Rock Band DLC Announcements

I'm Still Standing by Elton John was revealed for Rock Band Blitz, I hope that means there will be a big pack soon. Songs by Iron Maiden and Pink are on there and we got packs for them recently. Bennie and the Jets, Tiny Dancer and Rocket Man are long overdue.

Did nobody post the 15 revealed Rock Band Blitz songs?

Quiet Riot - Metal Health.
Rick Springfield - Jessie's Girl.
Shinedown - Diamond Eyes.
Tears for Fears - Shout.

There's still 10 to go, right? 25 Total songs for RB Blitz? They might have the heavy hitters waiting in the wings to spur on impulse buys closer to release and gain more press.

I'll buy it anyway for Cult of Personality and the other songs will end up being fun on at least one instrument. Also RB Blitz might be fun...

About half of those songs are going to be great to play. That is a much better ratio than usual anyway. I really hope we can get some pro guitar for some of them like cult of personality.

Cult of Personality is great. Shout is OK. The rest, eh. Some people should enjoy them.

(I hate Pumped Up Kicks. Why the fuck is THAT everywhere?)

I've hated Pumped up Kicks ever since I went in this store and it was playing, but I guess the CD they were playing was scratched or something because it would play for like a two minutes, skip, and then restart. I was in there for nearly an hour.

I was afraid I'd have to buy the game that looked boring to play because of a stellar line-up of songs but now I'm relieved.

Thank you HMX.

Midnight Oil in Rock Band? That's a bit nuts.

Yea, this week is.... odd. The Cracker song is actually pretty good, I can see why it got the Pro upgrade. Florence is obviously for the vocalists, and Midnight Oil I... don't get.

And if RBN pulls another 15-song week we'll tie Harmonix for the amount of DLC offerings in the store. So there is that.

Holy shit! Wicker Man will be in Blitz? I already knew I was buying it as soon as I saw that it looked like Freq/Amplitude (which were boring apparently) but this cements it.

So, if you don't follow Harmonix people on Twitter:

HMXHenry said:

The survivor in the licensing fiasco wound up being:

Incubus - "Drive"

They also mentioned that Queens of the Stone Age, Daughtry, and The B-52's are on tap soon. Other comments implied this was supposed to be a singles week, not 3 Incubus tracks, and that the tracks might still happen even though it was a licensing issue.

And, the recent RBN stuff:

lol damn. They almost ruined their streak of weekly DLC release. Only 1 song? Reminds me when Still Alive was the only song available when Harmonix did their joke gag.

RBN releases:

Xbox 360 RBN Releases for Thursday, 6/14/2012

Alternative
Anarchy Club – “Collide” (160 MSP)

Metal
Asking Alexandria – “Reckless & Relentless” (160 MSP) 2x
Chaotrope – “The Hourglass Paroxysm – Part II” (160 MSP)

Punk
SIMPL3JACK – “At War With the Cherubs” (80 MSP)

PS3 RBN Releases for Tuesday, 6/19/2012 (North America) and 6/20/2012 (Europe)

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus – “Reap (Radio Edit)” ($0.99) – Rock
Less Than Jake – “Goodbye, Mr. Personality” ($1.99) – Reggae/Ska
Seven Day Sonnet – “Farewell to Good Days” ($1.99) – Rock
Amberian Dawn – “Field of Serpents” ($1.99) – Metal
Amberian Dawn – “Ghostly Echoes” ($1.99) – Metal

There was a track from An Endless Sporadic but the authors got vocals they weren't supposed to and didn't think to double-check it. And that's why you always leave a note. Or something. There's a lesson here I'm sure.

Next week's DLC:

Available on Xbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 3 on June 19th, 2012

Angels & Airwaves – “The Adventure” O
Owl City – “Fireflies” O
Queens of the Stone Age – “In My Head” O X

These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 on June 20th.

These tracks will be available for $1.99 each on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and $2.00 on Wii. Tracks marked with O will have support for keyboards. Tracks marked with X will have a Pro Guitar / Pro Bass upgrade available for $0.99. For more information about Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrades, visit our support section. Rock Band 3 Pro Mode requires Rock Band Pro-compatible instrument controllers.

It is probably because Fireflies was being played everywhere for months. I could never escape it.

And because, from what I understood, there were issues with the Postal Service masters. Which was why SubPop did Sunny Day Real Estate on RBN first. And then they vanished and everyone was sad. :(

Genuinely curious, since it doesn't appear that anyone here likes any of the music we're releasing, either as DLC or as part of Rock Band Blitz: what exactly would you prefer be released instead?

Totally fine if you think the songs are trash -- musical tastes vary, are subjective, and very personal -- I'm just wondering what would appeal to you. I think we're covering a lot of ground, and over the past (nearly) five years we've made some of music's biggest, most respected artists playable in Rock Band. So outside of the obvious, where are we going wrong here?

As much as I love Postal Service, I'm glad we got as many SDRE tracks as we did. Really wish we would've got more Sub Pop tracks, but that's life.

