Sports Champions |OT| of Pretending to Play Sports

Nice OP!!

I love this damn game. I was NOT expecting to be this into it. If my body allows it, I'm going to be putting a lot of hours into a few of the events in this game, next week off work too :D

For those who didn't pick the bundle route with their move purchase and are on the fence about this one, I need to recommend it. Table tennis blows me away, so accurate and very addictive. I was still skeptical after an hour of SC but it came together with Table tennis. Bocce is a blast as well.

My right shoulder is getting stiff...

As someone earlier recommended, try to do some stretching exercises prior to playing...

After you beat certain characters it says stuff like "Unlocked ______ outfit" or something but I can't find any options or anything to change your character around? Or am I just missing something?

I have been since waking up after the first night. I may be going at it too hard as well, it gets so intense sometimes though. :) My girl and I were up until 3 last night playing Bocce :lol Very uncommon.

Another Kenji victim here.. Beating him for the first time felt great. I haven't a done a Tiger Woods fist pump in quite some time.

Pin Pong is my favorite.. did I just say that? Maybe it's a novelty I don't know. What I do now is I'm having a blast with it... Archery and Disc Golf are my second most played. I especially like Disc Golf because of the diverse environments.

Awesome game, great choice by Sony to pack this in.

In the character selection you can press O to change the outfits.

I had my second go at the demo earlier, feels awesome hitting a 100kmh smash in TT and the flame trail coming of the ball, got the hang of the disc golf too, i wasnt pointing enough first go on the release.

How is the Archery/Gladiator with just the one Move?

Been playing this for a few hours now, and I can't wait to see Nintendo's response to this. I love this motion battle shit they've started.

Also, I suck at table tennis serving :(

Dumb question how did you take a pic of you with your weapon?

You get to when you finish off one of the cups.

As for DLC: I want more Disc Golf courses. After starting out terrible, I'm now able to consistently hit "putts" from 75ft. But I demand more!

If you are referring to Wii HD i doubt that will happen.

No, I mean what they'll think of next now that there's something that works as well (if not better) on the market as Wii MotionPlus. I'm not seeing the whole "omgg this is X times more accurate" stuff some are boasting, but I'm honestly looking forward to the next step in motion controls.

And no, not Kinect :p

Bocce = Surprisingly fun. Interface reeks of Wii Sports (like bowling and golf smashed together).

DAT SPIN, though. :D

I also love that the trophy for playing your frist game is "I have heard of Bocce".
:lol

Table tennis is absolutely fantastic. The first time you physically step around a shot or reach in close to the net is when you realise this is motion control gaming done right. Even my wife (who usually hates videogames) is addicted.

Very impressive stuff and hopefully this is just the beginning for Move.

You need to stand with the exact same stance as the guy on screen. This is true of all events.

Do what they're doing, and everything works naturally.

if anything happens that will be for their next console and thats not happening anytime soon. unless they abandon the wii prematurely (which could be the case looking how bad the sales and thirdparty situation is.)

Just completed Gold Cup on Table Tennis and unlocked the Champion Cup. Fun :D

I have to say that the game (table tennis) has so much dept, really much more than i expected. Every character has its own style, and you have to adjust and play to beat their tactic.

I got my bundle on Friday and I'm extremely impressed so far!
I've only tried Disc Golf and Gladiator Duel but both are really fun.

I love Nintendo and their first-party Wii stuff, but they have some serious competition in terms of motion-gaming now!

btw, shooting from the hip totally fixed my archery issue. So, cheers for the advice!

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
Judging by the demo alone, Table Tennis is just insanely good. It's uncanny what they've accomplished and how seamless it works. I really wish they'd release these games as standalone PSN purchases so that I could buy it alone.

Finally managed to beat that kenji asshole in silver cup. Played two rounds of gold cup and it is like a whole different game with no assist. I got my ass kicked in the first match already.

So, Gold Cup means = Zero assistance, and Champion = Zero assistance with better AI?

No idea but I am scared of playing champion cup :lol

For anybody who tried the champion cup, do you still get the ball landing indicator that shows where the ball will land on the table?

Oh, well I don't think Nintendo will ever answer to this, since this is already an answer to Nintendo.

I guess the closest would be having a 'hardcore' game using these types of controls, like they are doing with Zelda.

well maybe the next step in this shallow sports minigame compilation battle is to provide not just a bunch of featureless individual sports mini-games, but actually flesh out each individual sport into the full deal. For example, like if you play a Virtual Tennis game, you'd get all the modes, rosters and gameplay you associate with tennis. Maybe these sports mini-game collections should move on from being tech demos into fully fleshed out versions of the individual sports they represent?

