Resident Evil 4 HD Project - Progress Thread

All of these 3D edits are making my head spin. Also, did 3D modeling these papers mean the game naturally started rendering shadows for them? Because god DAMN that's a huge upgrade.

A new update from Albert! Commentary and a video of the area are up at re4hd.com

And here are the comparison shots. Enjoy the work in progress!

Whenever this thread gets bumped it makes me so happy. You guys are not far off now. I can't wait to replay RE4 start to finish with your texture pack and I hate pretty much every other texture pack I've ever run into.

This is honestly some of the very best retexturing work I've seen... I know I always say it, but it's always true.

Going by the progress summary on the site am I correct in understanding that the textures are totally completed through r217?

Itchin to play some.

I've been stunned over how amazingly well done this is.

You guys should definitely get official recognition from CAPCOM for your hard work.

Is there any estimate or updated demo/Castle part on the horizon?

I love the final areas of the game, and your work is truly making them shine!

One criticism: In the new video, Leon zooms in on the machinery with the scope and the the texture for some of the front panels is clearly flipped, with text being mirrored. I imagine that's an error?

Hi everyone! New update from inside the clock tower, along with some quick replies to the questions since the last update. :) As always, you can follow the project at re4hd.com

Questions and Answers:
Will enemies also get updated textures?
Yup! Pretty much everything will. Check out the FAQ for more info: http://www.re4hd.com/?page_id=104

I believe that's just part of the revised texture, sorry. :-( Though I agree, that would have been huge. :-)

No decisions yet on whether we'll do an updated demo for the castle section, sorry. We'll most likely decide on that once that portion of the game is complete.
With the real glass 3D edit s, can you break it?
I don't believe so.

Thanks for the feedback and for taking the time to watch the video. I have that on my list of things to revise once I get to that room. :)

Is the text actually readable in those notes in the wall? If so, did you improvise or reconstructed from the source material?
While I haven't personally reviewed those individual textures yet, generally speaking if we're able to find the original source for the texture, then the text would reflect that (unless it's something that completely doesn't fit -- an example I've mentioned before is that some of the notes in the village section of the game actually come from an Influenza notice, and so that was revised). On the other hand, if we are re-creating the texture from scratch, we do our best to improvise text that fits with the context of the area and the game as a whole.

Thanks again, everyone, for all the encouragement!

Every time I see this thread bumped, my heart skips a beat!
There are not enough superlatives in the world do describe the love and attention being poured into this.
Amazing work!

Something to keep in mind,

if you're baking the shadows into the textures, if people ever figure out how to implement Ambient Occlusion into the game, those areas will basically be getting shadowed twice. It looks really great how it is, but to future proof might be worth saving a version without shadowing as well as a backup?

Yup, stuff like that can easily be undone (just a matter of a quick edit to the PSD file).

This is insanity, and if Capcom were the most amazing company in the world, they would cut this guy a nice check, buy his work, and implement it into the actual release of the game.

I have never played RE4 and am happy to say I have been patiently holding off until this project is complete so I can experience it for the first time with all of this amazing detail.

Great work you guys. I know it will be worth the wait

I hope this is bumped because Capcom has decided to use Crisdecuba's work for the upcoming RE4 re-release. RE4 is coming out last so it makes sense that they would need extra time to use it.

As a spaniard I amazingly happy all the amount of detail that has gone to texts that would have very probably been in spanish in the game world, being in spanish.

I know talking with south american spanish accent has some funny charm and we all had a a good laugh about it (even if its completly wrong and a huge capcom fuck up), but I would pay a lot of money for all the villagers to actually talk in castillian spanish with some phrases even in galician or vasque (they never say exactly were it takes place, only that is northern spain). Thats would be amazing, and a plaga talking in deep galician/vasque scary as fuck.

Wanted to check up on the progress after the new port announcement. Hot damn, you guys. It's been forever since I replayed the game on Wii, absolutely can't wait for this amazing labor of love.

Capcom should use this as the port for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and give these guys a large cut. It is evident that Capcom are using the vanilla PC version as the port for XB1 and PS4.

Yeah, it's such a big difference.

I could always play the original vanilla version since the gameplay's the same and the art direction is still awesome but yeah.... I'll take redone textures any day of the week.
