PSO2.. (Phantasy Star Online 2) is real!

Ya better be prepared ta buy the JP release of the game if ya don't want a fucked up version of this game. With Segac West cutting features from PS:P & PS:P2 and Segac East still as slow and heavy handed as possible in regards to bringing stuff to our side... just forget about buying the western release -_-

Oof. Lindsay just reminded me of PSU's content delays with a knee to the groin. Yeah, if I don't hear about a worldwide release or a near simultaneous one, I'm afraid I'll have to sit this one out. Seriously, the content delay between Jpn. PSU and Global PSU was... (shudder) Don't make me go back.

I've hated every pso incarnation after version2 (yes, even psp1 and 2 had lost the magic for me) but I'll admit, I'm willing to give sega another shot at consuming all my free time again. Hypehypehype

Saw this mentioned in another thread, found this one, am now super happy.

Between this, Demon's Souls 2 (maybe?), and all the Team ICO stuff I couldn't be happier with TGS.

I really hope they can recapture the magic of PSO. Hopefully they get the same music composer/composers. The atmosphere of some of those areas in PSO still makes me super nostalgic just thinking about them. The rainy area in the forest? Amazing.

Please let this be awesome.

WTF!! This was unexpected! I would have prefer it on 3DS but hell, this is amazing news! Can't wait for more intel about it! :D

Free to play MMO?

No. I'm not going to let bad thoughts ruin this. I've been waiting for this announcement for like a third of my life.
Dream on. Free to play with cash shop. IE psu and psp2 dlc.

There are no words for what I am feeling right now. :D :D :D :D

I pray Sega does not fuck this up, or this day goes from 'new birthday' to 'day my mom died v2'.

Come GAF, let us once again venture into the warm international hive-mind that is PSO.

I was at the E3 where Sega was showing of PSO before its release. I'm not sure I've ever been as hyped for a game as I was for that. I remember going back to the place I was staying every day after the show and just sitting there daydreaming of how awesome PSO was going to be.

(It didn't quite live up to what I imagined it was going to be, but I still lost my life to it anyhow.)

I even added that damn Swatch @time (or whatever it was called) to my website at the time because I was so addicted to PSO.

What did I just watch? Was that PSO2?

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Damn, all these announcements are too much!

Like I said, cash shop. And I imagine PS3 considering how big their fanbase was for PSU on PS2.

and 360, since 360 is the successor to the xbox which was the successor to the DC! ;p

BETTER NOT BE PC ONLY
Really a PC capable of running this will likely be very inexpensive.

If it's PC only we can help you design one that will run it for as little as possible.

PSO without controller based gameplay=meeeeeeeeh.

Lord knows I'll need one for Diablo III, so I'll live if this does end up being PC only!

I'd be really surprised if they didn't support gamepads for the game.

Well I've just been playing a ton of Blue Burst lately. Playing it now, I can see how flawed the game is and how it is seriously lacking in some areas. However, as testament to its genius, the game remains nothing less than superbly addictive and - chiefly - fun throughout. I am very much looking forward to PSO2!

DON'T BE A SLAVE TO THE DESIGN OF THE ORIGINAL PSO, SEGA! Improve on the foundation and make something other-wordly!

(Also the music makes the game. If you can't create good enough compositions, give up now)

I'll be playing this on PC anyway, so no console port so far announced is fine by me.

PSO2 winning formula = PSP2 but with PSO atmosphere and presentation. That's it. :D And why mags? It's just PITA upkeep. No to section IDs too. Seriously PSP2 gets it. If you haven't played it yet, it just came out. Go play it :P

This I can agree with whole-heartedly. It's something that was a good idea in theory, but in practice it just means spending an hour with an online name-checking tool making sure you can come up with a character name that gets you the drops appropriate for you character and doesn't make you sound like an illiterate dick.

Actually correction. PSO2 should be PSP2i :D Also on the PSO hate, I hope they don't go back to limited races either. PSU nails it giving you full customization. It was pretty retarded going back to that in PSZ.

They're really absolutely unnecessary mechanic wise :P

Apart from them giving you different stats and specials. It was great to craft a MAG that acting as support for you too. Just expand on the options and make MAG's more individual.

Can't beleive I was asleep when this was announced, I feel ashamed!

I know its going to be amazing, SEGA can't possibly fuck this up, expand everything that was awesome about PSO, do not mention PSU or try to port over any of its features, final result is the best game of 2011.

Are you kidding? The combat in PSU is evolved beyond and is awesome.

No it "evolved" into just another MMO that was not fun to play whatsoever, not getting into it again (I know you dont like PSO from your posts in other phantasy star threads), nearly everyone I played PSO with back on the DC and Gamecube hated PSU and didnt play it for more than a week.

Edit: I would like the rolling and defending from PSP2 as they are good mechanics, as long as it has as few reminders of PSU in it as possible I will be happy.

I don't get it. Are you not playing PSP2? I could swear I see you posting in there. And it's not that I don't like PSO. I loved it in the day. I just moved on and accepted evolution and change unlike you rosetinted glasses folk.

Actually it would probably be a genuinely better game if it was designed specifically for PC.
People seem to want a genuine sequel to PSO which was a console game. Adding PC-like gameplay wouldn't be true to PSO's roots. Unless the game has high system requirements a console version should be a no brainer.

I like PSP and plan on picking it up once a "definitive" version is released, it's just I'd rather they work on the PSO base and evolve from there. We have tons of PSP games already. It's not like we're starving for those.

Honestly designing it for PC is the way to go from this point on if we want to avoid past console restrictions like on the disk content. Well, not that it matters as much nowadays with consoles already having HDDs. But that was a pretty major point with how PSO and PSU were designed.

They did and you got PSZ :lol As much friend points out, PSZ did everything better than PSO and look at what you got.

I am but only as it has changed from PSU (Sakai changed it enough for me) and is a hell of a lot better, as I edited in on my other post I wouldn't mind the rolling and blocking as they are a good feature.

I don't wear rosetinted glasses, I went back to blue burst after trying PSU 2 or 3 times and enjoyed it a fuck ton more.
