Rock Band DLC Announcements

Am I supposed to sympathize with that information? Basically what you're telling me is that there's a possibility that they're picking songs because they're "easier to author", and therefore give a higher profit margin? They've been authoring songs for years now, and it should be a well-oiled machine by this point.

Nope, just adding info to the conversation.

Drive?!?! That's the only Incubus song that ever meant anything to me, and it meant a lot to me at the time. Bought.

Genuinely curious, since it doesn't appear that anyone here likes any of the music we're releasing, either as DLC or as part of Rock Band Blitz: what exactly would you prefer be released instead?
I bought every song last week and just bought Drive. Keep this up and I'll be very happy.

Going back in time:
- Not into numetal
- Not into hair metal
- Not into Paramore
- Two Tickets to Paradise is cute, but RB parties aren't what they used to be
- Train is Satan
- Not into P!nk
- Not into Evanescence
- Not into Shinedown
- I hate Smooth with a passion despite somehow getting over my aversion to Rob Thomas
- Not into Three Days Grace
- Not into pop-punk (at least the modern variety)
- Not into Huey Lewis
- Not giving Megadeth money
- Not into the valentine songs this year
- Not into Bush
- Bought the CCR pack first day.
etc.
- Loved the Stevie Wonder pack.

I'd love to see more Dire Straits, Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, Warren Zevon. Are they really too expensive and/or unpopular? I can't imagine all the masters are gone for those bands. I understand that Neil Young is resistant to this style of game, but he did waste a great song on that other company. What about Peter Gabriel? Talk Talk? Gary Numan? Mission of Burma, Siouxsie, Police, Midnight Oil, Joy Division are a great start, but we need more of that kind of music with substance. Of course, early U2 and Pink Floyd would be great to get, but probably not likely.

It's not that I exclusively like classic rock and new wave, but my favorite 90s-00s-10s artists (Tragically Hip, Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, Breeders, James, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Shins, Modest Mouse, Shearwater, Yeasayer, Wye Oak, St. Vincent, The National, School of Seven Bells, Frankie Rose, Lower Dens, etc. etc. etc.) are either too expensive to license, not a good fit for rock band, or not popular enough to warrant publishing. I understand that. But it's not going to make me buy music I don't love.

I also really liked many of that Euro pack that was released the week after RB3 came out. More curveballs like that would help break up the tedium of popular and crappy music.

Of course, I want you guys to stay in business, so keep publishing popular and crappy music, but if you don't release music I love, I become less personally invested in you, you know?

I have to say, this set me off on my biggest Rock Band 3 kick in months. I sort of realized that I never did anything with non-pro guitar or bass or drums.

Bono is the Robin Williams of the musical world in more than just looks. He used to be good!

Seriously, I love War whole and entire, and won't apologize for that. Earlier stuff is a little too samey for me. Joshua Tree has some really great stuff (Exit/Mothers of the Disappeared being an amazing closing set). despite the ridiculously overplayed singles. And Achtung Baby has some incredibly bad lyrics but the songs still move me.
I really liked Beautiful Day.

Totally fine if you think the songs are trash -- musical tastes vary, are subjective, and very personal -- I'm just wondering what would appeal to you. I think we're covering a lot of ground, and over the past (nearly) five years we've made some of music's biggest, most respected artists playable in Rock Band. So outside of the obvious, where are we going wrong here?

Elton John is high up on my list or anything with fun keys like the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack. Bowie has some good songs for keys as well. My favorite pack so far has been John Lennon's Imagine.

this is entirely untrue. you cant please every one every week, but you guys have put out some AMAZING stuff, even just recently.

the Maiden pack was godlike. seriously a studio release from the first album? i couldnt buy that pack fast enough.

the Rush 2112 (thank you!) and Slayer packs also come to mind from recent memory. like i said more QOTSA is always welcome.

there is a TON of great music that has been released over the years, and the last year has been great for me and my friends. we have bought many packs.

not interested in the Blitz lineup though. a few of the songs might be fun to play, but the list is underwhelming.

I love Rock Band DLC and have over 1,000 songs but as of late I've been slowing down on purchases (though you guys have been slowing down on releases, of course). It seems there's been A LOT of nu-metal or modern rock stuff and I'm sure it sells well and I tell my self that to not get so annoyed and be thankful anything is coming out at all. I'm a huge music fan so my list could go on forever, but if there's one thing I'd have to say is missing is modern indie stuff. You know, Pitchfork bands and the like. There's so many great harmony and key tracks from hot bands in the last decade I'm dying to see like:

MGMT - Kids, Electric Feel, Time to Pretend
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero, Heads Will Roll
Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks
Klaxons - Atlantis to Interzone, Golden Scans, Magick
The Rapture - House of Jealous Lovers
Passion Pit - The Reeling, Sleepy Head
Neon Indian - Polish Girl
Hot Chip - Boy From School, Ready For The Floor
LCD Soundsystem - Yeah (Crass Version), Daft Punk is Playing My House, Disco Infiltrator

Was really sad when Fleet Foxes didn't come through for RBN and the potential of RBN dried up soon after Of Montreal, Sleater-Kinney, The Hold Steady, New Pornagraphers ect stopped having songs for the service. I make it a habit still of every Friday morning looking at next weeks DLC list, even Charron's RBN list though I've not bought any RBN content in forever. Thanks for posting in this thread and hearing everyone out, I'll be looking forward to RB DLC until the end :)

A lot of people that like what's being released aren't very vocal about it.

