Square Enix party: more confirmation about a new game

Back then, I thought FFIV looked really plain with tiny sprites, and FFVI looked pretty good for an RPG but still not that great compared to other 16bit games at the time. The games pushed tech, but not in the obvious ways that they have since.
I thought FF2 looked like utter shit when I first saw it (first exposure to JRPG). Took me a while to appreciate the presentation.

Jolly, you're having way too much fun with this thread considering you've run over your last bit of credibility like a mangy stray cat.

I don't get what everyones problem is. Why is it a big deal if a company decides to put THEIR game on THEIR system of choice? Obviously they had a good reason to do so. There is no "LOL we sure got those DS/Wii/PS3/360 fans this time" when the decision is made.

And yes, sometimes a game company is always interested in the money. Sometimes they just want to make a good game and use what gives them that capability.
thing is, I dont care if THIS game is on PSP, I just want to see devs giving the Wii system the attention its sales obviously deserve at this point and as it continues to sell out around the world. Devs really cannot ignore that forever. The lure of money is just too strong. And GOOD third party games do sell on Nintendo systems, as DS proves. But they cant be third or foruth string leftover team games. they must be high quality to the best of the devs ability. Besides, its not like its a huge gamble. Development is pretty cheap on Wii. Theres very little to lose.

PSP is only ~20 million sold worldwide. How on Earth could they make a dime off such terrible, inconcievably low numbers [/sarcasm]

that's one I've never heard :lol

I'll admit this thread is cathartic for me, but I just finished my last final and I need it.

someone else say something stupid!

I'm sorry I've let you down. I know I wore 'hardcore videogame credibility' like a shining cockhammer shield of glory... and goddamnit... I've blown it.

I let you all down.

"Fun"? The name of my final, pitiful lover.

Just don't tell my mistress, Jack Daniels. The two think they like to party together but actu... OH CREDIBILITY!

Gamecube and XBOX proves that sub 20 million selling consoles could have high selling games.

Of course the 100 million selling PS2 also proved that most games still sell like crap.

Nice.

Hope the FF summons speculation pans out.

We don't know anything about it, so everything is speculation. I hope this is a standalone game just because I rather not play any final fantasy before FF10 to remember the backstory.

This is quite possibly the stupidest thread in the past few weeks*. Do people ever get tired of just endlessly rehashing the same idiotic arguments over and over again?

not including threads involving the age-old question "why is Valkyrie Profile sidescrolling?"

What's pro-nintendo about asking a simple question: I was wowed at the visuals of FF XII, considering it was on hardware a shitton inferior to the current PCs at the time, and people were playing Gears of War at the same time as well. So why do Final Fantasy like games HAVE to be on HD hardware to due to 'presentation' purposes? Simply put, they're not. These aren't bitter tears over this PSP game, because at this point (after playing through all the remakes of FF1-FFVI and FFXII) I think I'm done with it for a while. It simply baffles me that HD hardware is REQUIRED for epic role playing games by some GAFfers definitions. I find that as peculiar as I find it wrong.

And I guess I was spoiled by the blur-o-vision-AA N64 in 1997, as well, because aside from the cutscenes I never thought FF7 was a visual showcase, even the day I purchased it for my PSX. I had always assumed that others felt the same way: gorgeous game, but not its real-time additions. The ugliness is evermore apparent if you try to boot up the 640x480 PC version.

Exactly, and not only that, when you're a name like Final Fantasy and you have not one but multiple titles in the franchise coming to a system - that'll not only sell to the userbase, but push systems too

I'm kinda worried about what kind of game Dissidia is going to be. "Dramatic Progressive Action" and the 2 lines of the teaser "Fantasy is Endless" "Fantasy has no Limitted Form."

Final Fantasy Sandbox game?

The better question is if they made platforming a big part of the game, why didn't they make it not suck?

Chaos was in a bunch of other FFs, not just FFI, but my first impression was Shiva & Ifrit, but since it has multiple arms and wings I can see it as Chaos. I suppose the girl could also be that princess or whatever instead of Shiva.

or they're dropping the number system?

at least as we've seen it done before, and the number system is used for groupings....or maybe not even.

it might get explained at the party...hopefully :p

Where there is RPGs, there will be console fanboys.