I'd be impressed with that. I actually like sports, but refuse to pay for shells of real sports games.

But really, first things first. Get some fucking online play in these goddamn games. It's 20-fucking-10, christ.

do you have a move

have you played this game beyond the demo

+ thats what the specialised sports title like tiger woods/virtua tennis/rockstar ping pong is for

shallow? Hell No.

Yes I have.

Jax said:

Exactly! And that's why I'll buy those games instead of this.

That's why I don't buy any mini-game compilation titles anymore. Mini-games are chunks of fuller games that aren't as fleshed out or as deep as their full fledged brothers. If I wanted to play chunks of full sports games, I'd just opt to play the full sports game instead. It's like in Wii Sports, why would I play their crap version of baseball over MLB whatever? It's just a homerun derby with automated fielding, terrible.

But anyway, like I said, if they just get a true online mode it'd be a vast improvement. That's all either Nintendo or Sony has to do to get a genuine leg up.

This is a pretty painful game for someone with a tear in his spinal cord and two torn discs along with Fibromyalgia. I actually had trouble getting up this morning because of it, so I guess I'm taking a day off. :lol

It's like there's an added realism mode for me as a gladiator. Now I slightly know how they feel after a fight minus the blood. :D

Like everyone else. Table Tennis is awesome. I love the fact how they keep taking the assist away as you progress. Cant wait for the championship cup.

Gladiator is the greatest sport (with dual controls). Very entertaining.
The harder you swing the more damage. And there's no way to fake it, you must swing!
Jump and character jumps. Duck and character repeats this.
Wait, what? You can make your character jump over enemy attacks by jumping? I thought that was just something the CPU player could do. Is it possible to do the spin slash thing that they do as well?

Just beat champions cup for archery!!! You get
Morrigan's (sp?) dark bow
for beating it.

It was seriously one of the hardest things I've done in a video game, it tested me both physically and mentally like no other.

Edit: This next holidays Sport Champions bundle:

...and the game must be doing good sales. The leaderboards servers are offline being pounded by unexpected traffic according to a message in the game menu.

As far as the mini-game versus full game thing, all I can say is I had 10x more fun playing disc golf in Sports Champions than I did playing the Tiger Woods demo. Now, that's probably unfair comparing a game in SC to a demo. But can anyone tell me if the overall experience in Tiger 11 is any better in the full game? I'm not being snarky, I honestly want to know. I was really interested in picking up Tiger 11 until I played the demo. It looked ugly and I didn't think it played especially well. It wasn't horrible or anything, but it just wasn't...I don't know...fun.

:lol did you have to go there OP?

Just popped in to say this game is AMAZING and it's a shame a lot of review outlets seemed to just write it off . It's a bit of a clone but who cares when it's soooooo much better than the original.

Disc Golf is crack.

Yeah, Sports Champions is Great. I must agree with you that reviewers simply wrote the game off. I kinda liken it to when the PSP came out and everyone compared the games to PS2 games so the reviews suffered, even though these were Portable games at a fraction of the cost of PS2 Games and were similar in quality.

Now, Sports Champions gets knocked in reviews for lack of depth and presentation, when the game is actually a $40 game (1/3 cheaper than most PS3 Games)that has a ton of depth (even a 4th Secret Difficulty for each sport) and doesn't even need a good presentation. The menu system simply works.

Sports Champions is easily around an 8/10 or 80% or higher type game in my opinion. It isn't perfect, but is a fantastic first entry into the world of Playstation Move.

I just lol'd, uhmm, out loud. That is funny! I had the cutest little picture after I won my Bronze Cup today in Table Tennis. Had my Ping Pong Paddle in One hand, My daughter in the other, we were both holding up our index finger like "We Are Number 1!" Then I realized I didn't have a Facebook Account Linked.

Do I link my facebook account in the XMB of my PS3? I couldn't find anywhere within the settings of Sports Champions to do this.

This game is sounding great. Gladiator especially sounds awesome.

I wish I had grabbed the bundle and sold the extra camera. I went with just a Move controller figuring I'd just play demos for now. =/

So how's archery with two Moves? It sounds like it actually makes it harder. Not that that is a bad thing since archery seems to be the most basic of the games with one Move, but the leaderboards are going to be dominated by people only using one Move.
