Does a majority of this game take place in the ships? I've been watching this stream for 30 minutes, I have yet to see some ground footage. :(

The stream quality is amazing though, thanks for the link.

There is ground footage, there was a lot before the space battles he is in now. Had to fix a ship, because it was taken over by enemies, but couldn't because the warp core was exploding, so he had to leave, and evacuate the people on board.

He also beamed onto a jungle planet, which killed his fps, and battled some there.

I think there is a good mix between ground and ship battles. Just came at a bad time.

I want to see the following about the game.

1. PVP
2. Economy.
3. Player run fleets.

I am hoping it's a bit like EVE, but from what I have been hearing, the game is shit.

So I get up and the game has FINALLY downloaded. Quite excited to play it at this point as my buddy has played some last night and was nothing but positive about it.

Of course when I try to launch the game I get an error.

Upon some research alot of people are getting the same error and the main solution seems to be deleting files to force the patcher to redownload them. Of course said files are all at least a GB usually more.

I recently tried out Champions Online and had a terrible time trying to get it to work and now I'm having the same experience with Star Trek. I realise not everyone is having issues but it doesn't really fill me with confidence.

Hopefully I'll actually get to play this before the beta bloody finishes.

LOL Cryptic. I doubt it'll ever be anything REMOTELY like EVE.

I'm getting really disappointed in what they can accomplish. Champions was an ENORMOUS letdown, sadly. Too much for too little, messed up mechanics, wanted to be City of Heroes meets WoW (but it really doesn't work for them).

I'm doubtful Star Trek Online will be any different.

That looks terribly awkward to me. The animations are not fluid at all. Nice designs on the ground but i think this will turn out to be disappointing. Which is too bad it could fill the time until TOR comes out.

Pretty good youtube channel worth of stuff. Character creator looks awesome! So tempted to just preorder off of Steam and be done with it.
Oh cool, thank you for posting. Nice quality videos and I can watch them full screen at 1920x1080 resolution and it looks great! It's like I'm playing the beta just without any control whatsoever. :lol

I ended up getting a friend to send me the downloader and I let it download over night. I'm all set to go for Tuesday, unless they add a patch between now and then.

I wonder how much "unknown" space there is to explore in this game. I actually want to seek out new life and new civilizations far more than I want to battle Klingons.

I watched the stream for a bit last night. Can't say it really got me all that excited. Ground combat looks monotonous as hell. Space combat looked fun though. Graphics did look good, especially for an MMO, and the sound effects fit the theme. I hope one of my friends gets the deluxe version with guest passes, I would like to try it out. I haven't gotten into an MMO in years and it would be fun to get back into a quality one.

This will actually be my first ever MMO. Main reason I'm getting into it is because I'm a HUGE Trek fan. It'll tide me over until KOR comes out, whenever that will be.

Is Star Trek music really that depressing? With all the 80s guitar licks and synths? It sounds like a bad bar band doing a sound check. The game doesn't look all that bad but the music is killing me.

The problem is with Cryptic's attitude towards development of MMOs. There's an interview with Jack Emmert in which he pretty much says that people don't want to wait for a perfect game, that they would rather have an imperfect game if that means they could play it sooner (thus that is his philosophy with developing MMOs).

I much prefer the "when it's done" mentality of game development.

The CoX games are on my list of top MMOs that I have ever played, it's too bad it doesn't look like Cryptic will be able to copy that success (well, they didn't with Champions, it's still too early to tell with STO but if Emmert's design philosophy is the same throughout Cryptic then I just don't see too much hope).

Jack Emmert: “If I sit back and wait for it to be perfect, frankly people aren’t going to wait around for it..."

3 of the most powerful ships in the game

The first one looks good but the other two are barftastic. I think so many people are going to stick with the canon ship designs.

Well the first one, everyone is use to it. I just wonder if the second one can shoot death star beams like species 8472.

Wow, those ships are ugly. First one isn't even that great. Still, I'm pretty excited for this. I have had no experience with Champions Online or its problems but this looks pretty damn good.

Thankfully you can design your own ship by bolting on parts from various other ships. So the saucer from this, the nacels from that, the struts from there, etc...

No, not at all.

I remember someone mentioning on the stream in chat last night that from Closed Beta to Open Beta there will be a 3GB patch. Seems a lot of bugs/glitches will be fixed, and what not.

Also a new stream is up from someone playing. It's not as good looking, off a webcam, but if you want a gander, here is your shot; for those that keep missing it.

This stream has almost sold me on the game. Pretty epic space battle going on.

The space combat is a *lot* of fun for a dude like me who still is playing Starfleet Command 10 years after release.

The ground stuff is pretty janky, but thankfully it seems to be pretty minor compared to the space stuff. Like a 80/20 split between space and land.

I would really like some strong away missions that don't necessarily have a lot of combat.

Land missions currently break down to either "Kill a bunch of dudes while hitting some switches" or "Run around a big open area interacting x number of nicknacks."

:(

I was hoping for some huge "explore massive planets" type quests. please tell me this isn't set up as fetch quest->space battle->fetch quest-repeat over and over?

More like Space Battle -> Space Battle -> Scan some stuff in Space -> Land stuff for 5 minutes - Space Battle -> Big Space Battle.

I really want a sci-fi MMO that has a balanced mix of good space combat and good planet exploration/combat.

so the combat is almost entirely in space with ships?

Well I was watching that justin tv stream for a while. The dude went on an away mission for an hour killing a load of klingons.

So I don't know about the claim of all space battles.

Ground environments look bland. Space looks fantastic though. Most battles in Trek do happen in space so I understand the emphasis on it.

Look on the bright side. You'll be able to play the first twenty levels of the game six months after it flops on release.
