The vegan character is one of my favorites so far and I'm so glad that nearly all of the sneak preview impressions say that Routh nailed it. So fucking funny in the comic.

one of my favorite fight scenes in the film. superdude definitely nails the "vegan douche" vibe.

Wow that's awesome.

...I haven't read any of the comics but that frame by frame really makes me want to :lol

What, you dont know what your missing! Go out and buy the first two or so volumes and read it, I thought it was awesome and I think the movie stands as a testament to it.

started re-reading the books today

came across this very representative pair of panels

I'm a big fan of comics, and this one is one of my favorites. But, Scott is not a mild mannered awkward guy, he's a big kid who doesn't allow the mature situations he's dragged into make him grow up. I don't know if Cera can do it.

good news: he did!

oh man that mario reference? that was a good one.

us gamers.

do you really call yourself a gamer? i imagine GAF backlash will be consistent with your mindset, that this is something both pandering and offensive to y'all HARDCORE GAMERZ but what adult male wants to be a HARDCORE GAMER?

we're just guys who grew up doing many things (video games among them) and were in many relationships (failed ones, mostly). high fidelity made you remember your old relationships by relating them to your record collection. scott pilgrim makes you remember your old relationships by relating them to your childhood video game memories.

never heard of high fidelity and never had a relationship i'm afraid

too hardcore

high fidelity is an incredible book that you should read immediately following your first heart break.

nothing against videogame references but that seems a little corny.

would people really associate a question like that with super mario

yeah for a comic that strives for realism and believability this exchange really took me out of it

that's just scott's ADD. it's not associating that with mario.

dementia, you're not being serious, right?

also, no one in their right mind would make that connection... that would be absurd. though the joke is obviously "item" as a dating couple = "item" as a power up if you really didn't get it.

but what is entirely too true is the exchange itself. when you're casually hooking up with a girl and then a mutual friend prompts the whole "so you guys are dating now" issue . i feel like most like-minded dudes would blank out for a sec.

i'm not talking about the realism of it but if people are supposed to relate to it in some fashion I don't get it

that's OK! it's intentional - not EVERYONE will relate to it.,, which is why the people in here are so enamored with the series: because it relates to them.

Eegra reference.

This movie looks awesome. Michael Cera is annoying but he seems to have toned down the MIchael Cera-ness so I can deal. I can't wait to see this shit, but to be honest I never heard of this until I saw the trailer on albotas a few days ago. I'm gonna try to order everything and read it this weekend.

Looks so good.

Exactly! Scott Pilgrim is filled with geeky references, but it's one of the only comics of its kind that doesn't feel awkward or forced. It's just fantastic writing non-stop.

Yeah, people with sticks up their asses usually don't relate well with harmless silly video game sight gags. I guess you're out of luck, friend.

Empire's trailer breakdown with Edgar Wright

Music will dominate Scott Pilgrim - Scott plays bass for a group called Sex Bob-omb, one of Ramona's evil exes has his own band, and Wright has assembled a soundtrack that's so on the cutting edge there's a danger of lopping its own feet off. Take the two songs on the trailer, for example.

Wright: They're both Beck tracks, written for the film and they're not available in any other form yet. The second one is one of the Sex Bob-omb songs, without the lyrics. The second one is called Threshold, the first one I'm not at liberty to reveal.
Not all of Ramona's exes are male... much to Scott's consternation. Meet Roxy Richter, a half-ninja who can move through subspace, has weight issues and says things like 'Prepare to die… obviously!' Obviously.

Wright: This is Mae Whitman. She's such an incredible talent. Along with Mary and most of the actors, Mae did a lot of her own stuntwork. She's just incredible. Her fight scene is amazing.

Jon Bones: any opinion on Kim Pine? I've had this odd comic-crush on her since I read The Wonderful World of Kim Pine.

(that was a free comic handed by Mr O'Maley @ Comics Festival '07, BTW)

I love that comic so dang much.
