Soul Calibur II HD Online |OT| A Link To The Past

Alligator F*ck House
Unskippable intros. Single match only private games. And horrendous input delay on almost all my matches.

How the f**k did they screw this up?

I don't know if this is worth it.

The graphics are great, its sadly not 1080p but it seems Namco went all out with AA. Its very very clean. The gameplay seems to be untouched as well.

The bad parts I feel could be enough to skip this one if you're hardcore about this game.

- No Japanese voice track, the English one is pretty bad.
- The music, what music? I can't hear it. Its very low quality. No Dolby or DTS track either.
- Online is crap. Netcode seems hit and miss, some good and some bad but overall worse than SCV. Also the intro you can't skip thing and no lobbies? You can't skip win screens either. 2 rounds only as well.

This has better graphics than the original (and no slowdown), and there is online play. For the rest this is worse than the original. Since the music is so shitty and the JP track is gone Its no wonder this is only 700mb.

uuughhhhh. Those negatives have pushed this game back for me, thanks. Lack of JP voices is a shame. The English voices are terrible (minus the odd one or two characters) and always have been. There's always a chance once Japan get it that they will patch the rest?

When you say unskippable intros, do you mean battle intros or the actual game intro? Either would suck...

No lobbies online + Private matches kick you back to the main menu after one match + no Japanese voices + unskippable intros = Disappointment. Wish I didn't buy this.

The no lobbies and having to constantly reinvite for a match is very dissapointing

Give it a week or two and I'm sure Namco will graciously sell you a Japanese voice track for a fiver.

Every Soulcalibur release is progressively worse from an effort standpoint. Clearly, it's my favorite series of all time but Namco seems dead set on making people not like the franchise.

Did a quick comparison between Gamecube version of SC2 running at 1280x720 in Dolphin emulator, and xbox 360 version of SC2 HD running at 720p through component,

Xbox 360: http://abload.de/img/sc2hd-2e1djy.png
Dolphin: http://abload.de/img/sc2hdzzfxc.png

Xbox 360: http://abload.de/img/sc2hd-4bfity.png
Dolphin: http://abload.de/img/sc2hd-3k4obr.png

Image quality isn't a fair comparison as I doubt xbox 360 version is using supersampling like Dolphin, and component cables isn't helping, but this look like the original assets with some changes done to UI and with a distinct lack of AF.

Interesting! That first Dolphin pic looks way better than the 360 one. It would be nice if a lot of these HD remakes actually were in 1080p. It's like they are holding back to re-release them all on PS4/Xbone.

You can change the number of rounds in unranked matches.

Any 720p shots of SC2 running on the original Xbox just for fairness sake?

Namco is making me regret purchasing an SC game. :/

This is a lazy ass port, and the netcode is far worse than TTT2 or SC5.

Not exactly the same, but this is from Xbox running on component:

So I played Weapon Master some more and found out Assassin doesn't have a move list in the HD version either. I hoped a thing like this would've been added for these 3 guys.

Yeah, I can't recommend this game. Especially since I think SC5 is far better.

Maybe a patch will add options that should've been in from the start and iron out this netcode.

This one has a better character lineup. I enjoy using Cassandra and Xianghua much more than their SCV swaps. But I must say SCV is indeed better, even while its not nearly as meaty as SC2 is. Thats the problem, if they went out and made that needed SCV Ultimate edition with more content and old fan favorites the franchise would've been back on track. Instead of releasing that in Core Fighters form, they come up with some F2P single player thing thats supposedly shit.

I also paid less for SCV last year.

SoulCalibur V is the same price as this on PSN, and I'd find it hard to recommend this game over SCV unless you value single player content above everything else.

Also, I didn't think the lack of Link was going to have as much of an effect on my level of nostalgia for this game as it does. :p

I agree with the roster. I didn't realize how much I missed Taki until I played this again.

I really wish this had been SC3:AE. Zasalamel and Setsuka are two of the best characters in SC, imo, and it's a shame both of them got the shaft.

Do want SC5:U.

I think the ship has sailed on SC5's update now that Daishi's gone, unless it's an early next gen cash grab until Namco can get their Tekken offerings ready. But we still don't know what Unbreakable Soul is, so here's to hoping.

This is an epic port! So class. They really did a fantastic job on the timers and power bars and stuff like that...very arcadey.

Also, tried it on the J-360 (even with language set to J-speak). Still english if folks are wondering.

Holy shit that looks terrible... Is it just a bad port, or did PS2 have worse textures than GC to begin with? I think I read the port is based on PS2 version

LOL when PS2/Xbox1 era have both versions, I find it sad that I am forced to play with English grunts of ''screm, die, squirm, go away''

I tuned to Japanese voices because it sounded better when I did not understand what they were saying

Doing the Extra missions in Weapons Master Mode, I actually don't miss it any more. So much gimmicky bullshit.

LOL, i forgot the Yoshi, Cervy and Sophie were hidden in there... I don't feel like grinding it either lol

is it me or does the original Xbox1 with component cables at 720p still the best version?

Scratch what I said about the prices, they've now raised them to the prices were originally mentioned. Was playing with a friend earlier and having to get booted to the title screen after every match is just ridiculous. If you're looking for anything other than just ranked matches against randoms, DO NOT BUY this game. Fucking Scamco.

Maybe that's the secret plan with this and Lost Swords. Instead of making people hate Soulcalibur, maybe they'll just hate the single player stuff and long for a great head to head and online experience
Soulcalibur V

How do I unlock all the characters anyways? As long as Xianghua is available from the start I'll be okay, but how about the others?

This is literally unplayable online.

Just tried my first match. What a massive disappointment ... fuck.

Just to tell you how bad the delay is, you'll just sit there and lose to any basic move that has a follow up that goes either up or down. Because, you can't move your character fast enough to react.

Any character relying on speed, precision, countering, will lose. You can just pick Astaroth and spam basic combos and win every time because no one can move fast enough because of the delay.

I played two matches online and it chugs. My consoles are connected via wire for best results. Namco has not learned from online fighting

Yep. I play Taki with lots of possession cancels. Not possible to do online.

Yeah ... playing online will make you hate SC2 lol. Just ran across this guy with the most wins I'd seen yet. Was just doing F+ B,B,B with Raphael, then kick. Couldn't side step out of the way or GI because of the lag.

The scrubs that bitched about Raph being OP will have their confirmation bias confirmed.

Seriously, I cannot believe people miss modes that give you stupid rules like "Beat three enemies in a row without getting knocked down"

Great, that's super insightful and helpful, thanks for posting.

I don't see what's so insightful and helpful about just saying how stupid you think the extra missions in weapon master mode are either, as long as we're judging each other.

Getting beat by raph really means you don't understand frame properties in the game. He is extremely unsafe especially when he goes for a lot of his canned combos. You can counter/sidestep a lot of his verticals and his one his best lows is not something you want blocked as it guarantees a decent follow up.

Yet you said my favorite word, scrubs, and they will always just be that.
