For the record, I'm not making a big deal out of her free e-mail preference, it was more to do with the fact that she's using Yahoo at all. I'd be just as surprised if she was using G-mail. I'd think there would be better choice for a public official, even if it is there personal account. But, if as you say, there are a lot of elected officials that do this, then color me surprised. Doesn't seem to be very secure. But oh well, what do I know about the e-mail addresses of public officials, aside from the fact that I'd never advise them to do this.

And to be clear, I also understand that they need a separation between their personal accounts and their work ones. That should go without saying.
Why are you so surprised someone would use a Yahoo account? From everything I've read the insecurity of this situation was due to a weak password. What makes you think some local ISP (which would be the next logical choice for a personal email address) is going to be more secure than Yahoo or G-mail?

If you're so boggled by the idea that an individual would use a free provider for email, who, besides spammers, do you think is using all those accounts the providers claim?

Meh, this is dumb.
I'm not a Palin fan, but this is below the belt...

Who wouldn't look silly if you had a peek through their private email?

If there's nothing juicy, all it's going to do is allow this incompetent candidate to garner sympathy votes.

These people are just feeding the fire for the repubs. McCain Palin is now instoppable. And fyi - to say palin is incompetant while supporting obama is spectacularly hilarious.

*sigh* Again, I'm not surprised that people use these e-mail systems. I have a G-Mail account. What I am surprised about is that PUBLIC FIGURES would use one for their personal mail. It's far too easy to search around these kinds of systems to find personal addresses, and while a local ISP may not be necessarily more secure, they aren't well known either, and offer a bit of security through obscurity.

But never mind. We've beat this dead horse. Sucks that her Yahoo account got hacked.

Palin isn't incompetent. She's very good at being a corrupt nutjob.

Spectacularly hilarious? Instoppable?

Anyway, this was stupid, these guys are going to find that they aren't so anonymous pretty f'in soon.

Damn - instoppable - idiot. I sound as young as most of you are...
whatever Junior. Please post what this great mayor who left her town of 9,000 in debt has done that makes her so much more competent than someone who has been running a historic presidential campaign for the last 19 months. We'll wait.

Wait a sec, I just read Anonymous did this. The anonymous from 4Chan? That's so fucked up -_-

That was actually a joke made by a Mccain adviser.

I know. Well, it wasn't really a joke, and I got the point of the statement. The advisor was implying that McCain had helped pass legislation that helped open the telecommunications industry and paved the way fro the Blackberry, but the media ran with the story as if he said he helped invent the damn thing.

Whoa! Once your babysitter finds out you've been chatting on the internet, she's gonna ground you for good!

4chan.

Somewhat original again.

And not even the FBI can kill Anonymous. They're everywhere... Probably have a few in the goverment. :lol

It's a somewhat valid point as Obama is also fairly inexperienced, comparatively.

Well I've said much on the matter, but there's no hypocrisy in the statement.

Because one is an actual incompetent who is one of the most SPECTACULARLY (lol word of the day) unqualified candidates in history, not because of her lack of experience but because of her lack of intelligence, lack of knowledge, lack of honesty, lack of honor who is on the ticket of a POW POW POW candidate who believes in the literally satanic approach of implying your rival panders sex to little children. This from a candidate who believes you shouldn't be able to have an abortion even in the case of rape.

This is in contrast to Obama, of course, who has run one of the most brilliant political campaigns in US history toppling one of the most powerful Democratic brands while demonstrating his competence in something like 592 debates.

Nice. How much are apple pies these days? In your experience, do most people supersize? I appreciate your service.

That might have been true, before a little thing known as the Patriot Act came along.

Expect armed soldiers to bust into their houses at 4 in the morning.

Obama is not comparatively inexperienced, despite the Republican propaganda.

Public figures are people too, they have to get their personal email somewhere. The nice thing about free providers is that their disposable. The account starts getting too much spam or unwanted attention and you can just give the new address to the people you want to hear from.

Oh and, security through obscurity never works.

Oh they will, unless the hacker used a public computer in a different state.

It's not about experience here, it's about what they stand for and what they believe.

Atleast Obama understands global warming is man made and that Iraq has nothing to do with 9/11 unlike Palin's declared in her speech for her son.

