So playing to a well worn trope is somehow a good thing?
It's not about the relative daftness of the plot (yes they are all far fetched), it's about the relative daftness of the stages of the plot that's the issue. Think about the long winded route events took from the beginning of the film through to Silva attempting to assassinate M at the hearing, and realize that that was his intention. The whole crazy enterprise only works on the basis of absolute certainty as to the outcome at every stage (including him gambling that Bond wouldn't just double tap him at the first opportunity).

I don't necessarily concur with all of them, but it does highlight a lot of the films plot frailties. Still a better film than Quantity of Sausages, but not as good as Casino Royale bar the excellent Cinematography by Mr Deakins.
