Well, that was bizarre. Renewed for season 2 though. Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of it entirely, but I did like the performances of Mother and Father. The kid playing Campion (Winta Mcgrath) unfortunately really looks a lot like the actress who played Sally Draper In Madmen (Kiernan Shipka) and I found it kind of distracting (I legit had to go to IMDB straight away to check they weren't related, apparently not). Not sure about the whole worm thing, but it is what it is. My own personal theory is that there's some mild hallucinogenic property to the atmosphere of the planet or plant life, which is why all the humans at least all seem to be tripping balls occasionally.

Finished it up yesterday. A good show, but i just cant say its one of the best show iv seen. Visual are nice, nothing wrong about that, its prehaps the story which is a bit hard to put it together that make me not being in love with that show as i was with Westworld.

Finished it.
Overall I enjoyed it and looking forward to Season 2.
It's definitely a show where you just sort of have to go with it and not question the logic and reasoning behind a lot of stuff. But it's enjoyable and bizarre in an enjoyable way.

I do hope they have a clear plan though. I don't see this remaining interesting/engaging for more than 2 or 3 seasons.

Just finished the last episode, and I hated what they did with it.
The first episode up to ep 5 was some of the best television I have ever seen.
Loved that base conflict that was told between Atheists and Mithraics. Earth veing devastated. The whole style.

But where they went at the end is completely mystery box bullshit, and I have had enough of that over the last twenty years.

Will they bring in a new ark every new series from now on? What's that bullshit. I thought there was one ark, and the only chance the Atheists had seen saving human race was sending those androids.

Naaah, fuck this. Really.

I want to check this out, but the fact that it's not in 4K makes it a nonstarter for me.
Unbelievable that such a sci-fi show in today's maket is not 4K, I really don't understand.

I know I'm late to the party, but better late than never. Just watched the first two episodes. SO good. The pilot was one of the best sci fi pilots I've ever seen. Highly recommend.
Enjoy it, it's good but the pilot is easily the best part of the show.

Ok, a couple gripes to get out of the way first. Spoilers ahead, but this thread is already spoiler-heavy.

Like Evilore said, characters in the religious faction aren't as fleshed out as they could be. Most are just 2D "religiousy" from an atheist Hollywood writer's perspective.

Second gripe was the rapist. He had no point in the whole season, he didn't even form a subplot. It seemed like he was thrown in at the last minute just to get on the woke/me too bandwagon or something.

That said, I really liked the first season. Yeah, the pilot was the best part but the rest held up well. I really like how the finale ended, Season 2 will definitely have some potential.

Let’s hope HBO writer’s don’t do what they managed to do with Westworld and True Detective and have a single episode destroy everything you were interested in up too that point

Game of Thrones at least had a 5 season run before it turned to shit so I’m optimistic with Scott on board still. The minute he pulls a JRR Martin and leaves that’s when it’s time to worry.

The rapist was dope. His look and voice were awesome. His transformation into gigachad explains the child training flashback, sets up Ragnar's final episode transformation and the snake subplot and is further proof of the ancient alien origin. In turn, the ancient alien stuff provides a healthy dose of dramatic irony for the religious faction.
This show has a nice way of explaining the weird shit without dumping exposition on you. It takes 2 episodes to explain why Ragnar couldn't start the ship, 6 episodes to explain why Mother was able to decloak it and did not kill Ragnar, 4-5 episodes to make sense of the jarring moment when the creator guy bites her shoulder in the dream and 10 episodes to explain Mother's abilities. There are many things, big or little, that either make no sense or don't seem important when first shown but a couple of hours later it all fits together nicely.

On 5th episode so far, loving it.

PS
What other (sci-fi preferably, but not limited to) shows by HBO are considered "very good"? (GoT aside)

I'm willing to keep an open mind and consider that I might have somehow overlooked his relevance to the first season. I'm not sure what you mean in the bolded sentence though, could you elaborate? I def agree with everything you wrote after that.

