Is everyone seeing a publisher posting a puff piece on an upcoming title for the first time in their life? I don't understand the hate that this game draws out of folks, it feels like something else is going on behind the scenes with some of you.

I mean, it looks nice, however I am really not sure about this arcade type of combat with TPS controls, it's like playing fucking geometry wars with Doom Gears/Uncharted style gameplay, I am not sure if I want that. Most likely not.

I felt similarly when Risk of Rain 2 went third person 3d from the first games 2d platforming, but it worked well their so I'm hopefully that is true here as well.

Someone mentioned it was another next-gen title for PS. I'm trying to get a grip on what the general consensus is on what is considered 'next-gen'. There are other 3rd party games that have come out around this time and many don't view them as next-gen simply because they may come out for the last gen systems.

Demon Souls set a very high bar in it's visual quality and I'm trying to make sense of the consistency. I will hold off on getting this unless people start screaming it's all that and a bag-of-chips. I plan on doing a graphics analysis on every game on the PS5 that I buy. I want it to be worthwhile.

Everyone can see what you're doing. You're running defense for this game. At least defend the game on its merits instead of these bad faith assertions. The game does have merits.

Why ask if it's next gen? Because the price is $10 more than Resident Evil 8, implying that they're spending more money on this than previous gen AAA games. In addition, most Housemarque games were not even sold for $60. Most of them weren't even sold for half that. Most of them were $20. They've never been a AAA studio. They've never made a AAA game. Also, there's basically only 1 game in existence that looks like it's been made specifically for PS5 to push graphics not possible on last gen systems, and that's Demon's Souls alone.

Also, there's never even been a roguelike sold for more than $40 ever. There's never been a AAA roguelike. Most of them go for $20. Most of them have much less content than a full-priced AAA game.

As far as graphics are concerned, "next-gen" doesn't mean much anymore. We are talking about incremental upgrades at this point especially since we now have "generations" with hardware upgrades half way through. Imagine if we had gone straight from PS4 to PS5 without any Pro in between? Yeah....this would look incredible. As it is, it looks fine, but no, I'm not wowed by the graphics. But I'm not wowed by much of anything graphics wise on consoles so far. Probably won't be until I see some first party AAA games from Sony or Microsoft.

It's incredible how this game brings out people to hate on it with so little knowledge of the game yet, even worse are the ones that go into any returnal thread to just regurgitate the same shit over and over.
If you have issues with it just stay out of the thread cause all you're doing and derailing it and save everyone from a headache. It's what I do, I don't go into threads to just drag it through the mud.

I personally i think the game looks like a lot of fun and visually had a nice look. It's basically a third person bullet he'll shooter with some roguelike elements. A interesting combination. We're going to start getting a lot more articles and forage of the game soon. I'm waiting for a video that shows off a few mins of uncut footage and some impressions on it to see what the consensus is. If I like what I see. I'll buy it.

If you know anything about gaming you already know that Housemarque will deliver. It's what they do and what they've done for the last two generations. This is as safe a gaming purchase as you can make. Preordered it as soon as I was able to.

Oh yeah 100% agree, I'm definitely going to wait for the reviews on this one. I'm intrigued but not big on the rogue lites, so for me it'll have to do it on a much bigger scale and have an interesting story.
