Meh... I think the default camera placement is sublime.
I wasn't simply giving my opinion there. If it was just my opinion, i would have said nothing. Literally everyone that is good enough at GX uses the camera that i mentioned. The consensus is that it's the best camera. I'm pretty sure that it has been proven that the default camera is bad. The one that i mentioned is clearly better. If you're used to the default one, it will take time to get used to the other one but, once you do, you'll never look back. Personally, i used the default camera for many years, and i though that it was perfectly fine. But, believe me, you can change.
In any case, you can ask anyone that you trust more than me like, for example, Madao. I'm sure that he'll tell you the same
edit:
Everything you said is the complete opposite of reality. Playing in first person in VR gives you much better ability to perceive what is coming up next.
lets make something clear. You may have a lot of experience with VR, but i don't, and i haven't played GX on a VR headset. So, i'm just making assumptions
I have experience with GX and i don't see how the ability of looking around on that first person camera could help. In fact, moving the head around (i.e. not looking in a straight line) would make things even worse. Furthermore, in a game like GX, there's no time for looking around and driving properly at the same time. You need a fix camera that gives you a broad view of the circuit at all times and that allows you to see your ship and the other ships, so you can concentrate on driving properly. First person camera is completely useless in GX.
"Everything you said is the complete opposite of reality"
i think that that's not true, because one of the things that i said was that "there's 0% chance of you driving as good as you can". In GX, it's imposible to get better times using the first person camera. The idea that someone would even try that is laughable.
What i'm saying is that, if for VR, i have to use GX first person camera, i don't see how that's going to make things easier.
