So I have this TV and I love it, but I had a huge bug today that I found the solution to, so I figured I would let you guys know in case it happens to you.

The HBO GO app is bugged at the moment (at least for me), and if you change the input from the app, it stops all sound coming from inputs. I tested it with my Pc, switch and PS4.

The way to fix it is that when your done with HBO GO, you click back on the remote until you get to the home screen and the app closes down, then change input.

Apparently the app doesn’t close or something and it messes with the sound of the tv.
I just end up using the HBO Go apps on Apple TV or PS4, the built-in OS feels so sluggish to me.

I just got this last week, and the X-tended Dynamic Range in concert with Local Dimming is freaking amazing. I was testing it with a scene of someone in a dark tunnel with lights on the sides and the quality difference between on and off is quite stark. Amazing TV for the price.

I ended up going to best buy yesterday and got the 49inch. I don't have any 4k sources yet but I watched a couple blurays and they looked good. I'll post more impressions after I've had some more time with it.

Got the 65" yesterday. It looks fantastic, but coming from Samsung's Tizen interface, I'm disappointed with Android TV. I tried the "background process limit" trick and it made some difference, but I'm still surprised how unresponsive it feels at times. I read it also helps to reduce or turn off the animations, so I'll try that tonight.

What are your preferences for the local dimming and X-tended dynamic range? I have both at medium in the Cinema Home settings. I tried changing one/both to High and noticed no difference...granted this was with only 5 minutes of testing, but I've seen calibration reviews that recommend different combinations like M/H.

Local dimming at medium and dynamic range off. Both on high for HDR content.

I have a 65" 1080p set, and I've been looking into getting this TV around Black Friday. Would I hate myself if I got the more affordable 55"? I always hear "never go smaller than what you've got already", but damn if I don't want a 4K HDR TV already.

So has anyone here not been able to update to the newest firmware released on October 3rd? One of my TVs automatically did, but the other cant find it when I search for it and I was wondering if it's some kind of slow roll out or something.

PKG6.2669.0070NAA is the latest version.

If it's anything like Android updates on phones, they're generally staggered and not pushed to everyone at the same time. They are often spread over a couple weeks.

How does non 4K content look on this compared to 1080p sets? I’m debating picking this up but I’m concerned that Switch games might look worse than they do on my 1080p set. Am I being crazy?

Unless the screen itself is bigger, it should look the same. If the screen is bigger, it’ll probably look better just by way of larger screens looking awesome. First game I played on mine was BotW and I thought it was awesome.

Wasn't it only for certain sizes?
Same size, same model. Contacted Sony Chat on the 3rd, they had no solution for me. Couldn't update via USB, simply would not work/read it. The update was taken down days later but I noticed its back up again. I have not re-downloaded the file to compare sizes, same file name.

The Chat guy said it was only for certain serial numbers and that it would come to the other TV later, but it's been 10 days now.

I also can't get the TVs to properly read mp4s off a USB drive either. Tried two different drives, went to the video app, files have an X over it.

Almost had a heart attack. Turned on the TV and the screen was blank while the sound worked. Tried switching inputs to TV from hdmi and turning on/off the TV to no avail. Finally decided to unplug the power to the TV, wait a minute and plugged it back in. Problem solved.

This same exact thing happened to me last night. Like you I had to unplug the power to get it to work properly.

Looking into getting this TV. I hope that's just a weird issue with it being a smart TV or something and not a sign that it's going out or anything. I have a Samsung that's been running for 9 years and an LG going on 2 years now. Would hope Sony could be as reliable.

Black screen happened to me once also, powercycle solved issue

Also hdr mode produced a black screen once, powercycle also fixed

I figure it is down to android - sluggish and not 100% stable

Amazing tv though and i do not use the built in android except for kodi. Watch everything on apple tv - much faster, responsible and more stable. Play on the othee 3 hdmi ports (switch, pc and ps4) - everything looks amazing hdr or not

Got the 65" 930e yesterday. Watching my wife play the SNES classic (especially Metroid) was amazing haha! The colours on the screen as well as the blacks are just incredible and we've come from a really nice Panasonic Plasma! Super happy with the screen so far :)

Looking forward to tweaking it!

The only thing I'm waiting on my 46XE9005 is HDR support for YT. Hopefully it will come.
It's kind of ridiculous that YouTube and Google Play Movies don't support HDR on Android TV (not just this TV, any Android TV device). Play Movies HDR is only supported on Chromecast Pro.

