So my yet to be born little girl may end up disabled in some way (upd: she's okay!)

Well thank fuck for that.

Baby scan was perfect, with no issues detected. Growth is okay and specialist thinks it's extremely unlikely she'll be affected. We're not completely out of the danger zone (one more test in progress to confirm the status of the infection) but consultant (who was awesome) thinks we don't have anything to worry about.

Even gave us a load of 3D scans of baby (she looks like her brother).

Full on tears of relief from all the family here. What a rollercoaster.

Heartfelt thanks to all of you for the good vibes - they most assuredly did the trick.

So nice to hear. Hope you guys continue to get good news about her :)

Been there. Had scans early with my second son that showed fluid in the back of the cranium, which is an early sing of a whole bunch of different possible nuero defects including early signs of Downs. So we had a good 5 days where we had to consider a life where where our second child may have disabilities. Not fun, even knowing it happens all the time and there are lots of support structures in place.

In the end, he is perfect, same as you, further scans came back just fine, but definitely know the feeling.

On top of that, my first son was in the NICU for 7 weeks due to premature birth. Also just fine.

Glad to hear it, OP!

For anybody else facing (or who knows someone who is facing) something similar, I've got a few friends who found solace in this poem. I know it's cheesy, but it rings true to their lives and struggles.

http://www.child-autism-parent-cafe.com/welcome-to-holland.html (it isn't Autism-specific)

Welcome to Holland

I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability – to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this...

When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip – to Italy. You buy a bunch of guidebooks and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum, the Michelangelo David, the gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.

After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland."

"Holland?!" you say. "What do you mean, Holland?" I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy.

But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.

The important thing is that they haven't taken you to some horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place.

So you must go out and buy a new guidebook. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met.

It's just a different place. It's slower paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around, and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills, Holland has tulips, Holland even has Rembrandts.

But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy, and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life you will say, "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned."

The pain of that will never, ever, go away, because the loss of that dream is a very significant loss.

But if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things about Holland.

Great to see this.

Even if something does come up, just love the little one with all you got. Close friend has a little girl with down syndrome, she's a ton of work from conversations, but she's a delight too. She's 8 and about the size of my 4 year old..such a sweetheart.

You'll have plenty of support no matter how it goes. Best wishes all things are clear.

Glad to hear the good news.

You've shared with us one of your most personal feelings and I know sometimes "poster's remorse" can set in after hitting 'post' but it was nice seeing Neogaf sending their thoughts and well wishes to you and yours. Inspiring.

I have to say this thread was physically painful to read, I feel for what you've been through, so happy that you posted positive update, stay strong.

OMG Sik just seen this thread, I'm very glad things look like they are going to be okay. Best Wishes.

If you don't mind me asking what prompted the 32 week scan. The missus is pregnant and we just found out the gender (a girl) but we wont be getting any more scans for the remainder of the pregnancy.

Just remember that everything happens for a reason and it is out of your hands, but I do hope the best for you and your family.

A little anectdote for you; when my wife was pregant with our first born, the OB found a tumor on her umbilical cord. They told us to come back in 1 month to see if it went away/down. ONE MONTH! So of course we freaked out and paniced and I probably made similar inquiries to others around me. Flash forward to one month later and we were told that tumor went away and all was well. Point being; don't panic. Let things play out and re-evaulate when you know more.

My prayers are with you and yours.

:D Congrats.

Good to hear that everything is going to be ok.

When my wife was pregnant around the 30 week mark, the doctor scared the shit out of us. Supposedly there was not enough fluid. Our hearts sank. The doctor immediately sent us to the triage for testing and an ultrasound. Everything was fine, and it turned out the doctor looked at the wrong file. Scared the crap out of us for no reason.

Champagne for everyone and you're paying !

OP, my wife found out about CMV because we agreed to take a voluntary test.

While I understand your feelings because I went through it, the odds believe it or not is actually low it will cause issues. But there isn't really much they can do. Studies are still being done to see if any treatment is helpful.

Stay strong.

So happy for you! My wife is 26 weeks pregnant and things like this scare the crap out of us, especially after our miscarriage we went through that I posted about here in January 2016. My wife was born with Spina Bifida herself so we have to do all we can to be hopeful that all is going to be fine. We had our 20 week appointment and had the measurements and everything and thank God everything was fine up to that point. She even has above average arms and legs so they say we may have a little dancer on our hands, haha. I told them or maybe a boxer or MMA fighter with a nice reach.

I find it hard to believe too many other things may be as stressful for such an extended period of time as it is while you are waiting for the pregnancy to play out from conception all the way up to delivery.
