Here are some of my thoughts from my second playthrough of the demo.

As much as I was awkward with the controls in the beginning once I got used to them I almost didn't care. I'm kind of a pussy when it comes to scary games so I like the direction the series took. They went for more intensity, when you are fighting the chainsaw guy I could actually feel my heart beating a little bit faster, it was a cool experience.

Does anyone here change the brightness? The game says the best settings are when the BSAA letters are slightly out of focus, but I don't quite get what they mean by that. Do they mean when the letters are just slightly visible?

yep. But does it say "out of focus"?

I find it funny that some people say RE5 is an action packed African thrillride based on the demo that is given to us to highlight the gameplay. These same people are apologists for the Dead Space demo telling people that it's not at all indicative of the retail product. What makes you think RE5 will be the same as the demo? Didn't RE4 teach you otherwise?

Tried playing it again, but RE5 just seems so cheap and third rate. It's like they couldn't figure out the hardware or something. Why don't the enemies look like they've been shot when you shoot at them (it's so slow and plodding ? Get out of the 90's, Capcom. And bodies dissolving instantly after "killing" the infected? Does anything else scream "technical limitations" louder?

I still don't get how people can defend the controls. It is ridiculous that your feet are stuck to the ground as soon as you try and aim your weapon (was it like that in RE4? I don't recall). Poor design, plain and simple (even worse if the developer is incapable of making a great game where you can move *and* shoot).

Capcom has really sucked this generation...still, at least there is SFIV.

WTF is the point of releasing a demo if it isn't doesn't resemble the final product?

:lol

You, and many others, act like they're sitting there at Capcom HQ trying to crack the secret of making AI run at you fast or how to move while shooting.

Some of you people, I swear.

Disappearing enemies? We're going to complain about that? Jesus.

To whet people's appetite for the game? The ONLY demos that really give you a true impression of the game are the ones that damn near let you play the first half of the game's intro areas. Think Dragon Quest VIII, Bioshock, older PC shareware and/or demos, fighting game demos, etc.

Also how has Capcom sucked this gen? Dead Rising was awesome, Resident Evil 4 Wii edition was awesome, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Lost Planet (well the MP was tons of fun), SSFIITHD remix, Devil May Cry 4 (that game was really fun despite the area back tracking).

Dont see what you mean by enemies being shot not looking that way. Shoot em in the arm, arm flails back. Weapon? It either breaks or is knocked out of their hand and can possibly inflict damage on them. Legs/ankles? They kneel abit. Headshot? Boom, and left over mid stage plagas parasites hanging from whats left of their neck.

The facial animations themselves are already really visceral and rage filled. Just try getting grabbed by a Majini and see their eyes and the way they try to attack with the split mouth.

Yes.

The game is quite a bit darker if you go by what they are saying to change your brightness to. My settings have it just a quarter away from being completely to the left of the darkness bar. I'm not quite sure if I'll keep it like that. I have mixed feelings on it. On one hand its definitely darker and indoor environments are more atmospheric, but I feel like I'm losing a bit of detail on the weapon models/character models. I'll keep tinkering around with it. Anyones opinions on this would be nice to have as well.

Also I'm improving a lot more as I play the demo. I no longer take the time to actually walk up to a player and then select give item in the menu as its a waste of time. I find it faster to instantly equip whatever item I want to give to my partner, then right trigger to target my partner and just run up and give it to them. More mobile, and a lot faster.

Also the "find" player button (right trigger default on type D) is proving to be speeding my shooting up quite a bit as well as my evasive abilities. While keeping the position of an ally in mind I can use the right trigger and a slight squeeze to instantly look in the direction of my partner and shoot whatever is there. It's less effective with a human player due to them being less predictable in movement, but it's still a great speed up when you know where they are.

Also I'm taking axe guy down within moments with this method. Before I'd get some headshots, then a melee and some shotgun blasts in before having to do a 180 and turn around or move around him, but with the player find ability you get an extra second to move out of the way. If you just 180 it takes a bit longer to turn around due to the animation and there is a delay with the running. If you find player you INSTANTLY turn around and can begin running immediately.

I generally put it one or two notches higher than what it suggests. I know the FEAR 2 demo was impossible to play with the suggested brightness. Even when I put it up a bit it still seemed too dark but I didn't want to push it any more than that. I'll be able to see what RE5 is like tomorrow.

Yup, so much easier to just quickly equip and hand it to em. For brightness, I did it where I could still make out the words BSAA but barely. Not sure if that helps, but i'll take a picture of my settings sometime soon.

I'm shocked that people are displeased with the demo. Maybe it's because I've played through RE4 6+ times, but the controls are perfect for me. Sure, it would be nice to walk and aim at the same time, but I like it because it requires me to be more strategic with when and where I shoot.

I think RE5 is a lot more fluent than 4 thanks to the screen that lets you swap items in mid action. Again, this requires the player to be more cautious with switching items. You no longer feel safe when you go to the weapon screen. I love it!

Now, I'm one of those guys that can't got back to the pre-RE4 games in the series. Resident Evil 2 was my favorite, but I just can't play that style of gameplay after RE4. So, I guess people that have played Gears of War or Dead Space have trouble playing a more restrictive game like RE5. But, for me, I think it works. Not only does it work, but I love the engine RE5 runs on.

The co-op, though. Seriously, holy crap. It's a blast! I haven't had this much fun with a game in a long time, and this is only the demo! Resident Evil was never a mulitplayer game, but I think RE5 changes that. Just like how RE4 changed the series from being a surival horror game to an action game with horror elements.