Stars -- My most wanted band for the game. Being able to duet Your Ex-Lover is Dead or Elevator Love Letter with my wife would be AMAZING.
Broken Social Scene
Wolf Parade
Arcade Fire
Bloc Party
The Wrens
Pulp
Manic Street Preachers -- A Design for Life would be EPIC.
More Interpol
More Flaming Lips
More Metric
More Spoon
More Blur
More The Cure
More Neko Case
More Smiths -- I cannot believe How Soon is Now? is not in the game.
More New Pornographers
David Bowie's Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and Low in their entirety

I've been very disappointed in the DLC, both regular and RBN, for quite a while now. I used to buy TONS.

My problem is, if I come to like a band there's a decent chance I'll take a shot at getting them for RBN. Unless they're on a major, but I'm enough of an obnoxious hipster to not really be into very many major-label bands. And anything I'm into pre-2005 or so, I already know it's a no-go. Like, They Might Be Giants aren't interested/able, and The Dismemberment Plan doesn't want to bother with converting the tapes.

So I'm not really one to request anything. Other than requesting that certain RBN authors pay some goddamn attention when reviewing songs.... >_>

Give me more of everything this guy hates.

The stuff I enjoy most is metal (power metal, hair metal, pretty much any kind) and classic rock. The Iron Maiden pack was a welcome treat, as was Cinderella and Slayer.

I also enjoy things that are really awesome on vocals, as that's my secondary instrument behind guitar/bass (is that thirdary?).

I liked some of it here and there, although I usually don't mind having weeks where I don't like something, since I don't have that much spare money at the moment anyway.

I'd like to see more 70s era Rock released, stuff like Breakfast in America and such, but I understand the more we go towards the 70s/60s the less likely masters are available or usable or the band isn't in a legal standstill.

I'd like to see some of the Harmonix RB1 era songs get RB3 versions. Stuff like Tribe's "Outside" could use harmonies, would also be neat to get a version of Less Talk More Rokk that could play with an actual keytar via MIDI too. But I guess the community backlash over RB3 Versions probably killed any more of those :/

edit: I guess while you're here, I'd also like to voice my request that the Nirvana catalog be more completed. I know Sub Pop was supposedly going to RBN the rest of them, but as Charron pointed out they've just up and disappeared, so if Harmonix could try to work on getting those that'd be pretty cool. You guys are so damn close to having their entire career available in one game.

Seconded. All I really want is Silent Alarm. I would suck ass at trying to replicate Matt Tong's drumming, but it'd be fun as hell, and I like all of the instrumentation and vocals on the album. With their new album dropping in August, the next couple months would be a great time for this, especially since they sound similar (from what little I've heard).

I've always wished for having the entirety of Weezer's blue album as well. I drum to it all the time on my real kit, but it'd be great to have it all on RB.

Like some others, I haven't bought any RB content in ages. Would love a good reason to do so, but I'm probably in the minority judging by what gets released and what's popular.

You've pretty much nailed it on that older stuff. :) But we're always working to get great music from great, classic bands whose music haven't appeared in our games before. Obviously, we want some of that stuff as much as you do.

As for pre-RB3 stuff getting the RB3 treatment, I wouldn't necessarily count them out, but the focus is clearly on getting more and new music. But we'll see -- I agree that playing Freezepop tracks with keyboard support would be awesome!

I'm assuming we keep getting teenybopper stuff like Owl City because it actually sells. If that's what it takes to get weirder, less popular DLC out every so often I'm fine with that.

Is there a place to look up all the DLC releases by DLC release date? I want to know what I've missed out on in the past 5 months or so of not checking up on the latest release.

Off the top of my head, I'm not sure you can look it up on their site, but in the Rock Band Music Store you can just view by release date and start going backwards.

I just want songs that are fun to play on guitar/bass. I watch the weekly DLC videos and most of the charts are boring. Rarely have there been hidden gems like there used to be. Stuff like:

The Mother Hips - White Falcon Fuzz
(I seriously love playing this song so much)
Richard Thompson - The Way That It Shows (Incredible guitar solo)
Dinosaur Jr - Pick Me Up
The Mother Hips - Red Tandy (my favorite bass song)
The Allman Brothers Band - Blue Sky

You know, stuff like that. I miss that. The songs you guys have released are great to listen to, but playing them is a different story IMO.

I will 100% agree with this post. I said I enjoyed the hell out of the metal and classic rock, but that's because most of the time, their charts are interesting and varied.

Unfortunately they're harder to author, as opposed to something heavily produced like Owl City where you can pretty much just copy/paste 8 measures and be done. (Seriously; I've got a song I'm waiting on papers for, there's a verse riff and chorus riff and they repeat without variation all song. Did the whole project in 5 hours, 3 of them on vocals. Ridiculously easy to author, really dull to play.)

And if I can use up my one permitted shameless self-promotion: this is as close to classic rock sounds as I've been able to work on in ages. Jeremy Manjorin - Skinny Seventeen

Also, the latest RBN song that someone actually called 'classic rock', "Our Time" from The Buffalo Joe Band. Just 'cause.

Am I supposed to sympathize with that information? Basically what you're telling me is that there's a possibility that they're picking songs because they're "easier to author", and therefore give a higher profit margin? They've been authoring songs for years now, and it should be a well-oiled machine by this point.
