People want Iron Fist to be Asian because they're tired of isms.
lol.
Shang-chi bruhs.

is this the guy who's married to buffy?
Moon Knight would make a pretty freaking crazy TV show. I've wanted it since they announced these street-level Netflix shows.Maybe it's a surprise Moon Knight announcement.
Imagine a Moon Knight show taking visual inspiration from the Ellis run.
Changing Iron Fist into an Asian honestly looks worse in my opinion because it then plays right into a stereotype

Martial arts dudes are always asian...duhh!!!
Because it's martial arts based and they stereotyped it in their head that it has to be an Asian.
This too.Or, and I'm just speculating here, it's about the cringe I feel in my soul when I think about all those magical Asian side characters in a show about eastern mysticism and martial arts - being led by a blonde haired, blue eyed white dude.
why would you want an asian guy to play Iron Fist?
Why wouldn't you just make the series about Shang-Chi in that case?

So he's supposed to be a Kung Fu superhero? Why can't they get a Chinese-American to play the part...

Marvel has no meaningful Asian characters. This was their best shot.
Just because you don't care about Shang Chi doesn't mean that Marvel should have to completely change Danny Rand

The reason for going with an Asian guy is simple: there aren't anyfloating around, and the important thing about Iron Fist's origin isn't his skin color- it's that he's culturally American and a fish out of water.good male Asian heroes
This thread has certainly been eye-opening into how many people have ever actually read Iron Fist.
Nothing, but a few people feel like this:Why were people assuming an Asian guy would get the part? Is there anything at all that would have lead them to that conclusion?
But it's not going to happen.I'm just so tired of the Mighty Whitey trope that I really hope the Marvel-Netflix version of Iron Fist change the ethnicity.
How on earth does his race changing affect him? He needs to be a) Culturally American, and b) have a rich family.Just because you don't care about Shang Chi doesn't mean that Marvel should have to completely change Danny Rand
I meant in the MCU.Tom Wu - Hundred Eyes - Marco Polo on Netflix
Did not expect it to be what it was.

Hmm, so much for getting an Asian guy to play Iron Fist.

It has been amusing so far.
I can easily see Ryan as Danny Rand
Fair enough. To avoid both tropes the only reasonable solution is to make Iron Fist Hispanic.
What age are they going for? I assumed he would be younger?

Quake, who's practically the main character of Agents of SHIELD, is Asian though.Marvel has no meaningful Asian characters. This was their best shot.
The argument is that orientalism is overdone in Western media and has some sort of western superiority undertones to it. People were more asking for an Asian-AMERICAN to play a hero and a title character, not just an Asian, which Shang-Chi would be.This would remove one of the more interesting things about Iron Fist and his backstory.
This could easily be casting for anybody on the two remaining Netflix Marvel shows. I mean, these aren't shows with a single character.
So, what suggests it's Danny Rand other than blonde hair?
So he's supposed to be a Kung Fu superhero? Why can't they get a Chinese-American to play the part...

If it's between that and the Mighty Whitey trope, it's an easy decision. So because he knows Kung Fu he's gotta be Chinese? Sounds a little suspect to me dawg.