I'm kinda rambling, but I just haven't been this excited for a game in a long time! The fact that RE5 is going to link RE4 to the T-Virus, and how I'm going to find out about what happened with STARS after they disbanded blows my mind. See, I'm one of those fans that actually love the story of the RE games. I would always read all the documents, notes, and just look at pictures to find out about all the characters while playing the games.

I give RE5 a thumbs up so far. I'm just having too much fun with the demo to complain about the game, especially over something silly like disappearing enemies. Keep in mind this is only the tip of the iceberg. Ha! The demo is comparable to just two chapters (or less) in RE4's village area. There is so much more! I'm stoked!

It's just funny to see people who claim their favorite of all time is RE4, while they will avoid RE5 at all cost.

If RE5 control feels THAT dated to you, I don't see how you would claim RE4 one of your favorite game ever. RE4 wasn't that long ago, it came out in 2005.
RE4 is my favorite game ever, and I will buy 5 copies of RE5 and worship it forever. Fuck the haters.

okay I'm sure this has been mentioned a 1000 times, but in the blade advertisement, they say you can move and shoot at the same time. HOW?

What's the issue with the demo, Haunted? I'm not snipping at you or anything; I'm actually curious since I loved RE4 and was curious how this is turning out.

I hate to say it as I love capcom, I love RE4, and I want to love RE5, but this demo.. not so good. The controls were bad, the combat was bad, the teammate thing (AI) was bad..

I think I'm going to wait for it to get cheap. I hope I'm wrong though. I hope the final is awesome and I get sucked into the hype. I'll probably be playing too much SF4 to notice, though.

I played RE4 most recently on Wii and I honestly kept wishing I was using the pointer while playing RE5.

Not possible. Left trigger aim + right trigger shoot along with strafing is all that's been added to make it similar to "Gears" controls.

Graphically it's very nice and the level design is quite cool but ultimately the dated controls let it down for me, kudos to those that can master them.

In regards to the knife why do i have to hold a button down then press another one to use it? I really wish Capcom gave you move evasive maneuvers and not just context sensitive ones.

Sure, cross-posting this from the other thread:

This has all been said before, but I'll just chime in with my opinion after having played the PS3 demo as well.

+ presentation is great, graphics are good, I like the setting and cutscenes are well done. Models look good, too.

- PS3 version has some massive framedrops when there's a lot of action on the screen

- aiming is so unbelievably sluggish, it's like Chris is underwater and moving the handgun is taking all of his strength. RE4 Wii most likely ruined this aspect for me.

- the controls are clunky at best, broken at worst. A to D, it's all bad.

- the co-op partner ruins the atmosphere (for me) and just makes the game as a whole a less enjoyable experience. I have a distinct dislike for both AI partners (if they're as vital as they're here, everything feels like an escort mission) and/or being dependant on a stranger connected online to complete the game. The splitscreen screens are a fucking joke, I can't believe they'll ship the game looking like that in splitscreen. Ridiculous.

And that's the last I'll say about this, since I don't want to be a downer for people who are enjoying the game. Just a major, major disappointment for me. :( Went from a must buy from when it was first announced to a rental when more details emerged to a complete pass after the playing the demo. Just ugh.

I downloaded both the RE5 demos.

I played it with Type A controls, because I just couldn't get used to Type B/D in a RE game. It just didn't click for me. Also, I think I've played RE4 on the Cube so much that not having a giant green A button to fire your weapon threw me off for a while, as I kept wanting to press A/Cross to shoot all the time. I really don't like having X/Square as the shoot/item pick up button. I got around it though. I set the aiming to Fast, as the default is too slow and the Fastest movement is a bit too quick. The aiming isn't anywhere near as good as RE4 Wii, but that's the sacrifice one has to make.

Also, fuck everyone who wants run-n-gun in RE5.

I liked the Shanty Town level more than the first level, which felt like a really long version of the cabin siege in RE4. The executioner was cool, managed to kill him with shotgun to the head > uppercut > rinse and repeat.

The Shanty Town was much better, since it showed off the partner gameplay properly. And the chainsaw dude fight was pretty good, with the sniper rifle and the many barrels.

Haven't played co-op yet. I definitely will get around to it. Sheva's AI wasn't bad from the few times I played through - she didn't do anything stupid.

RE5 does seem pretty special. I don't know if it will blow my mind like RE4 did, but I think it could.

Hate the controls.

AI friend is retarded when playing alone.

Pass until it's super cheap/10

Looks like Capcom will lose a bunch of sales due to the forced co-op AI. On the other hand, it also wins some that wouldn't have cared about the game at all without it (that's +2 sales from my co-op buddy and me). It'll be interesting to see how this all balances out in the end, in this age where online console gaming is finally starting to flourish.

If anything, Capcom's the best developer this generation. This is especially considering that they've pumped out quality content across all platforms.

And they've been pretty consistent in this way pretty much every generation. It's just more apparent right now. They're the only ones who haven't slowed down.

I've played this demo through in online co-op and offline multiple times. It's great. Sheva's single player AI needs some help, but other than that, I really enjoyed it.

Is there any way to separate a stack of bullets? I hate having to give ALL of the pistol ammo to someone at once.

I've always defended the tank controls in the old RE games because I felt it worked well with the static camera's cinematic angles. I didn't have any problem with the controls in RE4 either. BUT... from my time spent on the demo so far, I'm having an incredibly hard time dealing with the controls in RE5. The first level shows how outdated and complicated the action controls are. The second level is proof of how clunky it is to maneuver Chris around sharp corners, cramped interiors and stairways.

When Capcom turned the action up a notch, they should've tuned the controls accordingly. I just find myself wishing that Chris would control like Nathan Drake and I'm now also thinking that I'll either wait for a price drop or just skip this frustrating installment entirely.

RE4 controls a million times better than RE5. It's almost a generational gap.

RE4's controls really were ahead of their time.
