Sleeping Dogs PC Performance Thread

The frame drops while driving are really weird. They don't seem to have anything to do with streaming, it looks like it has to do with whether a car is moving at all. I can be parked and be at 60fps, then just simply start moving the car a bit and the frame rate will go down, and then it returns to 60 the moment the car stops.

Hopefully it gets patched.

Found out why advanced graphic settings won't save.

Make your settings in the advanced tab.
Accept those settings.
Go back to the previous menu (takes a few seconds).
There, go back to the main menu BUT do not save now.
Should work.

Downloading this now along with the high res textures.

Hoping to get at least a smooth 30 fps with some high settings. Got the 305.53 drivers as well.

phenom II 3.2 ghz x4
GTX 480
4gb ddr3

no OC'ing

Looking at a lot of the benchmark screenshots even high end machines seem to dip fairly low. Where does this occur in game? Is it often? Most seem to report a smooth experience, hoping for the same. Driving seems weird, fps wise, it seems.

Anyone else having trouble taking screenshots with SLI and the newest bits? Bandicam, FRAPS and Dxtory just turns out black.

Weirdly I get a bit of stuttering whenever Wei changes clothes or is buying new clothes at a store.

yup, oddly enough 1 screenshot came out ok. will have to wait for the game or afterburner to update - the game will prob get an update first

I got this game yesterday and it runs great for me. I even get a solid 60fps when driving.
I have all my settings except AA and SSAO maxed out, playing at 1920x1080.

My specs:
HD6950 2GB (bios unlocked) overclocked to 875MHz
i5 2500k @4,6GHz
8GB RAM
Win 7 64bit

I can play the game all maxed out, but if I do I limit the FPS to 30 and I haven't seen it go below that.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but if you're using SLI and want more performance - use bits 0x84010F5 instead of the current ones

Made my GPU usage go up and I had a huge performance increase.

Before I was at 1440p with max settings and with high AA I was getting 40-50fps, with this new SLI bit I get 80-100FPS with the same settings.

Literally doubled my performance.

Thank you sir. You weren't kidding about double.

Locked 60. 1920x1080. everything maxed except aa. Have to leave it on high. previously i had to have choose between aa on high and ssao on normal, or aa on normal and ssao on high.

The day time stuttering is driving me mental. Happens only during the day, so I suspect it's the shadows. Doesn't feel like frame drops, just blatant stuttering. Very, very annoying.

Increased the throttle on my fan to kick in earlier as I realised Sleeping Dogs was a nightmare for my card. I hit ~80°C, had the fan kick up to ~80% earlier and now hit ~65°C which is a lot safer. GPU maxes out, but VRAM doesn't (thankfully).

Gonna try turning the AA down to normal, so no SSAA, and see how the stutter goes.

Try playing in windowed mode, it makes the stuttering go away completely for me.

Which GPU and what cooling? I had sort of the same issue with Crysis on stock settings with no OC AND stock cooling on my 6950. I unlocked the clocks and shaders and it's now a 6970. I maxed out the OC to 950/1450mhz and get 28-32C LESS with higher clocks. Big differences here. Not to mention the Accelero at full speed is about 30% loudness of the stock fan so you could imagine the stock fan got loud at 100%.

Ooo, I'll give it a test on my next run.

GTX 570, factory OC'd, stock cooling. 80% fan is like a jet engine, but if it keeps the card at ~65°C I'm not fussed. I play with headphones anyway so I don't hear the fan much.

The game runs like butter otherwise. As soon as daytime hits the average frames drop, which I expect given the complex lighting and shadows, but it also introduces annoying stutter. Weird.

It's interesting as I always read people complaining about stutters whether it's to performance or micro stuttering on AMD cards but my 6970 has not had such issues nor is my performance ever hindered. It helps that the OC I have puts it in line with a 580 in terms of performance. As was mentioned before, running a borderless window (if the game even allows it) may help but I'm not too familiar with modern nvidia cards since I haven't have one in about 5 years.

Downloading 305.67 now. Will give them a shot shortly.

Chiming in to say thank you thabiz. I'm fairly certain (touch wood) the 305.67 revision has cleaned up 99% of my day time stuttering. I get very, very slight irregular stutter for a single frame every now and then, but it's the usual game jank I expect. The consistent day time stutter has otherwise been completely fixed, at least for the areas I tested it in. I still get a FPS drop, as expected, from the shadows/lighting, but no more stuttering.

Cheers for that.

Oh, and if it weren't obvious to people already, use the nVidia control panel or nVidia Inspector to find the Sleeping Dogs profile (exists on 305.67, but you'll have to make your own with an older version like I did) and enable 16x high quality anisotropic filtering. Sleeping Dogs doesn't appear to use any. It was the first thing I noticed when I started playing and immediately forced it. Cleans up textures beautifully.

I'm not good with this kind of stuff, but I have a GTX570, can I use these drivers without screwing anything up?

