Yeah, Pokemon Battle Revolution, a game that is touted to use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, the same service that offers free online play with the DS, which is less than a month away from release in Japan...
Ok first off, why is it fair to stick a 360 with a wired controller when the Wiimote+Nunchuck is wireless?
secondly what about saving games on that awesomely cheap core system huh? Unlike wii a core 360 has NO means of saving thus you are going to need at least a memory card.
So lets see, thats and extra $10 for the wireless pad over wired and $40 for 64meg mem card (the wii had 512 build in so technically for it to be equal you'd need more than one card but we wont get into that) so thats an extra $50.
Some of you may now realise $50 isn't a huge amount, and you're right it's not, which makes it all the more odd that it wasn't mentioned in the original comparison as it would have still semi supported the argument, but you see it wouldnt have been as good a troll.. gg
You're missing his point. Wii games are 50 dollars always and they'll never drop below 50, whereas 360 games drop all the way down to 30, depending on age.
[/sarcasm]
Fine, I can wait 3 months for it to become viable, if it appeases everyone. But in 3 months, it WILL BE, so what the hell is the point of agruing something that's an inevitability to become factual? Next year, I'll be playing games online with my friends, while 360 owners will have to shell out $50 a year to do the exact same thing. But until then, I'll retract it, despite that fact.
Well I for one think the Wii is crap. The hype of the thing is mentally retarded too. Everyone who's saying how great it is will within a month or two put it away, rarely ever touching it, until the next big Nintendo game comes out. Then they'll pull it out again, play that game to completion, and put it away again. They'll repeat this until they get bored of the same goddamn treadmill that Nintendo has been running for the last ten years. Only this time around the graphics are so bad people will jump ship a lot sooner than before.

It was a thread for people who bought a Wii and weren't happy with it.
Then people who didn't get a Wii came in to say they didn't like it, then you got Nintendo fans being defensive, then you got people who care so little about a product that they post repeatidly in threads about the product that they just care so little for.

I've played several games for the Wii, including Zelda, and was very unimpressed.
The whole "Wiimote" novelty wore out extremely fast.
Yet another system for only the people that have been brainwashed by Nintendo.
This thread is pretty special, the Nintendo fanboys get to flame anyone and everyone they want with no repercussions whatsoever. Nice.
K'Dash gets banned for saying stuff like how buying a Wii is a waste or how the cost of the system is not worth the price but people can say the same about the PS3 and they are applauded.
I'll most likely be flamed to no end by the Nintendo fanboys for saying that and then subsequently banned but who cares. Oh noes! I can't post on NeoGameFAQs for a few days. /slitwrists

I almost gave up on Nintendo, the Gamecube was terrible IMO. I got it at launch when I was 13, but now I'm 17 and know everything there is to know. It better deliver like I expect or I will be forced to give up on console gaming. My Ds Lite gets a lot of play so, I'll be able to game.
And it's everything else than cheap in my opinion. I can't justify spending that much money on such crappy hardware. I think it's way overpriced. No Wii for me.
i was really excited for it until i saw the australian launch. zelda is the only thing that appeals to me. i will be cancelling my pre-order and getting a DS instead. i'm sure the console will turn out great though, i am just worried about future 3rd party support down the line.
Graphics capability of the Wii coupled with some of the hardware it features, could be compared a souped up GC. The GC currently retails for $99. From what I remember from working at Best Buy well over a year ago, the GC costs the retailer around $99 Cdn. I'm sure that since then, costs have came down quite a bit. I would estimate that the GC now costs Nintendo around $80 US to make.
A reasonable estimate on the costs of those features would be $50 added to the price of the console. So $130 for the hardware itself.
Yet you pay $250 for the console (probably at a small loss for Nintendo). That means you're paying $120 for the controller. Wayyy too expensive.
So it's $250, for visuals only slightly better than a $99 machine (at retail). The motivation for spending the extra money is the controller for the most part. I don't see the controller worth that much more.
If it was $199 Cdn, I'd be far more open to it. If it was $150 I would have picked it up at launch.
The only game that interests me now is Zelda. I could pay $59 Cdn to play it on the GC, or $339 to play it with Wii controls. It's an easy decision for me. I don't see a difference worth $279, and I don't see many games coming in the future that will make really good use of the controller, just as the DS features only a handful of games that put the stylus to good use rather than a gimmicky use.
didn't read mister cryface's post, but **** that it is overpriced. It's really cheap to make and nintendo is selling with a size-able profit.
edit: also, I'm not interested in the wii yet, since the only good game is trauma center. Zelda doesn't even apply since it's a gamecube game. I have yet to try out the wii though, so I might change my mind, but I doubt it.
How much does it cost to make? I hadn't seen any numbers going around, but you seem to have the inside track.

I'm loving it. Wii will be my primary party machine, while 360 and PS3 will satisfy my conventional gaming needs. I love playing Wii sports w/ my wife.
Only thing is, I can see myself getting tired of Wii sports in near future. It's all about how well they can exploit the whole Wiimote idea without getting too gimicky and all... and to say the least, that might be the breaking point of the actual longevity of this little console's life... if they follow up with good games, it will go long - if not, it could just end up being a little fad that shined brightly for a while.

