Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate |OT|

Your level goes back to level 1, but from the video, it looks like you can keep some items and equipment.
If you return to the starting towns without dying, you can bank items and money.

Later on, you can tag equipment for 2/3k. If you die, this gear will show up at the second town, albeit sometimes at a price.

Sounds like a good game. I've just bought it. Will be nice to play on lunch breaks at work. What are the review like from those who've played the Japanese version?

Played it a bit, so far it's your usual Mystery Dungeon game, not that it's a bad thing.
One thing irks me though, it's a pet peeve of mine : the text speed sucks, even when you activate the skip text option.

This also cements my impression that Matsuo would be a worthy successor to Sugiyama. I honestly thought this was a Sugiyama soundtrack and had to look it up.

So, the game will come with all those JP extra dungeons?

The last dungeon that was added by a patch (1.06) was crazy hard and awesome.

So, is it true there is no actual wi-fi? I bought a Vita TV and Shiren due to how much time I invested in the Ds version. I was hoping I could rescue people or vice versa, but doesn't ad hoc mean you can only rescue friends who also own it?

This is something I am wondering too as everyone is mentioning the rescue system but talking about other features being ad-hoc only.

Was totally going to order this off of Amazon today, but now see there is a LE. What to do!? Still leaning towards Amazon since I have Prime, but I'm a sucker for unique display boxes.

EDIT: Ah, the display box is for the bracelet, not the game. Probably will stick with standard version.

Really wanting this but $40 is too steep for me now. I'll have to wait a few weeks. I really love the style of it though! Almost tempted to just get the old DS one but I'd really like to support this game.

Do you not have the DS game? You should really pick it up, if not. It's like $10. Grab this one down the road.

I have the game and can confirm some multiplayer details now.

Coop and versus are ad hoc only, but rescues DO allow for ad-hoc, WiFi, and password based connections.

You can even search for people just among your PSN friends or by the most recent rescue requests.

What I'm saying is if you want to be rescued add me on PSN at DandyCrocodile ;P

Aren't they the same game essentially? I'd read somewhere that this was a remake of the DS one and I don't want to get burnt out on it.

I had this pre-ordered since it was announced, but just canceled a couple days ago because of how many Spike Chunsoft games are getting PC ports (my preferred platform). I'll probably wait a couple months to see if there's any rumors about a PC port, and if not I'll probably pick it up when there's a PSN sale.

Would this be a good starting place for the series? Or should I play the English-language DS port of the SFC game first?

The game is up on PSN now. Hit me up at Starhowler because I already know I'm going to be spending as much time rescuing people as I can. \o/

No, the DS game is a remake of the 1st game, which was a SNES title. There was a 2nd game for DS which was a remake of Shiren 2 for GBC. That was never released here.

Shiren 3 was a Wii game that was also ported to PSP, but only the Wii version released in the West.

Shiren 4 was a new game for DS. Also not released in the West.

This is Shiren 5, a brand new entry ported to Vita from the DS and the third Shiren to be released in the U.S.

Minor correction: Shiren 5 was a DS game, remastered for Vita which is the version we finally got.

I corrected the post, thank you.

Ugh, no PS Plus discount for NA?

You know, I was super set to buy this but if there's no launch discount I might have to wait and pick up EDF 4.1 while it's on sale for $20.

I'm in! Lovely title screen, with the cranes flying past. This sure is a funky tower.

You have to support these awesome releases, d00d. This is for the fans.

This is my first experience with the series. Does it have a vague narrative like spelunky or something more in depth?

This is my first experience with the series. Does it have a vague narrative like spelunky or something more in depth?

I asked the sales team internally and they said Amazon Canada should be receiving it tomorrow. Sorry for the wait!

The story is light, gameplay is more so the focus as is the modus operandi for rogue-likes, but there is an overarching story line that will be enough to keep you interested :)

Also, if you notice the text at the start of the game, Shiren The Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate (the 5th game in the series) actually takes place right after the events of Shiren The Wanderer DS2: Magic Castle of the Desert.

Shiren The Wanderer DS2: Magic Castle of the Desert was originally on Gameboy Color and was a direct sequel to Shiren The Wanderer 2: Demon Invasion! Shiren Castle! on N64, which takes place when Shiren is a child.

Theres definitely more story than Spelunky. It's not super involved so far though.

Had £30 credit lying around on my PSN account, picked this up along with 10 Second Ninja X. Quality Vita gaming at quality prices.

FYI, download size is a mere 400Mb, so it should fit practically any memory card.

Just picked up my copy from Gamestop. I remember playing the Japanese demo and immediately wanting the game to get localized.

Also, just to note, all the DLC dungeons from the Japanese version of the game are automatically in the US/EU versions from the get go, so hope everyone has fun with them! :)

Okay, so from what I've seen now that I'm actually in the Tower of Fortune is that WiFi rescues arent available until then.
So while you're collecting the dice you CAN request for aid, but aid is adhoc only and basically consist of somebody sending you their revival item.

So

Aid = adhoc only. Somebody sends you an item which you then use to resume exploring where you left off.
Rescue = adhoc/wifi/password. Can't ask for rescue until you hit the Tower of Fortune. When somebody rescues you they have to find you in the dungeon and resuscitate you, thereby allowing you to resume your journey and send them a thank you note + gift.

It's the
Famitsu
dungeon ;)
Awesome, thanks!

Got my first dice. Is the room next to the hotel for storage? I skipped the text when I entered the room and missed what it said.

Just got the "Pot, Where Art Thou?" trophy... On accident

Tried to throw a synthesis pot to smash it and get my newly powered up items but I had the cannon arm accessory attached which just made it keep sailing over the wall until it vanished. Thanks. Now I'm without a shield. :p

First death. Died on the 7th floor of Tower of Fortune. Next to the stairs. :__: Night mode is brutal and I love how tense it is. Also got two Super torches extinguished by the same rust trap lmao (wasn't paying attention)

Also, it seems what the fortune teller tells you actually comes true? Came across him and he told me something about terrible luck with traps. Then I noticed the whole floor was littered with traps.

Lol, I'll try to remember that tidbit.

Once I completely forgot I was in an outdoor floor in the tower and threw a pot at a wall. Except there are no walls in such floors and it vanished down to the surface xD Not making that mistake again.
