Sonic Generations Announced [PS3 / XBOX 360 / PC / 3DS] - No Wii Version Official

Screenshots also confirm possible playable order. All of the Classic Sonic screenshots are labeled "Act1", all the Modern Sonic screenshots are labeled "Act2". So, at least in this case, you play as Classic Sonic first before returning to City Escape as Modern Sonic.
I hope there's more acts than just the main classic Sonic, main modern Sonic.

Something more substantial than Unleashed's extra acts, like Colors.

That's how I feel about a good chunk of Wii U posts on GAF

Already said in the other thread that seeing City Escape again got to me. Generations is only looking better each time

What the fuck, the music in the trailer was not the City Escape music.

City Escape's original theme music was confirmed months ago by the guy who sang it in SA2. It's gonna be rerecorded for this game.

Anyway, gonna copy&paste the Nack poster history from the previous thread.

http://www.sonicwrecks.com/news/sonicgenerationse3/

And now time to point out something you may have seen in the video and reveal how it came to be. I don’t think SEGA will begrudge me expanding on this little detail and how it came to be as no one will remember it except me.

A long time back when I was at SEGA the opportunity to put a little Easter Egg in came up which I was asked about which. However, I went back and suggested that baring in mind City Escape’s layout you could do a lot more with the billboards and posters. I then suggested a frankly embarrassing array of posters and billboards to them cramming in as many little references as I could possible think of.

This was a long time ago though and I never heard anything back from it. But yes, this is probably why you now have Fang/Nack and Bark and Bean referenced in the game on wanted posters. I’m a tad astonished they actually got in, but not just that they actually used my exact wording!

generationsnackcameo.jpg

Nack’s says :

WANTED
For Theft & Extortion
Nack The Weasel
A.K.A
Fang The Sniper

Actually getting poor Fang referenced in a game AT LAST has left me pretty chuffed actually!

Bean/Bark’s one makes reference to theft/possession of explosives if my memory serves correctly. Charmy Bee’s honey (not sure where butter came from) was one of mine as well and I’m pretty sure you can partly thank me for the expanded Chao In Space 2 movie poster text as well.

The magnifying glass one appears to say “Are You Sure You Want To Know”, I think I mentioned doing one for Chili Dogs but it looks like the team came up with one there themselves.

These are all the ones we’ve seen so far – but there may be more little easter eggs for you. I’m sure as hell not going to tell you what they are/maybe, you’ll have to find out for yourself.

You’ll also note the trailer has refernces to other characters in building names. There’s Amy (Amy’s Market), Blaze (Coffee-Blaze) as well as “Tails’ Pizza”. Expect lots more fan service in there from Sonic Team and depending on if anything else of mine got approved you might be (further) astonished and I’m now very excited to see what else Sonic Team have put in. Hats off to them for agreeing to include it!

This is ignoring what appears to be Unleashed’s Spagonia being teased at the end of course.

European fans will get to play Sonic Generations at Summer Of Sonic on June 25th.

I did a Q&A with Iizuka and I can confirm that there will be extra acts per zone.

I got to see the full two escape levels in action. They looked awesome and the GUN truck is really nasty this time with sawblades coming out of it. Also saw some of the posters including "MISSING: Mighty and Ray".

I'll have more info on SonicStadium later.

That's great.

So I assume that's your Eyes-On preview, then?

AWESOME. Looking forward to some impressions.

Though I do find it interesting that the Classic Version of Escape from the City doesn't have lyrics.

"Iizuka died when he ran too slow on the side of a wall and the truck hit him."
This made me laugh so hard. XD

So has there been any Sonic 3 and Knuckle (or even Sonic CD) zones confirmed or shown yet?

As for modern, really hoping Emerald Coast makes it in.

Sonic 1/2 really get too much spotlight, of course you need the token Green Hill, but come on...

Yup. Wasn't done with it yet, but it looks like they posted it anyway. Oh well. S'all good.

Here's my hands on impressions of Green Hill zone on both HD and 3DS versions.

http://www.segabits.com/?p=13625

3DS version has a little bit of Sonic 4ness on classic's part. (It IS from DIMPS after all) Modern Sonic was more fun on 3DS. Both levels were about half the size of the HD versions. Short.

One thing about the HD versions that bugged me that I forgot to mention was the winding tubes Sonic rolls in. It's instant and makes him super fast. Even if you walk to them.

3DS Sonic is fun as well, but a bit disappointing. Classic Sonic still has his Genesis feel but some of DIMPS Sonic 4 weaknesses remain. Mostly that of stopping on a dime when letting go of the D-Pad.
Fucking Sega dammit stop being so stupid.

How does modern Sonic control vs the Colors counterpart when it comes to 2d platforming? Is it a little tighter and easier to platform? Colors had a few improvements it needed on that end..

Fixed.

All those promises of original style physics... It was just too good to be true.

That's what you get for not accepting glorious HD Sonic

What do you...? OH, so that was talking just about 3DS? That's still a shame, but I'm glad I'm not getting a 3DS any time soon.

Does anyone have any impressions on the console versions physics?

Awesome footage. The new trailers looks fantastic. City Escape seemed like the most difficult level for Classic Sonic to go into.

And for a second I thought the dodgy physics were on the HD version.

TSSZ has posted the supposedly near final zone list,

Sonic 1 – Green Hill *
Sonic 2 – Chemical Plant
Sonic 3 and Knuckles - Sky Sanctuary
Sonic Adventure – Speed Highway
Sonic Adventure 2 - City Escape *
Sonic Heroes – Seaside Hill OR Casino Park / Bingo Highway
Sonic 2006 – Crisis City
Sonic Unleashed – Spagonia / Rooftop Run Day *
Sonic Colors – Planet Wisp

Some of you may have seen this list, and even commented on the remark. We were able to check up on X, and we matched the mysterious identity with an actual source, who agreed to tell us more details on condition of anonymity. After TSSZ spoke with the source, we are comfortable treating the above list as a confirmed, near final list of stages planned for the base XBOX 360 / PS3 edition of Sonic Generations.

I swear if Seaside Hill makes it into this game...

As much as I like Sky Sanctuary, it's disappointing that Sonic 3 and S&K aren't treated as separate games.

It's only a low blow because you don't get a stage for S3 and S&K individually. Treating them as one game is a step up in just about every other regard :p

Catalix

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.
Ugh, city overload. It'd be heartbreaking if 3DS actually gets all the good level variety.

Haha, so true. Under any other circumstance, treating S3 and S&K as separate entities would almost be insulting. We are through the looking glass, people :p

So the 3ds version is classic style but with the homing attack and boost? Maybe ill just get it on the 360, can't wait to try it!

No9 No. No homing attack on classic Sonic. Most things have been improved over Sonic 4 on the 3DS. Just the physics are still a little off. Much better than Sonic 4, but still off. Like I said modern Sonic just felt better.

Also, classic Sonic is perfect in HD. Controls wonderfully. However, there was one instance of instant speed. When you get to those winding tubes that Sonic rolls inside. He instantly rolls in them as super high speed even if you approach it walking. It's the only flaw I could find.

A member of Sonic Retro, Trunks, who does some work for Archie posted a list which is pretty much the same as the list TSSZ posted. The only difference was that his source "didn't remember" what Sonic Unleashed's level was.

He later said that he was pretty sure that the list was fake and that his source was probably full of shit.

On the official TSSZ twitter account, Tristan seems convinced that his source and Trunks' source are two different people, for what it's worth.