Android blood has the same role as the black goo from Prometheus and Covenant. The rapist is a plot device to introduce its effects in this series. He uses Mother's android blood to acquire superpowers. Ragnar swallows the same substance when that guy shoves the eyes into his mouth and also undergoes a physical transformation. The alien baby consumes it and it's the same thing the atheists were injecting kids with in episode 2 (it's white and makes them strong lol).
The effects of the android blood are set up by the rapist's use of it, so the next episode doesn't stop to explain WTF is going on with Ragnar and why the snake grew so much. It also loops back to the beginning of the show and makes it even more obvious that all factions and characters are following some sort of Prometheus ancient alien plan (this in conjuction with the metal cards and the cave painting).

The rapists's secondary role is to reinforce the notion that high rank Mithraists have more independent thought than low level grunts. He and the incinerated guy replaced by Ragnar don't exactly follow the scriptures. Furthermore, low rank mithraists are quite ignorant of androids, while the rapist and the atheists know there's something fishy about them and that their blood is more than simple fuel.

Ok, yeah I was oblivious to the android blood aspect when I was watching. Thanks for explaining! I did, however, appreciate the ancient aliens. Definitely looking forward to seeing how that plays out in the second season.

The first season started off amazing and fell as the season went on. I still enjoyed it overall and I hope season 2 is great. I'm all for orginal scifi
Pretty much my view as well. It had so much potential up through the death of all but the last kids. Then it just started to get weird, particularly once they found that weird artifact in the desert. I'll watch Season 2, because I want to see where this goes. But it's not an endorsement of the series by any means. I'm also watching Season 2 of Another Life on Netflix, and that is objectively the worst sci-fi series ever made. I think it slipped into "so bad it's good" territory somewhere around episode 2 or 3.

Sometimes, you have to watch the train wreck until the last car derails.

Another Life needs to just head straight into a porn parody because its about as fun just without the boobs.

I'm convinced now that someone at Netflix HATES sci-fi. They torpedoed Altered Carbon, Cowboy Bebop, Another Life, and countless other pseudo sci-fi properties that are really just tween drama. Lost in Space is about their only good one and they have an entire final season to destroy it. Not that Apple, Hulu, or Amazon are much better. Nor Paramount if what I hear of all the recent Star Trek seasons is true. Somewhere around LOST the drive for actual exploration and sci-fi was switched with mystery box nonsense surrounded by endless interpersonal drama and flashback "surprise!!" character reveals.

Should I watch this? I like Ridley Scott, but I don't know if I should spend the time watching this.

If you hated Prometheus, then this show replaces the "this is dumb, this isn't my beloved aliens franchise" factor for a "what the hell is going on, this isn't my beloved aliens franchise" factor. There is a heavy dose of ancient Roman cult and mysticism in this show that you might find of interest but probably not.

Just watched the first esposide. Cool, androids can apparently scream and it's the same effect as a BFG9000.

Started out great, but started to lose me as they started introducing religious undertones. I stopped watching after religion became the main story focus.
(I'm sad cuz I really love Aliens and Blade Runner, though I hated Prometheus)

Not gonna bother with season 2.

Watched the first two episodes. Campion is a lot less annoying now, thank goodness. The CGI though, what the fuck happened?

I only watched the first episode of season 2 so far and I noticed something too, cant remember what it was but yeah..did they lower the budget for the CGI? Because it dont look as good as season 1.

Still loving the show though

So... besides the Androids being Mithraic, the Atheists seem bigger scum in the first two episodes? Interesting dynamic, also Marcus just trying to convert everyone...

I kinda hope it gets those 5 seasons the characters want because I like the lore, world building and acting in this. CGI seems to have taken a hit, but I'm going to assume its because those CGI parts are on screen for more than a second.

It seems like they just hit the reset button on Marcus and are doing a redo of exactly what they did with him in season 1.

Mother needs to get her abilities back at some point. The combat mode was one of the best parts of the show. It’s very slow moving to start season 2 though.

What’s up with these transport vehicles looking like door stoppers! I don’t remember the fighters looking like shit either! Special effects took a noise dive to me. I’m only episode 1.

Ok episode 3 was really awesome. Father kicking some ass. Marcus being badass and showing his strength. Lots of interesting stuff happening.

The serpent is still odd as hell, but finally showing up again in episode 3. But it still too slow to address why/what it's there. Father seems to becoming more emotional/irrational. Hope it picks up.

I'm just watching to fill Scifi void. Got bored with Expanse, Foundation was disappointing. For all man kind was intriguing but S1 is enough for me. I can't even think of Scifi that is memorable right now, it's been that bad for me.
