No. It works fine. Thanks for your concern, though.

Let's just stay away from first person. Seeing Claire and Leon limp around the R.P.D. are part of what made the game iconic. There should be some level of deference to the presentation of the original game - it was incredible.
If you want to make a more action heavy game, that's why spinoffs exist.
The mainline series doesn't need anymore bad games.
They got lucky with RE4, which is a great game. 5 and 6 tried to recreate that and failed. If Resi 8 takes a more action heavy approach I'll give them the chance they deserve after Resi 7, but 2 needs to be more in the classic style, that's just something you don't mess with. RE2 controls fine to this day.
Yeah nothing from the developer conferences ever said RE engine was only for First Person. So the engine is probably more versatile than many of us think.
In the general scheme of things I think the most amount of controversy would be as followed
First Person RE2make - Most Controversy
Third Person Over the Shoulder - Milk Controversy
Fixed Camera - Least Controversy
And if Resident Evil 2 Remake is a $60 retail release, many people will not expect it to play just like the PS1 game.
No matter what happens, people are going to be disappointed. For example, I would be very happy with a classic-style game but I want the look and style of RE4/5 with slower-paced gameplay.
What I don't want is a single first person moment in the game. I will be massively disappointed if we don't get to see Claire or Leon while we play.

I don't see how anyone could be legitimately mad if it's an old-school RE game with updated graphics. It's a remake of a classic game, not RE8. Anyone that does get angry about this has unrealistic expectations.

I'd take first person RE2 and DmC 2 over third person RE2.
To me the only ones to succeed were 4 and Revelations 2. Going to start RE7 this week.5 is a fantastic game though. They didn't fail at all.
Unless it is using pre-rendered backgrounds, then I would find it disappointing if it's just a carbon copy with updated visuals.
There is a very good reason why fixed camera angles in a shooting game are now a gameplay relic in this industry. But alas it is Capcom and even though RE7 was phenomenal SFV and MvCI are reasons for concern.

Despite the reception of RE7. The game being in first person seems to be the biggest criticism I see most often even for fans of the games.
Only with those having a VR headset being really for it.

So let me say this. At this point, with how different RE has been throughout its lifetime as a series, I am totally fine with any of those styles. I just want a great game, like how I felt with the original RE2. I will judge it on those merits even if I prefer them going classic with fixed camera. This dumb gameplay preference debate destroys fanbases. Like I know ppl have preferences and that is fine. Also not liking certain games is totally fine but it being the only reason that the game is bad and not how the game is, is ridiculous to me. So, in my opinion, we need to judge a Remake of a game (which can be totally different) as a game first. I think sometimes some fans forget that. So I am excited for REmake 2, for whatever style it takes.Yeah nothing from the developer conferences ever said RE engine was only for First Person. Well then they shouldn't be calling it Resident Evil 2 in that case. That game is beloved, and if you put that name on the box then people will expect it to play a certain way.
Didn't Capcom bring the group that was working on an over-the-shoulder remake of 2 into the studio for consultation over the remake?
There sure is, and it's called Resident Evil 4.I mean maybe there's a reason behind that. You guys are saying that I don't want a new classic RE when I already said many times that I want to I would like a reimagination of the game to see what they could pull off. That's it.
Wishing a good game and series to fail is petty.God i pray re7 underperformed enough for capcom to shut first person resident evil down forever.

ToucheNot what he said.
It's beloved to handful of diehard old-school fans. Maybe a few newcomers. They want to sell to new people, too. You don't do that with old-school game mechanics. A "prettier" and "marginally improved" remake is pretty pointless in the AAA space, if you ask me. If it's mostly like the old game then there really was no need to remake it in the first place, it should have just been ported or outsourced to a small studio to HD-ify it.
If you're going to put in a huge level of effort to have it sell in the AAA space, then you remake it, whole-cloth, as a modern game using the old setting/story. A new game is better than a "pretty" version of the old game, if you ask me. The old game still exists for you to play if you prefer the old game.
There's a reason capcom moved away from those old games - they weren't selling. REmake was done BEFORE RE4, before they figured out what sold better. The HD ports we got were low level of effort comparatively. If you go in expecting this to play like something pre RE4, you're likely gonna have a bad time. If you're ***LUCKY*** you'll get an homage or control scheme similar to the oldschool RE, but that sure as hell isn't going to be the default way to play, I'd imagine.
Hope for a wink and a nod from capcom, but don't expect this game to cater to you. They want money, not golfclaps.
So, how do you explain the success of the Crash collection, then? After all, that's just "old" gameplay, with prettier graphics. Also, RE2 isn't just beloved by a "handful" of fans. It sold almost 6 million copies, and is one of the most acclaimed entries in the series. I think it could sell well in the classic style due to nostalgia alone, just as Crash did. The question is whether or not Capcom believes this.
As for the older games not selling well, bear in mind that REmake and RE0 were exclusive to GameCube, which isn't the platform the RE fanbase was on. Also, bear in mind that Survival Horror was an oversaturated genre at the time, and fatigue had set in. There hasn't been a game like this in over a decade however, and RE2 will be multi-platform, so these would no longer be concerns.

If RE2 Remake ends up being in the style of RE4-6 I'd be disappointed, but not nearly as much as if it ends up being in the style of RE7.
That's what the majority wants and it should be. Remake HD shows that there's still a market for it and it's why this project exists.I was hoping for a REmake-esque version of RE2 complete with shitty tank controls. Not being sarcastic here.
Has anyone heard any updates from this?
its been forever since it was announced but no new updates since then...
i really thought they would pull the trigger this E3 but nothing...
Do you have any other upcoming projects youd like to tease?
Hiroyuki Kobayashi: The only thing I can tell you is about something thats already out in the public. Resident Evil 2, a remade version, the game, will be out from Capcom soon.
No. That's marketing.

What is object permanence.

How long did the original remake take to develop?
Pretty damn incredible tbhAbout a year, IIRC it only had a skeleton crew for a while as well.
All that will tell them is not to focus on horror over action.God i pray re7 underperformed enough for capcom to shut first person resident evil down forever.
Cassic REmake 2 got scrapped and turned into an open-world FPS dating sim with RPG elements and a wacky companion of no distinct race or gender.
Given how good RE7 was, Capcpom pls, keep the oxymorons coming. If it's gonna be first person I ain't even gonna play it. 'First person RE' is an oxymoron to me.