That said, if you're thinking of getting a UHD Blu-ray player, the Sony UBP-X800 also support HDR YouTube. I've spent lots of time just watching cheesy demo videos on the HDR channel on YT. Funny to be enjoying a video intended to show off an OLED on my 900e. Looks great.

I do not suggest using the X-tended Dynamic Range setting at all on non-HDR content. It will appear to give the picture more contrast but all it does is crush details and saturate the image. I wish I could show pics but my current situation does not allow for it.

High local dimming coupled with a low brightness setting (I have mine at 4) is the way to go. The image will look much more natural while also boosting contrast because of a lower black level. It may appear to be dim but give your eyes at least a day to adjust.

What do people use for 4K content since Android TV apparently has issues? Do all the PS4 apps support 4k HDR? Looking at what’s best for playing Netflix/Hulu/Amazon
Android TV is fine for 4K HDR on Netflix and Amazon. I have the UBP-X800 for UHD Blu-ray, and it also has HDR YouTube support. Then my PS4 Pro for gaming.

Between all those, I'm doing pretty good on 4K/HDR content, considering the overall availability.

Owned this TV for about four months now and the iq is better than my Samsung I replaced it with. My major gripes with this TV is the android o/s which is laggy (although setting the background processes to 3 is much improved) and the other is the remote. Have to point the remote directly at the receiver for it to work. On the Samsung I could point it nearly anywhere.

Don't know why they would stick with a cheap IR? receiver for a upper-mid range tv.

So.

I'm going to have pc 24/7 connected on my new 900E. In order to have judder free movie experience rtings suggests enabling motionflow and cinemotion when watching from 60p source. So does that mean that I should have those enabled all the time. Or did I get it wrong?

EDIT. I think I need turn them on only if I'm watching a 24fps movie right?

Yes. During genereal PC use keep it in Graphics mode.

Usually when I watch movies/TV shows, I switch to TV's "Video" app and stream files via DLNA. Just be aware that Sony uses 100mbit LAN port, and that is not enough of bandwidth for high bitrate 4K content.

Got my TV today. Looks lovely and a huge upgrade from my old HD Ready Sony.

I have few questions about setting up HDR and different modes. Like I already said my PC is connected to my Sony X900E and that's how I use my TV the most. I set up two modes using rtings settings. One is game mode while another is movie mode with Flowmotion set on True Cinema and Film mode on high. This should result for judder free 24p playback right? And those two modes should be all I need.

I tested some PS4 games to see how the HDR looks. My HDR settings are the same as in the game mode except brightness on max and X-tended Dynamic Range on High. Only problem is that auto local dimming needs to be same in both sdr and hdr mode so I've put in on low. Sounds good?

Also tested 1080p/120hz which worked fine. And color format is YCbCr4:4:4 from Nvidia control panel.

Am I all good or should I change something? I want to get the best out of the tv but think I've done everything I can.

EDIT. I think everything else is clear but what to use for auto local dimming and x-tended dynamic range. Atm I have low/low on sdr and low/high on hdr. Any suggestions?

Indeed a great set, but the Android OS is for shit. Very laggy, sluggish, constantly locking up, and just overall unintuitive IMO. Coming from the Samsung UI this was a bit difficult for me to adjust to.

Also I keep having issues trying to turn the set on, seems like when I hit the power button on the remote the TV either won't turn on or it will take 10 seconds to turn on.

@Vertti, create ultrawide 3440x1440 custom resolution for PC gaming. It's a good alternative when you find that some game is struggling to reach good framerate in 4K, or you wish to immerse yourself better in some FPS/TPS game with wider FOV.

How do you do that? My new HDMI cable just arrived, I was using to one that comes with the PS4

Do you have a tuto?

And I don't know why or how but my neighbour can launch video on my TV, it only lasts few seconds but it's annoying as fuck.

1. Go to Nvidia Control Panel
2. Make sure DSR is off
3. Choose "Change resolution" from left
4. Select customise
5. Click enable resolutions not exposed by the display and click create custom resolution
6. Set up 1920x1080 with 120hz. Timing in auto. Click test and it should show you 1080p@120hz and then save it.
7. Scroll down in the change resolution window. Change output color format to YCbCr444.
8. Apply the settings and you are good.

For some reason I couldn't get 2560×1440@60hz or 3440×1440@60hz working but I need to try again.