OH NOES YOU DIDN'T

Wiis are sold at a profit by Nintendo. They don't lose money per system sold.
As for disliking the Wii itself, no I don't. The form factor is nice (both on its stand and laying down) and I like the blue LED. The system menus are great too. But there isn't much to judge for a console without taking games into consideration. One complaint I might have is that the controller+attachment and sensor bar make for a bigger hassle than conventional systems. Picking up and putting down the controller whenever you want to play or take a break is annoying, as is having to point a certain direction half the time. Overall not a huge complaint, but it's definitely a bigger hassle than normal gaming.
Wii sports is terrible. I have a hard time even calling it a game, as it mostly plays itself. Don't get me wrong, I've had some fun playing boxing and bowling, but it's an absolutely horrible game. It's fun for an hour or two or as a party game, but I wouldn't pay more than $10 for it in the store and I wouldn't rate it more than a 6.5/10 if reviewing it. I feel slightly ill seeing so many people praise it. Are they really fooled by it?
Zelda is great, but the controls are a big detriment to me. The game would be far better if you could press a button to attack, rather than shake the controller. It's been said by a lot of people and I think I've even posted it before, so I'm not going to go over it again. The graphics are also mediocre. The best part about Zelda is the sound. Music and sfx are great, though the whole issue with the remote speaker is annoying, it's not a major gripe. The game is also too easy. I wouldn't rate Zelda more than a 9/10, but it's still a great game despite its shortcomings.

Agreed. It might be fun, but it sure as hell isn't worth 250 bucks. No DVD player, nothing online at launch, shitty graphics, no harddrive. I don't understand how paying 250 is justified.
I bet most of the nintendo fanboys you are referring to are from pre N64, when nintendo didn't make silly decisions and are hoping someday that they'll lead gaming again.

I didn't fall for the Wii hype at all and I don't plan on getting one anytime soon. Maybe it's because all Nintendo products I bought so far were major disappointments, maybe it's the gimmicky controller or the lack of interesting games. Maybe it's because I want next gen graphics and sound in next gen. The only thing that the Wii has to me is its looks.
Let me explain about the major disappointments thing:
- the N64 I bought is only able to output via composite. Neither RGB or S-Video work (tried with a couple of cables). It's no fun to get eye cancer while playing.
- the GBA SP is way to small for my hands
- I can't use my NDS for more than an hour at once because my left hand goes to sleep
- my US GCN doesn't support an RGB signal, my PAL GCN doesn't support S-Video. Also the lack of games and the controller were disappointments to me.
- the Nintendo VIP codes you get for all N products you buy over here in Europe can't be used in Austria
Oh... and last but not least:
Nintendo fanboys are even worse than Linux fanboys.
Remember that Aussie that hacked into the forum and banned all the users who said something against BigN? :lol
I went from what a shitty hardware I won't buy it until it's 100 and they release player's choice games, to maybe I'll buy it, to I must get one no matter what and I'm counting the days to the euro launch, I hope I can manage to get one without a preorder.
Well, Wii hasn't sold me on the concept yet. Wii sports is fun, but at times feels a tad broken. Certainly boxing and tennis could be tightened up in other games. Zelda is also probably going to be my favorite game ever....so I guess so far Wii rocks.
Seriously...if that's not evidence enough that it's over-priced. It's just nowhere near the technological value of the 360 and PS3 where they lose a good amount on each console .

Sony is taking a considerable loss on each PlayStation 3 sold. Costs for the 20GB model exceed the suggested retail price of $499 by a total of $306.85, Analysis estimates for the 60GB version, costs exceed the $599 price by $241.35. In contrast, the HDD-equipped Xbox 360 has a manufacturing and materials total of $323.30 while you're paying $399.
Heck, if Nintendo lost $240 on each Wii sold like how Sony does for each 60gb PS3, it would be the number 1 selling console at $10! :/ Seriously though, they could make some cuts and I think they should. But as long as it sells well I guess they won't.
See? That's exactly what I meant about their fanboys. They aren't able to accept that somebody might fall for the same things as they do. Well, nevermind. Have fun with your Wii.
aside from actually /playing/ the console, which is fun, i used to see wii as this fresh, revolutionary alternative to what the competition was putting out; now i see it as a somewhat overpriced console home to a multitude of shovelware, giving it kind of a cheap feeling in my mind. im more or less positive this'll change in time though

I almost hate it because of how much my friend loves it (I have a real life Nintendo fanboy as a friend :lol And yes, we MERCILESSLY give him a hard time for it).
It's fun for a while and I can see the remote gimmick getting really old, really fast.
I was also surprised by how terrible the graphics were, compared to the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
I don't hate the wii, but i won't be picking one up until i can get one used or at a price drop. That and I hate the way the PR is spinned in such a way as to say the way I been enjoying my hobby for the last 15 years is wrong.

How do you guys decide that the Wii is "overpriced?" I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, but I just want to know what overpriced is? Do you not pay high multiples of the manufacturing cost for flash memory? Do you not pay 10 times Nike's expenses for a pair of their sneakers? How about jewelry? How much do you pay for a piece of metal?
There's no such thing as overpriced, at least not in a free market economy like ours. The price is set by the customers. You can say it's too expensive for you, but overpriced is a bit of a self-contradictory term in our society.
The Wii is produced to provide a luxury service: entertainment, fun. You have a choice. You decide if the amount of fun it can provide you is worth the $250 or not. It's really that simple. In the end, after all the calculations you want to run and all the prices of the components you want to add up and divide by the Nikkei, this is the only thing that will decide what the price is. If the market buys the Wii's "fun" at $250, the price will remain as such. Overpriced doesn't exist unless we have a government-controlled economy.
While I think it's stupid to hate on the Wii (same as the PS3/360), he does have a point about Nintendo fanboys getting a lot of slack lately for absolute trolling.
Well lately as in the last year. It's popular to be a Nintendo fanboy right now.
