You're actually attempting to argue that FF7 wasn't seen as a major graphics showcase upon its release?

I thought FF2 looked like utter shit when I first saw it (first exposure to JRPG). Took me a while to appreciate the presentation.Segata Sanshiro said:Back then, I thought FFIV looked really plain with tiny sprites, and FFVI looked pretty good for an RPG but still not that great compared to other 16bit games at the time. thing is, I dont care if THIS game is on PSP, I just want to see devs giving the Wii system the attention its sales obviously deserve at this point and as it continues to sell out around the world. Devs really cannot ignore that forever. The lure of money is just too strong. And GOOD third party games do sell on Nintendo systems, as DS proves. But they cant be third or foruth string leftover team games. they must be high quality to the best of the devs ability. Besides, its not like its a huge gamble. Development is pretty cheap on Wii. Theres very little to lose.sypher said:I don't get what everyones problem is. Why is it a big deal if a company decides to put THEIR game on THEIR system of choice? Obviously they had a good reason to do so. There is no "LOL we sure got those DS/Wii/PS3/360 fans this time" when the decision is made.
And yes, sometimes a game company is always interested in the money. Sometimes they just want to make a good game and use what gives them that capability.

Exactly, and not only that, when you're a name like Final Fantasy and you have not one but multiple titles in the franchise coming to a system - that'll not only sell to the userbase, but push systems tooHcoregamer00 said:Gamecube and XBOX proves that sub 20 million selling consoles could have high selling games.
Of course the 100 million selling PS2 also proved that most games still sell like crap.

Well, let's be honest...FFIV's contemporaries were things like Super Castlevania IV, Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, & Final Fight. With SF2 not *really* all that far off. A couple of Mode 7 effects were not going to make up for the little postage-stamp size sprites on the overworld and the generally flat colours used throughout.TheJollyCorner said:Christmas must have been very, very challenging in your household...

Adorable. Now let me in on a secret - if you don't care if anyone takes what you have to say even the least bit seriously, why even bother saying anything?TheJollyCorner said:I'm sorry I've let you down. FFVI has aged considerably better, and I have more of an appreciation now for what they were doing tech-wise in that game, but I didn't exactly count colours at that age and the characters, while doubled up on the world map, still looked small and not really impressive next to the non-RPGs that were available at the time.
Both are a far cry from the graphics spectacle the series has become from 7 on.

Last Remnant, "next-gen consoles", released in US and Japan simultaneously with two different protagonists catering to each region, big ol' thread about it.speedpop said:Where's my original IP stuff Square?!

Actually it sounds like a really bad idea. Most FF fans would hate it, dating sims fan would hate it.Hcoregamer00 said:Final Fantasy dating sim because that WOULD BE SO COOL.

Fair enough. I think we can both agree that regardless of what was going on with the series pre-7, what the series is *now* known for is cutting edge visual entertainment. Worldwide the series may as well have started with 7 for the few of us that played the pre-7 installments at the time.TheJollyCorner said:I won't disagree with you about the last part. Production support from Sony (with 7), better worldwide exposure, and much larger budgets helped that for sure.
All I'm saying is that I was impressed with the graphics and presentation of FFIV in 1991 (I really only played sports games back then) and even more-so by FFVI in 1994.

With FFXI they could have REALLY used a hard drive, and had to wait around for six months or so for Sony to release one (they actually put it out first on the PC in the US for this reason). Then Sony turned around and yanked the plug by releasing the incompatible PSTwo.SolidSnakex said:That's true but i'd say there's one big difference, they could do everything they needed to do on the PS2, so they didn't need to venture out on those 2 platforms. With the handhelds they can get drastically different results visually with the PSP and drastically different results from a gameplay perspective with the DS. So if they can get things go saleswise on both platforms, they'll be able to hand out games on each platform and start raking in alot of money. People are acting like they're suddenly going to ignore the DS because they've announced their 2nd original PSP game for the system.
