While I don’t believe the rumor is true, SE will be a good remedy to Sony’s increasingly lowering Japanese market share that is dominated by Nintendo. The sources behind this rumor are as weak as they can get, but apart from that I simply don't think it would be good for Sony to acquire Square Enix.
Both Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics are a mess, while in Japan they have a ton of teams making shitty mobile games, Switch games that wouldn't do well on a home console (the Bravely series, the Secret of Mana remakes, Octopath Traveller, everything made by Tokyo RPG Factory, etc) and pure trash like Left Alive.
And I don't think that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project, any new mainline Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy XIV Online, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest or NieR games would compensate the headache that managing the rest of the company would bring to any new owner.
.On Wednesday.
But neither owns the rights to The Avengers IP.Crystal Dynamics is owned by SE. Would pair very nicely with Sony/Insomniac's Spiderman team.
And as others have noted SE has a treasure-trove of Anime-friendly IP. Its a very natural fit.
Concur. I'm getting tired of this trend.Hopefully not, we don't need more publishers being bought up.
When he's got people "in the know" backing him up.How is Tech Noir (literally an unvalidated SONY Console Warrior twitter account) considered a source for anything?
Did crap gamer back this rumor up? I don’t doubt crap has a few psuedo insider friends but a literal who’s Twitter account and crap gamer aren’t exactly eurogamer or kotaku. As much as I want this to be true. When he's got people "in the know" backing him up.
Perhaps you've heard of Crapgamer.
Well, at least they got that part out the way in the last 23 yearsIt’s not really Sony’s way to acquire a company as an outright purchase, they seem to work with studios for a while and establish a close relationship first.
Yeah, perhaps my post was a bit snarky.Learn to read instead of making a snarky reply.
What I'm getting at is that their market value is very close to their purchase value for Sony. It has nothing to do with Square accepting a shitty deal, and everything to do with Sony not overpaying.
In comparison, Bethesda which sells a ton of games on Sony platforms - Microsoft will have to essentially OVERPAY for something that isn't as valuable to their platform since the market value is based upon sales on Sony and Nintendo consoles, and now they very likely won't sell their games on those platforms.
The worlds best gif lol
Tales from their ass!!
Lol, they can't? It's been a PlayStation console exclusive since it launched on PS3.Isn't their most profitable game an MMO? So not sure how useful they would be as a weapon in the console war, It's not like they can make it a console exclusive.
Here’s an example.Sure but you didn't challenge the poster who stated otherwise and until you do I won't
You know MS don't give the numbers so if Square doesn't you'll never know which means you pulled your numbers out thin air.
Just wanted to see if it was financially possible, and I could be doing this completely wrong, but I'm seeing that SNE has $3.3B in cash as of March 2020. Market cap for SQNNY (Square Enix) is about $8.8B.
Can someone with better knowledge on financial statements and acquisitions square that circle for me?
Your numbers are way off. Sony has about 45 billion cash on handJust wanted to see if it was financially possible, and I could be doing this completely wrong, but I'm seeing that SNE has $3.3B in cash as of March 2020. Market cap for SQNNY (Square Enix) is about $8.8B.

Still wouldn't be enough, Microsoft will be able to outbid Sony, and get their money back faster than SonyThey have more than $40B in cash not $3.3B
It’s not EBayStill wouldn't be enough, Microsoft will be able to outbid Sony, and get their money back faster than Sony
It’s not EBay
For the love of all that is holy, let this not be true. I'd hate for these assholes to own Square Enix.