If they were, rock band threads would be one guy going "Yay!" and a bunch of other people tearing the happy guy down telling him his music sucks.

Some Psychobilly music. Some Tiger Army, Nektomantix, Demented Are Go, Koffin Kats...
I guess I would like some early-AFI too.

I like most of what gets released though. I can't buy all of it, but I don't have too many problems with any of it. My favorite packs so far have been the Lady Gaga, QotSA, and Maiden packs.

I just really want to see some psychobilly in the game. I was hoping it would happen with RBN, but not so much. I don't know if anyone would complain about stand-up bass being charted to regular bass or not. Or if it just wouldn't get charted at all. But I've been wanting some psycho in the RB series for about 4 years now, since I first got introduced to Tiger Army.

I haven't played RB in a couple months but I am looking forward to Blitz. Simply because it is more RB and it reminds me of Frequency/Amplitude. I'm lucky that my new job will pay for 350lbs worth of stuff when I go to Greenland in a month or so, because it means I can take my instruments. There won't be shit else to do when I am off work; might as well jump back in to RB.

Don't know if it's nationwide but I was in Wal Mart earlier, looks like AC/DC Live is now on clearance for 5$ (at least for Xbox 360)

I think you guys do a generally great job of picking music. Sometimes stuff isn't my bag, but that's not a problem. It does feel like the more recent releases have been a bit more main-stream, but that's not always bad. I'm surprised to see Angles & Airwaves The Adventure show up now. That's a song I was dying for back when it first came out, and I'm glad it's finally available (and the long wait was worth it, since it allowed for the addition of keys).

Personally, I think the most fun songs in Rock Band tend to be classic rock, pop-punk, and indie. If it has an awesome guitar solo or an anthemic chorus, I'm down for it.

I know calling out specific bands isn't the best strategy, since licences are so hard to get a hold of, but I'm shocked that it's been so long since the addition of keys to Rock Band and there STILL aren't any Motion City Soundtrack songs. They are literally the first band that popped into my head when keys were announced.

Also, more punk ska. Please. There's basically next to none of it, even when you include Rock Band Network (which, thank god, got Less Than Jake a few months ago). And the songs in that genre are so fun, they'd be a blast to play.

I agree with robut on the lack of indie too. Lots of the bands he mentioned would be great. I really wish The Hold Steady kept up with releasing songs. They had a song out on day one of RBN and it had me super excited for the future of the platform, but then they never released another song. I know you guys don't have control over what goes up on RBN, but it'd be nice to see HMX picking up the slack on the indie side of things and not leaving it all to RBN.

More OK Go would be awesome. Of the Blue Color of the Sky is one of my all time favorite albums and it has so many interesting tracks with tons of crazy ass parts on them.

Just going through my iPhone for bands I really like that I don't remember being in Rock Band:

Arctic Monkeys - These guys are right at the top of the list, both alphabetically and in terms of how much I want them in RB.
Bloc Party
The Courteeners
Death (the 70s punk band) - This is probably impossible due to the master tapes, but it'd be awesome
Everclear - I bought Santa Monica right away, but I'd buy the entire album of So Much for the Afterglow.
fun.
Gym Class Heroes - These guys would be a good hip-hop/rap pick since they are an actual band. Good luck keeping up with Travis' rhyming though.
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - probably impossible since they are a cover band
Motion City Soundtrack - as mentioned above
NOFX
Reel Big Fish - nowhere near enough ska in RB
Streetlight Manifesto - more punk/ska
The Swellers - punk
Telekinesis - indie rock
The Wonders - That Thing You Do. A serious guilty pleasure of mine.

Don't think of those as specific requests (or do!), but as more of a general idea of my taste in music, and the genres in RB that are lacking. I guess RB never really took off in Europe like it did in the states? I say that because the lack of English bands always dumbfounds me. They're so awesome and their songs are such great fits for the game, but they NEVER show up as DLC. If I could pick just one genre to beef up in RB, it would be English rock, even ahead of punk/ska.

In my opinion there hasn't been enough hard rock. The last tracks that got me really excited were Hypnotize and Aerials by System. I haven't bought a new song in ages.