The problem isn't experience per se--arguably, Palin has greater experience, having held executive office both as Mayor and Gov'nor, and this is to her credit. It's obvious however that while the knowledge gained via Palin's terms in the executive has been closely tied to the peculiarities of Alaska governance, Obama holds a far greater breadth of knowledge when it comes to issues of national and international scope, arguably the bulk of what a President deals with. Frankly there are holes in both candidates' resumes, and since his opponent is actually John McCain and not Sarah Palin, overall the experience issue does not play out in his favor.

Edit: oh, and Yahoo! has a good email client, stop being Google Whores.

You can't kill them. They don't really exist in any one place. They like to hang around 4chan, but there's over 9000 other sites they visit as well.

They're like roaches.

I agree, Yahoo! isn't really bad. If you want to complain about horrible e-mail Windows Live is shit, it is barely compatible with Firefox.

Russia's secret services would never hack Palin's Yahoo e-mail account when she's president amirite?

It's not like she would use it for state business amirite?

I appreciate your argument and the hysteria with which you present it. Let's look closer at your links:

Link 1: "i do not have permission to view page" nice gaf.
Link 2: The Bush Doctrine - something that is ambiguously defined at best. You can see a smug Gibson nearly jump out of his seat with glee in this "gotcha" moment. This is not a good illustration of incompetence unless you are pointing that finger at Gibson for his inability to ask a question as a responsible journalist.
Link 3: What does the VP do? Good question? To take this as Palin having no comprehension of what the vice president does because she lacks brain power is ridiculous. Desperation much?
Link 4: I don't understand your point.
Link 5: Transferring Colleges? Are you serious? What does this have to do with anything? Desperaaaaaaation.
Link 6: Nuanced political speak re: Iraq.
Link 7: I agree with this - her continual discussion of the bridge to nowhere and her flip-flop on this issue bothers me. Leave it alone palin this is not a winning topic.
Link 8: Community Organizer: Hilarious little jab @ the convention. This would hurt any prima donna.
Link 9: Super POW Bros: infantile.
Link 10: Ads - I hate these on both sides. You overstate this though.
Link 11: Many of us share his stance on the right to life.

Re: Obamas brilliant campaign. You are right, it is incredible that he was able to defeat the Clinton machine. Obama is a great speaker, very motivating and inspirational. However, as the polls reflect, there is a large traditional chuck of America that does not want to socialize our nation.

You have to be kidding about the Bush doctrine link. She should know what the bush doctrine was. He just asked the question. If she answered it right there would have been no problem. I forgot about the media being on big librul spin machine though.

While comparatively, you're right, the idea that either is "experienced" is laughable. For any non-entry level job, you need five to seven years experience.

Obama has a little over three and a half years as a U.S. Senator. Four and a half years ago he was an unknown state legislator who was running a distant third in Illinois' U.S. Senate primary.

Palin has a little over a year and a half as a state governor. Four and a half years ago, she was a washed up politician and political arena hanger-on.

Being the mayor of some small 6,000 population berg doesn't qualify you to be President. Neither does being a state senator. City councilman or community organizer? Please. All those positions are so wildly incomparable to the Presidency that it's a joke any of them are even mentioned on either of their resumes. It's like applying for a management job five years out of college and putting down that you were the president of the debate club in high school. I mean, those positions are a part of their overall biographies, but no one should be citing them to prove they're experienced.

If anything, it's Obama's time as a constitutional law lecturer and Palin's time as Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission chair that impress me the most on either of their skimpy resumes. Those are positions that actually have some relevance to the job. Constitutional law is pretty obvious, and the commission position is like a cabinet-level type office.

Of course the real issue gets completely overlooked. What is the governor of Alaska doing discussing state matters over yahoo? What happens to govt accountability? Don’t the people of Alaska deserve their state matters to be discussed over govt email account which are archived for a reason.

The issue isn't her having a yahoo account. It’s the fact that it gives a strong appearance of trying to avoid accountability.

This worries me as well. GM will soon be crawling to Washington looking for the same type of bailout. This will only get worse and it doesn't seem like the bailouts are the answer.
