Besides playing any game in 4k 160hz with max settings is a different game even if its a console hand me down game

This point will NEVER get across to some people. It's 100% the reason I fully moved over to PC gaming while the PS5 barely gets used. The best version of a game, often times by a wide stretch is routinely exclusive to pc. I also enjoy replaying the PS ports on PC cause as you said it always feels like I'm experiencing a game I loved all over again due to the improvements.

Well. The benchmarks are our and they are impressive. Still doesn't excuse the price though even with the significantly better rtx performance. And dlss is kind of bad when it comes to extra frames. But this is cool.

Hardware Unboxed's 13 game average is a good indicator of overall performance gains.

4090 is:
59% Faster than the 3090Ti
72% Faster than the 3090 - True test gen on gen
98% Faster than the 3080

In Comparison, the 3090 was 57% faster than the 2080Ti.... that gen's flagship xx90 equivalent. So pretty much on par with last gen's gains.

Not quite the 2x-4x they promised but they did say it would be with DLSS so for standard rasterization performance to be this good is very impressive.

Mods are amazing, I'm playing Zelda:BotW on my ultrawide monitor @ 4k with a bunch of qol mods and having played it before on Switch its a night and day difference.

I played Witcher 3 when I built my first pc and having already beaten it multiple times on consoles I went nuts with mods and again it was like experiencing it for the first time.

I'm trying really hard to hold off for the 50 series but the 40 series is a pretty big upgrade from my 2080ti. I'll see how the 4080ti performs assuming it gets a release and go from there. I'm fine with the 2080ti as I usually don't play brand new games, but shit like RDR2, Cyberpunk and a few others are getting to the age I tend to scoop them up on sale and I know those games will push things. Starfield and Forza Motorsport coming out in the next year. I anticipate Starfield to run like ass, being a new Gamebryo variant game and I expect to want to run Motorsport as well as I possibly can and judging from the Maple Valley trailer max settings with full RT should be pretty taxing.

Although the price is very high, it's price/performance is actually good.

It does lower frames per dollar from the card it directly replaces, but is still higher than other cards from the past generation of GPUs. Not the way it typically worked out in the past. But, anything better than complete stagnation is improvement over recent GPUs. The 4080 might revert to complete stagnation on frames per dollar though (compared to 3080), depending on how much better it can perform than the 3090ti. The 4080 would need 125 frames here to break even with the 3080, which would still be a poor showing considering that wouldn't even be an uplift per dollar from last gen.

It's big but the size makes sense seeing how much more it has to cool, 2kliksphillip said that it runs quieter than a rtx 3090 so that size makes sense.
Frankly I would have preferred if they shipped a version with no air cooler but instead an AIO. That would save so much space on the card

This card seems to be an absolute beast. But we really need a mainstream game changer. A next gen RX 470/ 480. Something that soundly beats PS5 series X performance for 180/200/220 USD. Should be feasible 2 years into the console lifecycle already.

FSR2.1 is already a pretty good alternative. AMD's standard rasterization performance was already really good and very competitive to 3000 series cards in most games.

The problem is that they refused to drop the price even when getting outsold by Nvidia. I saw so many Radeon cards just sitting on shelves at Microcenter during the supposed shortage. No one was buying them because they were being marked up by $400-500. This was AMD's chance to really penetrate the market and simply move a lot of units but they chose profits over market penetration.

They will do the same with the 7000 series cards. Expect the 7800xt to be $999 minimum.

Still, I missed few games that I know will run great on 4090. Dying Light 2 looks like a good pick for a first game to play. Upcoming DLC to Cyberpunk should look good. And 2023 is stacked with promising titles. There's always something to play.

This is an insane turn of events. My 3080 12 GB used to consume over 400 watts. I literally had to return it because it was crashing in the Matrix demo and RDR2, and I couldnt figure out if it was due to the higher power consumption or not. Settled for a 320 Watt 10 GB 3080 and it doesnt crash, but its still 320 watts.

Going 4nm seems like the right move here. Wish consoles did the same for mid gen refreshes.

This is just halo infinite's optimization being super trash

being cpu limited at 105 frames with top end CPU is just comical. the game has nothing going on about it to justify such insane CPU boundness at such a framerate

This card is truly a 4k120+ card and that makes me happy. We're talking enthusiast level gaming. For 1440p and lower it becomes diminishing so let's not kid ourselves or drive by troll.

A card like this isn't for everyone but for those of use who want to take advantage of 4k high refresh panels. I have a 4k120 83"C1 and 4k144 Odyssey G8 28". They are pleased by stuff like this.

Now to offload this 3090.

Very powerful card indeed but other than the super high FPS, DLSS 3.0 does not seem all that great.

If I understood DF correctly, Nvidia recommand using DLSS 3.0 with uncap frame-rate and V-Sync is automatically disabled when 3.0 is on.
That means the card will go full throttle no matter what even if you only need 60 or 120 (depending on you display) and induce screen tearing even on a Nvidia G-Sync monitor.

You can enable V-Sync through Nvidia Control Panel but it may create more latency and even camera stutters with some games.

Great tech for running benchmarks I guess, but if your aiming at 4k/RT/60 locked or 4k/RT/120 locked, DLSS 3.0 might not be so great just yet.
