout for the user channels is all messed up.. the videos still work though...
 
I don't what the deal is, but my download speeds from the store are now insanely bad. They used to be quite good. I've been dowloading qore for 2 and a half hours and I'm at 37%

Sony is quite strict with censoring text. Warhawk, Killzone 2, etc. do it if they consider something profanity in the server or clan name. SingStar has a very long list of words it won't let people use on My SingStar online. Home is also a bit strict. That's just how Sony is.
 
I think this is just me but, with 2.6 if I fired up a game of Killzone 2 1.21 with 15 bots, it would take a while to load.

I could hear the blu-ray drive going crazy spinning a lot.

Post 2.7 the drive doesn't spin as crazy as it did with 2.6. And firing up a game with 15 veteran bots takes less than half the time now.

It was like that before the update. Maybe youtube changed something, suddenly things were messed up for me before this.

Has anyone else had problems with games freezing up when in a chat room?

It's happened to me at least twice now.

Games seem to get hung up on loading screens when I'm in one.

Well... they can stop eating "old food" like potatoes and steaks, and start eating only health bars and vitamin pills if they want. They all have their place.

Voice chat is great where text chat falls short. Text chat may be useful where voice chat is unsuitable.

PSN downloads have been known to wildly vary between people I don't think the update did squat for that but rather you just got lucky now.

I think some people don't know any other reaction anymore to PSN but cynicism. Some also have a such complex wrt Live comparisons, that if Sony brings something different to what Live has, it's almost immediately dismissed as a negative..regardless of whether it's actually any good or not in its own right. But I think all of that kind of attitude oversteps the bounds of credibility with this feature. This is a good feature, it works well (bar censorship), and for the first time brings that sense of being 'always connected' on PSN. I was a harsh harsh critic of Home on its arrival, and I'd tear them a new one on this too if I didn't think it genuinely offered something desireable.
 
Yap... I supposed they don't use Instant Messenging, Email or SMS on their cellphones at all. Silly Rabbits.
 
I'm barely tolerating typing on these forums, and reading these forums as is. This method of communicating is so old it should be done away with. Also why are stores still selling pens and pencils, out with the old already.
 
Played Dead Space yesterday while chatting with some gaffers, very nice... never felt alone, still the game scared the shit out of me... :|

I think I will spend a lot less time on GAF and more time on IRC PSN. I can talk about games WHILE I'm playing them, in multiple chat rooms. Take that, GAF.

PSN 2.7 = The New GAF.