Other than a Rock Band: Tool edition, I'd like to see some:

Godsmack (Early Stuff)
A Perfect Circle (Pack of songs from Mer De Noms and 13th Step or full albums)
Alice in Chains (Old stuff)
Incubus songs (From Science or Make Yourself)
Scars on Broadway
Rammstein (Weidmans Heil, Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da, Mein Teil, Linkds 2 3 4 etc)

If you're still reading, I would really like to see some pop rock-ish tracks. Since you already have songs by Chicago, Roxette, Meat Loaf and Dire Straits I'd like to see more of those. Specific requests that would make my day and forever haunt my Rock Band mates would be "Sultans of Swing", "If I Can’t Have you", "Dangerous" and my most wanted: "You’re The Inspiration" and "I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)" (the long version, of course).

There are still loads of interesting classics I could get, but since I mostly play the keyboard I don't have such a huge selection.

You've pretty much nailed it on that older stuff. :) But we're always working to get great music from great, classic bands whose music haven't appeared in our games before. Obviously, we want some of that stuff as much as you do.

As for pre-RB3 stuff getting the RB3 treatment, I wouldn't necessarily count them out, but the focus is clearly on getting more and new music. But we'll see -- I agree that playing Freezepop tracks with keyboard support would be awesome!

Random tangent question nicholas: will Blitz load Hier Kommt Alex and Rock and Roll Star? Or does Blitz fall under the same restrictions on those songs as RB3 and we still have to load up RB1/2 to play those?

As of this week, there are officially more RBN downloads available in the game store than official content. Still don't know who has more discrete songs, with all the 2x and RB3 versions and such, but still.

More Smashing Pumpkins and Radiohead songs would be a good start.

Maybe something by The Naked and Famous, too.

I think its very easy to take the moaning on a board like this to heart, but compare it to the people buying the DLC as they are the happy ones and generally wont post about it here. Personally theres many weeks where im not interested but thats due to my tastes in music/tracks than any problem with whats being offered.

Personally i'd love some more Ska and punk stuff. Late 90's to early 2000's skate music. Basically anything off the THPS sound tracks would be an instant buy for me and im sure many other people out there is the feedback on the THPSHD remake is to to go by.

Imagine having Goldfinger - Super Man or Suicidal Tendencies Cyco Vision with Pro Guitar support. Its bands like these and many others that got a lot of people into learning guitar or drums. Im learning the guitar thanks to RB3 and its pro mode, i just wish i could create my own pro modes for songs not supported yet to be able to practise more.

Saying that it'd also be nice if some older tracks got Pro guitar and drums support, maybe it'd be best to have a vote on the website or facebook as to what tracks people would like support added to.

I also wish RBN had more bigger bands supporting it, we've had a few like Less Than Jake to name but one but theres so many other well known but more niche bands that really could have made a lot of money if they got behind it. Its also a shame there isn't a list of bands that don't want to be on RB3 and their reasons. Would help the false hope for some bands at least but i understand why its not done.

There's been tons of conversations about getting those 'major indie' artists involved in RBN more, even back when they were showing up periodically. Everything from Microsoft's relatively small payout, to insufficient sales, to various studios' business models, to bands just being stuck-up has been blamed at one point or another. All I know is, those bands generally don't respond to emails, 'garage' bands do, so... try and make the best of it.

Anyway, of note: we have the first Rock Band song with Japanese-language vocals. It's not entirely Japanese (I'm pretty sure I'll be hitting that mark down the road, nobody else is talking about doing that), but still something.

"Godzilla" by Blue Oyster Cult has a Japanese section that fucks me up every time. It's tradition that I sing it on our Rock Band evenings, even though it just ends up with me going "blarble warble" after the first few words.

Bah. I haven't listened to that one in forever, forgot all about it.

Probably not a popular request, but I'd love some Crush 40. The cheesy Sonic Adventure tunes please.

Paging Ozone.... :)

Man, I hate you. Crush 40 is not happening through me unless they apologize for being a bunch of dicks. Which won't happen.

I thought it was the label that was causing a problem (I'm faintly remembering this from something you said on the official Rock Band forums, so I could have it completely wrong)?

So you have to spend $550 to get all the cheevs? That's....kinda disturbing.

Technically the game comes with 100 DLC gamescore built in. The base 400 is all unlockable in Blitz with the base songs.

edit: also, exports

55 from Rock Band 1
90 from Rock Band 2
45 from Lego Rock Band
47 from Green Day

That gets you up to 237 out of 275.

If it is not too late to request tracks...

Gojira! Everything by Gojira. Please. Pretty please. (Xbox 360)

Since often the metal songs I buy are hit and miss in terms of being fun to play with plastic or not, I would pay like $9 a month to have access to all the metal songs in the library (not even including the RBN songs), should really switch to a subscription based model ASAP. I am sure the royalty system is a nightmare as it is so I am not surprised it is hard to change.

By the way I have had some annoying bugs - if I sort by leaderboard rank, when I finish a song in quick play I have to choose leaderboard rank again (it is not persistent).

You could spend less thanks to exports, but it's still kinda crazy.

Although I suppose it's nothing new; all of the previous games have required you to own all of the instruments to get them all.