Well, let's be honest...FFIV's contemporaries were things like Super Castlevania IV, Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, & Final Fight. With SF2 not *really* all that far off. A couple of Mode 7 effects were not going to make up for the little postage-stamp size sprites on the overworld and the generally flat colours used throughout.

FFVI has aged considerably better, and I have more of an appreciation now for what they were doing tech-wise in that game, but I didn't exactly count colours at that age and the characters, while doubled up on the world map, still looked small and not really impressive next to the non-RPGs that were available at the time.

Both are a far cry from the graphics spectacle the series has become from 7 on.

You answered your own question, the VP thread was and still is the stupidest thread ever. No seriously, it was so dumb that I forgot about it until you put it in spoilers and I highlighted it. Now I remember that damn thread again, it is all your fault.

As I stated earlier, when PS1 and PS2 dominated nintendo fans kept on hearing that it was on Sony consoles because they were number 1. After hearing that for 10 years and being number 2 (so far) they haven't gotten the nice exclusives like their little handheld cousin. Since there is no way to cope with it, they just rehash old arguments to forget about it.

It works, I know from experience :D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't S-E say this party would be Nintendo-centric?

If so........

Not in those words, but some Square-Enix rep. mentioned there'd be something there to "make Nintendo owners happy" (or something like that).

There are just gonna be a lot of FF titles, most known, some unveiled...

...none exposed visually to those not attending the party thanks to S-E's horseshit ****ing closed-theater hoo-ha! -___-

They already went off on a good start, my PSP is like 3 weeks old and stuff like this make me happy that it will come out
in 2008

They'll put video up on their site, I think the Dissidia announcement proves that much.

Wait... Closed theator? We won't know anything about these games when they're announced?

Square I swear, I will find you and hurt you lots.

welll...who knows? They released images of this Last Remnant game, but they will probably have tons of stuff on this because it is a new IP and unproven...everybody knows FF, everybody who likes it will buy it (or pretty much) so they wont show anything...

peace

I won't disagree with you about the last part. Production support from Sony (with 7), better worldwide exposure, and much larger budgets helped that for sure.

All I'm saying is that I was impressed with the graphics and presentation of FFIV in 1991 (I really only played sports games back then) and even more-so by FFVI in 1994.

They better release stuff for it, I want to see another female lead like the mainline FF13.

Last Remnant, "next-gen consoles", released in US and Japan simultaneously with two different protagonists catering to each region, big ol' thread about it.

EDIT: LAST dammit.

Final Fantasy dating sim because that WOULD BE SO COOL.
Actually it sounds like a really bad idea. Most FF fans would hate it, dating sims fan would hate it.

Of course if you simply have the hots for FF girls... I'll leave it there. :)

No, there is no big dating sims released for the USA.

The fact that it is Final Fantasy would make it the most MAINSTREAM of the dating sims.

Fair enough. I think we can both agree that regardless of what was going on with the series pre-7, what the series is *now* known for is cutting edge visual entertainment. Worldwide the series may as well have started with 7 for the few of us that played the pre-7 installments at the time.

That's true but i'd say there's one big difference, they could do everything they needed to do on the PS2, so they didn't need to venture out on those 2 platforms. With the handhelds they can get drastically different results visually with the PSP and drastically different results from a gameplay perspective with the DS. So if they can get things go saleswise on both platforms, they'll be able to hand out games on each platform and start raking in alot of money. People are acting like they're suddenly going to ignore the DS because they've announced their 2nd original PSP game for the system.

With FFXI they could have REALLY used a hard drive, and had to wait around for six months or so for Sony to release one (they actually put it out first on the PC in the US for this reason). Then Sony turned around and yanked the plug by releasing the incompatible PSTwo.

The XBox already had a hard drive, and that might have worked really well for FFXI, but... The userbase in Japan was pitiful, and so they stuck with Sony's half-assed solution.

PSP development is expensive, or so we assume since it is far more powerful than a DS. That means that it would cost lots of money assuming they aren't recycling the Crisis Core engine.
