Just finished watching the Bluray again. *sogood.gif* I think Ive enjoyed my two Bluray viewings even more than my two theatrical showings. It really does get better each time. One thing that really struck me this time was how great the ending was. It reminded me of Casino Royale in a lot of ways. In that movie, the Bond theme was never heard until the final frame, because Bond hadnt "earned it" yet. At the end of the movie though, he has finally become Bond, and the theme is unleashed. Same in Star Trek. Alexander Courage's theme isnt played throughout the movie, because this is the crew of the Enterprise before they became they crew fans know and love. But by the end of the movie, they have "earned it", and the theme erupts. What a rousing finish!

Either way, long story short: 2.5 years away :_(

I can dig it. I read an interview with Lindelof saying that they'll take their time, and that he'll also take longer writing the script. So, fine by me.

Lindelof needs to tell Orci and Kurtzman to GTFO in the meantime

You just know somehow we're gonna get Star Trek 2, District 10 and Avatar 2 all in 2012 :lol
according to Blomkamp, it might end up being District 8.5 :(

cannot wait to see where they take this. there are so many opportunities for interesting angles, playing off not only the fantastic cast, but using the alternate timeline to present old things in really new--and likely significantly altered--ways. i do hope, though, that the script is a bit better this time. considering how enjoyable the first was in spite of its completely wonky story, this cast + a good plot would be doper than soap on a rope.

You know, I used to be really against bringing Khan into the new franchise, but I've pretty much completely changed my mind about that. There's a lot of potential in the concept of Khan that was untapped by the two appearances in the old continuity, and they could keep the character roughly intact while taking him in new directions.

If they just remade Space Seed+Wrath of Khan, I'd be very unhappy. But done differently it could be really interesting.

Mayyyyyyybe. I'd still rather see a Klingon focused movie first, just to satisfy my itch. I've been watching Deep Space Nine, and the Klingon battle to open Season 4 wasn't even close to enough for me.

It was pretty damn big, though.

I'm confused, when you guys are talking about TOS Klingons and TNG Klingons, I assume you're talking about the Klingons from the TV show with the slanted eyebrows and goatees. Technically the TNG Klingons were just the redesigned Klingons from the Star Trek movies. If memory serves, the first time you see the new klingons is the opening seen of the first Star Trek, where they encouter veger and get blasted.

Damn, I'm not even a huge Trek fan and just dropped some serious nerd in this thread. Loved the Abrahms version though.

TNG added all the honor and samurai warrior BS, so when we refer to TNG Klingons, it's the whole package.

Either version of Klingon is cool with me though I know less about the TOS versions. When your battle cruiser looks like a weedeater, you're not fucking around.

TOS Klingons were just meaner humans. TNG Klingons are better.

I don't see Abrams booting any of the TNG stuff, so it doesn't really matter. I just want them pissed and at war.

I was watching the DVD commentary earlier today and it was really nice to hear how the movie evolved and what was cut and what wasn't. Having watched it again, the cinematography in the film is just stunning. Truly beautiful.

They also showed the CG shots in space with, and without flares and let me just say that without those flares the movie would be unrecognisable. It added a HUGE amount of realism to the scenes.

In the future, super-bright lense flares is realistic.

No.

It means the future is bright, and when you look at it with today's cameras, it would be so bright the camera won't be able to handle it.

That is why the lens flares are so brilliant. They are actually part of the story.

Recently watched this again and I can't get enough of it. I end up watching it once every month or so. Great quality on blu-ray too. The CGI integration is phenomenal and done intelligently. What sort of recording apparatus were used?

It was incredibly poorly thought out and insulting to anyone with intelligence. I don't understand how anyone could like it.

It's not even a "oh Kirk can never be replaced" thing, it was just a fucking awful script.

Fair enough. But I never said anything about the writing. ;)

Whatever. The story was one of the parts that made this Star Trek so good. Especially it's writing.

What didn't you like about the script, other than it erasing every Trek series except Enterprise?

Can't stop watching this film. The first 15-20 minutes is art. I was just listening to the DVD directors commentary and JJ said the decision to use that score for the intro was a last-minute change. Can you believe that? It's a sign, people. It's a freaking sign that we have the right man at helm.

Didn't want to start a new thread, so......does anyone else find it a bit odd that the sequel comes out next summer and there hasn't been ANY news about it yet? An effects heavy film like this will have a lengthy post-production cycle, so principal photography would need to take place in the next 6 months or so. Yet there hasn't been any word of a script or director let alone casting.

Either J.J. Abrams is doing his usual rounds of making stuff overly mysterious, or it may be delayed.

Paramount has been delaying it's sequels it seems for some time now. They have been talking about sequels to various films like Trek, GI Joe, etc but they just keep getting pushed back. Casting wise I assume most everyone is signed into contracts already for the sequels so they can just toss on some bad guy at the last minute.

Isn't JJ not going to really be involved in this one?
