Smooth move OP. I have to admit I'm considering trading my 360 in for Wii U for my son (X1 owner already). I grew up on Mario, Zelda and DK. I'd like my son to have those sorts of experiences too. Any idea what EB games trade in a Slim 250Gb for these days?
Also having a Halo multiplayer to play is the only thing stopping me from trading in the ol' 360 ATM.

I joined the club on Saturday (didn't get to play it til Sunday). I can't stand the OS, but man, the games are pretty amazing. Super Mario 3D World is actually better than I had heard. I bought DK, Pikmin, and the console came with the NSMBU + Luigi AND TW101 is on its way from Amazon. Good times ahead.

Its cheap, the screen protector will spare your screen from unintentional scratches and you will LOVE the fat stylus
Hey, thanks man! I hate the little stylus that comes with the Wii U, and I was joke wondering like an hour ago if there was a bigger one designed for it. I could also use a screen protector, so this is great.

I just have to add, if you're a Bond fan, you can get the Bond game on WiiU for about $10. It's essentially a CoD - 007 type game, but it has classic 4 player splitscreen Goldeneye style multiplayer.

And then threads like this pop up and there are _so many_ good games to recommend it's silly. In my household we've played the s**t out of our Wii U since Christmas. 3D World, NSMB U, NSLB U, 101, DK: TF, NintendoLand and that's just the Wii U games.
There are plenty of Wii games we've thrown in as well. Played through DKCR while getting pumped for tropical freeze, re-beat Galaxy 2 for kicks. Hell last weekend I beat Zelda NES again on WII U VC because I wanted to try VC on the gamepad. It was fun, and savestates for VC games? Pretty sweet for NES classics.
Meanwhile, my PS4 has seen less action. Awesome for Netflix. Strider was fun. NBA 2K looks and plays fantastic. But you know what? No Nintendo games.
Enjoy your Wii U, it's got its flaws but man it's fun.

If you get an extended battery pack I'd stick with the official Nintendo one from their web store. The Nyko battery pack was a piece of shit that never held a charge.

The "Wii U is done" thing is not unfounded. It's sales are terrible. But you have plenty of people on GAF who like it, and nobody is pretending there aren't some great Nintendo games.

I keep thinking about buying one, but there simply aren't enough games I'm interested in. Very much unlike the 3DS, which has ridiculous variety. Super Mario 3D World seems cool, but I've never played a Mario game so I don't know if it's the best place to start. I probably would've bought both a 3DS and Wii U if Nintendo's relationship with Amazon was still intact...
I can see why people'd be frustrated from sales, but also if they bought the Wii U at launch. I bought mine when the WW HD bundles were first out, so the drought from launch til then actually became extra games to fulfill the relative droughts afterwards.

If you approach it for what it is - a Nintendo first party box - it's a fun little console with some enjoyable games. I have had tons of fun with New Super Mario Bros U and Pikmin 3.

#1 must have Wii U game: Super Mario 3D World. The reason to buy a Wii U, and even better if you have friends to play local co-op.
#2 must have Wii U game: Wonderful 101. If you want an experience like no other (well no other I've played), get this game. It's difficult and has a steep learning curve, but once things click, you'll feel bad for not having played this sooner.
#3 thing you should do: Buy Earthbound on VC. If you've never played it, it's an absolute must play, one of the best RPG's and SNES games of all time. In fact I'd recommend it over the two games above this if you have any interest in RPG's at all. If you have played it before, buy it anyway, as every sale brings us slightly closer to the possibility of Mother 3 in the west. #Believe
Optional:
1. Nintendoland-If you have friends you can play locally with, Nintendoland is a must have; it's an absolute blast.
2. Rayman Legends-If you haven't played this on another console already, I highly recommend the Wii U version. If you like platformers, this is right up your alley.

If you need party games, Spin the Bottle is good. It's family friendly too despite its art style.

-May fundamentally dislike action games of that variety: gameplay centric and designed with the expectation of replaying things; story secondary, exploration practically nonexistent for most common definition.
-May be driven insane by aesthetics of the game
-May remain ignorant of the cooler shit you can do because of how little in the way of instruction is readily available.
-may simply find that the particular gameplay systems don't click with them
-Absolutely sick to death of kamiya's space harrier interludes.
Of those I only can sympathize with the final one.

No reason to rush out and buy Wonderful 101. There's a demo. Try before you buy. It's a divisive game. Anyone who attempts to talk you out of merely trying the game is not looking out for you, but instead is looking out for the sales of the game.
Go into 3D World with low expectations.

I'll join you once they release the new Zelda and if said Zelda is good and not like Skyward Sword in any way but that is my subjective opinion.
The fat stylus will feel 100 times better, that I guarantee
Even tapping the screen feels somehow more solid/responsive.
Screen protector is also quality stuff. Quite durable too, considering I like to draw on the thing in Art Academy.

I just managed to snag a Wii U premium with the ZombiU bundle (with the Pro controller) for a good price brand new from eBay. I kept thinking should I? Shouldn't I? to all the recent deals/bundles that have recently been going around but I ended up deciding too late since all the good deals are now back to normal. When I saw the eBay listing I decided screw it lets just buy one. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has been tempting me with its soundtrack and speed-run videos and there's quite a few games I've been wanting to play.
The upcoming titles like Smash Bros. Mario Kart 8 etc. that sealed the deal for me. Now what I want to know is.. as a new Wii U owner what do I need?
I'm quite protective of my consoles so does the Gamepad need a case? Which screen protector is best? Should I pick up a Wiimote+? High-capacity battery?.. I've got ZombiU obviously, and I also got Windwaker HD as well as Rayman Legends. Super Mario 3D world and DKC:TF will be bought soon. What am I missing? What eShop titles are worth the time? How do I go about linking my 3DS XL if that is even a thing? Is there a GAF friend code doc?
I'm excited to finally jump back onto a Nintendo home console.. Now just gimme a Pokemon MMO!
The high capacity battery is nice. I don't use the pro controller because I like the advantage of the gamepad (even for simple things like inventory) Others like it though.

Are GAF the only ones who bought TW101 or something? Considering how poorly it sold it's getting mad rep, it's well deserved though. TW101, SM3DW & Pikmin 3 are all GOAT. Anything else is secondary.

If you like Puzzle games, then check out Dr. Luigi! It's got a new mode where it has L shaped blocks, and it's a lot faster than the classic Dr. Mario style.

OP, aside from Wonderful 101 you'll need Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, fucking Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, maybe even Nintendo Land for awesome multiplayer fun.
Recommended eShop titles are Duck Tales Remastered, Nano Assault NEO, Giana Sisters, Runner 2 and Little Inferno.
It DOES have a Demon's/Dark Souls-ish help feature though. After a certain point in the game you can leave graffiti in form of symbols that warn or help you about your close environment.
