played some 2.4... man oh man, this game is literally trying to be the end all be all of games. I can't wait. I just need friends to play this with, or a crew to join.

Some ships are limited to specific hangers for now as well.

My 315 is locked to a hanger. My Freelancer is locked to a hanger. Other ships aren't tied to a specific hanger and can be paired with the ones that ARE locked as long as there is space to fit more than one ship.

imo, this is also frustrating, but I guess it's the price of this being early alpha.

Haven't experienced that hangar locking thing. Can't test it either as I own neither of those ships. (Which is an accomplishment really, as there's not many that I don't have lol.)

There is the GAF org. =P

OK. I was wrong. The only thing keeping me from having my two ships in either hanger together is that the Freelancer Max is a size 4 ship. I think if it was a size 3 I could have both the 315p and the Freelancer there at the same time.

And for whatever reason the "attached to" part when you select the ship doesn't mean anything.

Off topic.

The Freelancer Misc looks WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than my MAX. :(

So...we can carry the clips in Olisar, but not the guns. Gotcha.[/IMG]

*magazines*

I think that is mainly how they do the weapon selection / weapons with the older / new port system. To have ammo you need it physically on your character.

And they also give everyone 3 carbine mags regardless of whether or not you actually have it bought or equipped.

I haven't been keeping up with the Freelancer, and I'm on my phone right now, but I assume it's in the same state as the Constellation: base variant updated and all other variants using the old models. Until all variations of the hull are updated, there's no point in visually comparing them. My Phoenix looks like shit now in comparison, but it's only a matter of time before it looks as awesome as the base Constellation.

Free Flight started:
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/promotions/Gamescom-Free-Fly-2016
The code is GAMESCOM2016
Includes Mustang Gamma, Sabre and Freelancer.
Reddit has a nice beginner guide up:
https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/4y4fvh/free_flight_megathread_faq_beginners_guide/

(existing accounts can use the code to try those ships too)

I am happy they chose the gamma and not the beta. Getting in and out of the beta with the current use system is a massive exercise in frustration and glitchy view angles.

Damn you hobbin's hole.

Gamescom new info summary via INN
So far:
  • [Will there be DirectX 12 or Vulkan support?] They are investigating future-proofing with DirectX and Vulkan – undecided whether they will go with one or both.
  • [Will we see anything regarding Star Marine?] They will not be showcasing Star Marine during the five-days stream on the showfloor. It is on track for 2.6. This doesn’t rule out it appearing on the Friday night party.
  • Disco has just shown off the PC Guru magazine front cover that has a photo of Mark Hamill in-game on it.
  • The Starmap is NOT complete. There are systems that have not been discovered and are not on the Starmap.

There was a 24gb file that started to download...got about 4gb into the dl then it simply stopped. Sorry for the false alarm.

2.5 is live, but yeah that happens at times with the launcher for some reason. Just pause and restart it aftr a bit or restar tthe client, go to live, and verify gamefiles for it to restart.

edit: or is it?

It was just a new launcher. Apparently some people were having issues with 2F Auth. They wouldn't put out 2.5 during the free fly week.

Hm, might be getting these ... in time. Looks like a solid, well-built product. As expected from Dictator's people.

Looks like one of the most German products ever. Niche market? Check. High quality build materials? Check. Tight tolerances and probably overcalculated? Check. Awfully expensive for what it actually does? Check.

I don't know about this one. They're not really ripping you off, but it's so expensive compared to what you actually need. Or do you get two of these for €100?

Ah lol, it's for one mount only. Yeah, that's too much. I thought it was for two.

Any other good joystick / HOTAS table mounts out there?

There has to be a 28 syllable word for this, just need to think of it. brb

So, that new ship is getting pretty clear now:

Looks pretty good actually. I got a reliant a couple days ago with that $10 off coupon, but I think I might just have to get this ship instead.

Man, teach your kids to play Star Citizen and Magic: The Gathering and they'll never have money to buy drugs. Or food. Or even other vital supplies.

Dictator died while searching in his dictionary.

Huh, whatever it is, it does look cool. I wouldn't mind one but I don't wanna trade in my Reliant and my Connie is my original pledge with all the goodies in there too so that's staying. Damnit I can't pledge more! I guess I'll be waiting until we can rent or buy ships via credits.

That looks kinda cool.

Just reminds how basic and lame the Connie is. 😭

Guards, please escort this gentleman to the brig. If you so happen to push the 'flush to space' button, I'll be sure to write it down as an accident.

LOL.

It's true though, it's just a big metal tube. (like the freelancer)

If you ignore the 4 engine pods that stick out from that "tube", and all the other minor details, sure. By that logic though, so are most of the ships. Just like planes are tubes with wings, and cars are boxes with wheels. It's all how you stylize the elements. Personally I think the general Constellation silhouette is rather iconic, and the latest update makes it an awesome looking ship all around. I'm really looking forward to what the other variants will look like (particularly the Phoenix, since that was so polarizing the first time around).

I mean you're free to dislike the styling, but I don't think it's inherently any more basic than the other ships.

the constellation's general silhouette is a bunch of lumps of metal lumped onto more lumps of metal

and it's a boring tube inside. shy knows what's up

What's the current state of this game? Shits starting to get bonkers now? Hype AF?

It's slowly all starting to come together. We'll find out more tomorrow afternoon!

What happens tomorrow afternoon?

Sean Murray gets publicly executed.

There's a Star Citizen live event scheduled at Gamescom. We'll get to see some of the things CIG have been working on lately, mainly procedural planets tech, maybe the FPS module (Star Marine) and possibly a surprise or two.