Yep. Go here, scroll down to download, and select the version appropriate for your Windows (Vista/7 or XP, 32bit or 64bit).

Thinking about getting this game, I'm sure my computer can run it but I'm curious what you guys think I can expect as far as what I'd have to set the settings to and framerate. It's a laptop:

i7-2630QM
1GB Radeon HD 6770M
6GB DDR3 RAM
1920x1080 (external monitor)

If no one's sure, how would performance compare to the PC ports of SR3 or GTA4? (Since those are similar games that ran very well on my computer at relatively high settings).
Quoting myself here so everyone can see my laptop specs

I just bought this game last night (so good, love how lively the city is compared to GTA or Saints Row) and it runs great at the default Medium settings... I didn't touch the settings at all - there may be a way to squeeze out more visual fidelity without sacrificing framerate but, honestly, I don't give a damn - the game looks absolutely amazing the way it is.

Seems I'm the only one left on this place with a low-spec machine. :P Has nobody tried this game with a C2D and an ATI 4XXX card?

Could you specify the card? An ATi HD 4870 should still be acceptable, but if it's a HD 4350 not so much. That said, we're getting to the stage where you might want to consider an upgrade, the minimum specs specify a 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo and a HD 3870, so you'll be scraping just above the minimum specs. Assuming the graphics card isn't pants, you might get away with 720p and everything on minimum.

gaddammit, getting the HKShip crashes again. Loving this game but it keeps kicking me out. I also think my gfx card might be overheating cuz I got the dreaded green artifacting screen and it froze on me.

Yep. Go here, scroll down to download, and select the version appropriate for your Windows (Vista/7 or XP, 32bit or 64bit).

thanks for the link. gonna try this out. sick of the issues i'm having. maybe this will help.

Yeah I only have a 4670. It's depressing to think about an upgrade now though, because next-gen is right around the corner and when it comes I will be screwed again. :P

Then that's not all maxed out.

Thanks for that, grabbing 305.67 now...

Nvidia control panel says Im using driver 305.68. Are the 305.67 revision a later build than that?
Sorry, Im new to nvidia and their naming schemes.

Hmmmm never knew Sleeping Dogs has triple buffering built in. Thanks guys.

Now to fix the stupid stuttering. Trying out 305.67 now.

My specs are

i5 2500k
8GB RAM
GTX 460 768MB

I'm thinking about adding another 460(for SLI) for about $90. Is the performance boost for this game and most out right now worth it?

Multi-GPU performance is stuttery and extremely inconsistent. Three cards is the only way to get 60fps at Extreme at high resolutions, but as you can see it's kind of borked. Rock solid framerate with 1 card at reasonable AA settings. And why does my VRAM magically disappear with each card added?

When I'm in a melee fight, the FPS/screen is smooth. But when I'm jogging/sprinting around, the screen visibly shakes, and there's stuttering. I've tried to set all the graphical options to normal, and that doesn't seem to help.

My specs:
4870 1GB XFX Radeon GPU
4GB RAM
Intel i5 2.66ghz Quad Core PSU
Windows 7 64 Bit
Xbox 360 Wired Controller

My specs should be able to handle the game fine without these issues. Anyone else having trouble with this?

Oh, forgot to mention...I usually get around 40 FPS, but that doesn't mean the game is smooth.

Hey but like for real though, post some lossless screenshots in the Screenshot thread at those max settings. I want to indulge.

Good to hear that sorted it.

I didnt think to force AF. Good tip.

I've come to accept stutter to some degree. Im just finding lately most modern games stutter. I dont know why, but rarely do i get a full locked 60. I think there's more on the fly loading these days. So you should see stutter regardless.

So whats the consensus Anti Aliasing?

If I use Extreme AA I get an average of 43FPS
But if I use High AA I get an average of 59FPS

Everything else on max

2600k @ 4.4ghz
16GB Ram
GTX 590

Waste of money. Why not just save up for a 6xx card?

I don't really play PC games much. I was thinking about throwing in another 100 or less for a decent boost. I'd love to play Sleeping Dogs at a higher frame rate, but I can't justify paying $300 for a new card for just a few games.

Just wanted to give an update on my situation. I posted on this page that I was getting stuttering, and it was bugging the hell out of me.

I disabled Vsync through the advanced graphics options, and that fixed it. Night and day difference, the game is actually as smooth as it was intended!

In my Catalyst Control Panel, I have Vsync set to off unless application specifies. And triple buffering is off too. But it was disabling Vsync in the game options that fixed it.

updated to the newest drivers and the game did run more smoothly but this time my game froze and i had to quit out. man, this game is so good so i really hate these crashes...

I posted one.

Normal. Hell, I could play with Extreme but I'd rather just play with one card and not melt my computer. Maybe in the winter. Plus both crossfire and sli have problems in this game right now, and that's the only way you're getting above normal.

I posted one.

I think it's a common issue at this point. My game is running rock solid 60 FPS and I get a pretty visible stuttering while driving around. Everything is at max except AA which is at high. 690GTX.
