CNET casually mentions a new VR headset that most likely will be announced at this keynote.

If its just some rehashed stuff and nothing new or remotely big, then surely they wouldnt have flown Kaz all this way?

Or is he there to swag at PS4 sales charts? Remember Sony during PS2 days? Charts, charts everywhere.

He did host part of Sony's conference last night already though. So even ignoring the keynote, there was a definite reason for him to be there.

He introduced the other guy and left. I don't think that's enough to be considered definite reason for him to be there.

Opening keynote for the biggest electronics trade show in the United States is a rather big deal. Even if there's nothing new to announce, stuff like these are handled by the Big C of respective companies.

Ballmer's always the one to do MS's keynote at CES even when they had jack nothing new.

Yeah, pretty much. I think each of the big companies there get a go at the keynote every so often, and you always send your CEO.

I meant if he was already on the schedule then there was a reason for him to be at CES even without considering the keynote.

Didn't mean to imply that only he could do the job last night. :p

Why not? He is the President and CEO of sony corporation and this is one of the biggest happenings in the industry. Even if the products are just "standard stuff", he represents the whole company and it's good marketing to have him there.
