I'm not sure what you mean by this exactly, but if you're implying those accidental falls to your death off the side of the stage after a quick air dodge in the wrong direction, those shouldn't happen anymore, as the air dodge doesn't send your character into those blinking paralysis frames anymore.Aras said:so, I guess there are going to be more falls while dodging in the air u_u

As for trophies, the only one I recall being different between versions (visually) was the motion sensor mine.
I know this is getting into semantics here [hey, have to do something without dojo updates], but for the purpose of my argument Samus' screw attack isn't an item in the Metroid games, it's an ability. Samus doesn't carry a little ball around whenever she wants to screw attack; it's a suit upgrade. The item in Smash just allows other characters to replicate that ability so long as they hold the item, which is a fictitious creation for the Smash Bros games. Again, there'd have to be a Master Sword item or something along those lines for there to be a possible direct comparison.Jiggy37 said:I think Screw Attack does perfectly replicate the situation, though--but even if it didn't, they could just change the name of the Lip's Stick item. I should mention, though, I've never played Panel de Pon either, so I don't know whether there are generic Lip's Sticks or if she happens to have the only one in existence. This might all be a moot argument...
They don't even hold it now, though--they just attach it to themselves and somehow it gives them the ability, which isn't very different from the way it works with Samus' suit.Meloche said:I know this is getting into semantics here [hey, have to do something without dojo updates], but for the purpose of my argument Samus' screw attack isn't an item in the Metroid games, it's an ability. Basically, if you jumped once and used your air dodge, you could still use your second jump after it if you hadn't hit the ground yet. So I think it's likely that there's going to be far less accidental deaths due to air dodging.
The Japanese version has a total of 291 trophies versus America's 290 -- the added trophy is 'Tamagon' from Demon World. They also changed the Proximity Mine from the Perfect Dark look to the Goldeneye one for the North American release:Linkzg said:Did melee have any content exclusive to the Japanese version or American version? like trophies and such?
Well if they're both just generic parasols, I don't see why there'd be any issue with that. It's not like there can only be one generic parasol in existence... the issue would arise if Lip's Stick was somehow special and unique to her character [again, having played Panel de Pon might help here ]. The thing with the screw attack is that the item isn't necessarily Samus' screw attack, it just allows all characters to replicate it [however it does it, either as something one holds or otherwise]. I'm considering having Lip in the game using her stick would make the Lip's Stick a rival good... it doesn't make sense for Mario to be able to use it when Lip's running around with her own, for example. But I guess either way my question has been answered; the issue of the stick being used by Lip and also being an item isn't a problem for most, and so unless Sakurai thinks like I do we still have a chance of seeing Lip in the game. Works for me. :0)Jiggy37 said:They don't even hold it now, though--they just attach it to themselves and somehow it gives them the ability, which isn't very different from the way it works with Samus' suit.
Edit: Maybe a new comparison might help. How about the game having a generic parasol item even though Peach also has a generic parasol?

Jiggy37 said:I edited more in later, but yeah, basically I think the thing about Smash is that if canon can be broken once, I don't see why there's anything stopping them from breaking it twice. Having four Links in one match carrying Master Swords around doesn't even make sense on its own, and that's without bringing items into the picture at all...

if my memory serves me right, you can dodge as many times as you like.justchris said:But they're so obviously using the Four Sword. It's amazing how Thanks, I was going to ask that. It's nice air dodging doesn't paralyze you. I wonder if you can jump, dodge, jump, then dodge again?

Oh shit. MetaKnight too. As if he didn't kick enough ass already.
Hmm. That would probably improve the game from a 5.7/10 to a 5.9/10 for me, but that's because I'm one twisted individual.Kulock said:I have the import version, and yes, it's a little disturbing. Nana and Popo club baby seals.

TreIII said:He speaks the truth, though. In reality, the ICs should definitely be called the Seal Clubbers, cuz that's what they friggin' do best. In both the original Famicom game, as well as JP Smash DX, they continue to club innocent bystander seals and harvest them for their pelts! :lol
It's just another facet for how Nintendo often has a darker side than most would give it credit for. But then again, those of us who have been exposed to the likes of dumping dragons into pits of lava (SMB1), being allowed to stab innocent people (Zelda 1), gamble (Zelda 1) and have organized cockfights (Pokemon) would probably know better. :lol

I know. But Jigglypuff has the six jumps and additional height with as many Pounds as she can get off before hitting the ground, so I figure being able to get 4 dodges off sounds reasonable.WastingPenguins said:There is a delay of some sort after the airdodge, from what I hear. So you can't just continually airdodge over and over. Makes me wonder how well the purported 'airdodge then counterattack' strategies are going to work out.

Sending 10 year olds out, losing a fight means whiting out and having half your money taken? Twisted shit.

It's still cool to me if I can dodge someone's up air and keep floating around over their heads, stalling. The other Pokemon will kill the idea, though, with Pikachu's Thunder and Ivysaur's Bullet Seed, and probably Pit's arrows will put a stop to it also, but oh well.Firestorm said:But the air dodges aren't going to give you any additional distance this time. They just make you invulnerable for a few frames on the path you're already following.
Especially when they're 3,100-degree flames and 100,000 volt Electric attacks. Or when they get hit by a certain Pokemon that can send a train flying with a punch while also being able to throw 1000 punches in 2 seconds. Or get shot by another Pokemon with water pressure that puts a hole in steel. Or if they get stepped on by an unevolved Pokemon that can jump over Ayers Rock (348m, says Wikipedia) and has hooves ten times harder than diamond. And I haven't even mentioned a single non-first-gen Pokemon. You forgot to mention the ten year olds gambling in casinos run by organized crime (Pokemon), an alien that was inspired by a rape scene in a movie (Mother 2), people body-slamming each other into electric fences (Mario Strikers), and the use of planetary genocide as a legitimate tactic (Metroid).

TreIII said:It's true. The whole head-trippy thing behind Giygas/Giegue was actually inspired by when Itoi (the creator of Mother/Earthbound) had an interesting "moment" in his life when he unknowingly snuck into a theater...that was playing XXX flicks.
In a nutshell, Giygas was basically kind of representative of how his young mind couldn't understand what the people were doing on the screen. All he knew was that it was still very, very wrong...
