That image is confusing as hell.
Thank you!
That image is confusing as hell.
The fact that people have tons of legitimate critical questions means they aren't communicating well enough.
Wtf are you defending this?
The system launches in a month. people want to know how it works before buying.
I respectfully disagree. They haven't told us anything about the virtual console, little about the UI, and snipits in the press and social media isn't explaining anything about online.
Look at it from a non gamer perspective. From a shareholders perspective, I'm livid. Its dollars and cents. That's it. Their stock has been continually falling since they haven't be upfront about Switch details and conference. That preposterous Jan event was ridiculous to anyone living outside Japan. Show me details, Nintendo games, and third party support! They have failed on all fronts. Maybe I'm expecting too much. But I don't think so. I'm not asking for every third party title on Sony and Xbox to show up on Switch. I'm not naive. Get some titles though! But show me why there has been software droughts the last several years.
Very very disappointing.
Well, the tweet is about team chat in a team based shooter, it should be a given that you would be having only your team mates in your channel. I mean, they are specifically referring to splatoon here.
Well, the app is technically free with the online subscription. Just like on Live you only can access party chat with a gold subscription (unless something changed in the last years and I'm not aware of it).
Yeah, that's another way to look at it.Battery though. I expect this to be the main reason.
That'd mean less resources (memory/processing) for the game and more to the OS.
Shit excuse. Vita was able to do this on a system level in 2011.
Sorry, smartphones have spoiled me with actually well designed apps and UI. It's not my fault consoles are so far behind in this regard.
Nah, I agree. Touch screen is better but that doesn't meant it should be the only way.
I think Smartphone App integration is an amazing option. Even being able to pump voice chat through a phone.
Just let me play online without my smartphone, i don't care about voice chat at all.
This is kind of a dumb comparison, smaller screen, less resolution but lol it should be the same

Remember when people said "wait until further confirmation" after it came out of Reggie's own mouth, like he'd forgotten it was optional. Good times. This is reality and it's shit.
The heart of the problem here is that they began to tell us all about their nifty smartphone app prematurely, before establishing any context whatsoever for what it adds or supplements in their existing system on the console. It seems likely that they perceive it internally as a distinct feature set not offered by the competition. There would be a lot less confusion if we heard what was supported on the console first, regardless of how much or little it is. As it stands, we still have no idea what's going on because for all that they are trying to tell us about the smartphone integration, we have to infer everything else around it by omission.

If the Joycon grip and the Pro controller had an audio jack, the problem would have been solved and everyone could've just had all audio go through their apple earpods or whatever they use on their phones...I get that, but since we're talking about a phone here, the amount of available headset options drops off a bit, no? With Sony and MS opting to use proprietary wireless frequencies for allowed headsets, it seems like those are already a bit of a moot point to bring up. Wired is definitely a different story for the ones that can carry audio without having to be plugged in via USB for power, but I can't say I see a lot of people breaking out a lot of those headsets for their phone in the first place.
I guess there is that feeling that Nintendo is figuring that people are just going to put their phones on speaker for the most part, which...well, seems like par for the course for them.
I'm talking about this specific feature, not in general.
What the fuck does this even mean?
The voice chat isn't being visually rendered.
Are you unaware of the difference in power?
This is kind of a dumb comparison, smaller screen, less resolution but lol it should be the same
This is kind of a dumb comparison
I have legitimate questions about THIS feature.
Is the friend list universal (sounds like it should be but as I said, Nintendo has FOUR separate friend lists right now)
Is in app matchmaking an option or the only option?
Is app integration an os level feature or only game by game integration?
What's the solution for voicechat in portable mode?
Are these not legitimate questions??
Has Nintendo already answered these??
Is this actually a sticking point for anybody though? Obviously it seems a no-brainer to have voice chat through the console rather than a phone app, but frankly, it's unlikely I'll be interested in either case. Whether they implement a feature that's been standard since the original Xbox Live or not, it isn't exactly a selling point to get me to enter into yet another subscription service.
And there you go. Who is still going to deny that you don't need the app?
The Tweet says "に対応する", which translates to "supports". This does not necessarily mean must, but rather can.
Sure, a rushed translation is as good as confirmation. See:
No, of course they haven't. Knowing Nintendo we might not even get answers until summer when the app is in trial.

Man... Really guys? Y'all still denying it? :/
It absolutely is. Why should I pay for a service that isn't even doing the bare minimum?
Nintendo's horrible messaging strikes again.Just let me play online without my smartphone, i don't care about voice chat at all.
They likely will be. They haven't talked about the OS and UI in general yet. They did before the Wii U launched so it's likely coming. This Splatoon info isn't actually any different from what we've heard before but we ultimately need to see what Nintendo has planned in action.
Worse cast scenario is this.
You play online with no voice chat. Which is what you experienced on the Wii U. What you likely experience on the PS4, XBO, and PC when you don't bother to hock up a headset or go into the options and turn off voice chat. Let's be very honest here. A LOT, LOT of people do just that. The vast majority of people don't bother with voice chat even when there is an option. If you use discord or something similar you'll continue to use that and go about your day.
The app is apart of the overall package and will do a lot more then just voice chat. You can likely just ignore the voice chat feature like so many do on other systems. You aren't paying for the app. You're paying for the access to online play.
Best case scenario.
The App is actually easy to use and somehow makes things better without to much trouble. Maybe some of it's features are integrated into the system OS itself. People still put people on mute and the vast majority still don't bother with the voice chat feature.
The voice chat isn't the biggest issue here and never was. What the online service is like in terms of server stability, speed, discounts, downloadable games, price, etc are all far more important and bigger unknowns. That people zero in on this, feel so angry, when it's such a small aspect and an aspect people generally ignore has been really confusing.
Shit excuse. Vita was able to do this on a system level in 2011.
Your right about that. But what throws me is does that mean in MK8 w can't chat with everyone in battle mode or race mode?
Your point is made though. We do need to wait for more information.

Do you really want random 12-year-olds screaming at you?Oh my God I really hope you'd be able to chat with everyone in a all vs all game like Mario Kart. Would be utterly stupid otherwise.
Dude even last gen consoles had this stuff no excusThat'd mean less resources (memory/processing) for the game and more to the OS.
