Seems that way. Nothing we've seen in trailers is inconsistent with the leaks. I guess this is what we will get, unless there's some insane fakeout planned.
Just like people where calling an always on Xbox console with kinect in box a fake thing

Trailer looks pretty damn good, im excited!

Before 2015 I never thought my love for star wars could actually be revived but JJ did it.

i think there is also some of the mechanical arm that moves him around in this. LOL. it really is like a theme park now! animatronic Palpatine. they might as well put it in Galaxy's Edge.

this trailer feels like confirmation of most of the leaks, only it also looks so drab and uninspired on top of things. the Death Star fight in the water looks very muddy and not very interesting to me. the whole idea is very lackluster.

Rey being all mad all the time, I guess that means she is Palpatine's granddaughter, like the leaks say? so they are straight up going to give him the Skywalker legacy? make the reason for all her powers cos of her grandfather? Rey Random people will be so disappointed. so the force isn't available to anyone? to be really good u have to be related to the Senate? what kind of a retcon is that? sorry broom kid maybe Palps knocked up your mom maybe he didn't.

i dunno. maybe. thankfully, i don't care what they do, cos it sounds and looks like it's going to be stupid and uninspired hackery as usual.
I think they are hoping this is the big AHA gotcha moment. Like Luke I am your father or Kaiser Sosey. But instead its really lame and will be mocked for decades. Everyone is going to be WTH Palps was Rey's grandfather this whole thing makes no sense. Its going to be Midachlorines v2. They will probably retcon within months of the movie being released and in a few years no one will talk about how Rey was related to Palps just like everyone wants to forget about midachlorines.

Its the only hook for the movie because we know it being the end of the trilogy that Palpetine is not going to win, of course the resistance wins. We know Rey is not going to lose to Kylo after kicking his ass twice now. Luke/Leia/Han are dead. I guess we should care with 3PO being killed. I think Chewie will bite the big one too, why not. So what reason is there to see this movie? There are no stakes and Rey is already super Jedi.

The leaks were true but the movie is still being filmed and edited. So its possible some of the parts of the leaks won't pan out because Disney is still changing things.

This whole movie is a mess I hope it bombs, but enough people will go see it that it will rake in the dough.

RT score 99% Audience score 25%.

Now in 5 years or 10 years will anyone still remember Rey and Poe and Finn and Rose Tico? Or even BB-8?

Luke and Han were legends. 40 years later and people still remember Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. Even Leia is still revered, especially with her sexy slave outfit. 3P0 and R2 may be some of the most iconic robots in history. And if someone lets out a Chewie yell everyone knows instantly what it is. No one will care about any of these star wars characters in a few years. They won't stand the test of time. Heck barely anyone cares about Rey now and they did everything to make her into the greatest and bestest.

I wish Palps would just kill Kylo and Rey and destroy the resistance. Now that would be a great way to end the trilogy. Kill off everyone and have Palps erase them from history so no Poe/Finn/Rose/Holdo/Rey/Kylo all gone. Palps should retcon the whole thing. Imagine the end of the movie Palps is standing on Tatoine with the twin suns telling his minion to erase all mention of those guys from every space log and space communication while he buries Rey and Kylo 20 feet underground. I bet that would get a standing ovation LOL.

more leaked images. guess this might be real?

I'm out.... this is fucking retarded. Like the distastfully bad deragotory meaning for the word retarded not the early 1900's definition, I don't wish to insult mentally challenged individuals by associating them with this film in any way

I wonder if these leaks are intentional just to get reaction so JJ can finally pick his multiple choice edits.

Yep, gonna watch this for sure now. Was indifferent before, but now. I cannot miss this spectacle, shitshow or not.
That's what I'm saying. TLJ already killed this trilogy, so might as well have Sheev show up and do some serious trolling and cackling. UNLIMITED POWAH

So luke and leia will do a goku kameha on cell, sort of.

Pretty shitty end to a shitty handled franchise . I don't know why we need rogue one or solo. Those 2 films could have been better allocated to new world building but nope

Blame JJ all you want RJ fanbois, but imo the handlers of the new triology needs to be fired for wasting 2 films slot on nostalgia. And JJ had nothing to do with them.

But Rogue One was decent enough and the only good Star Wars that we've had from Disney.

It was actually a 'war' film, had cool cameos, dogfighting/star ship porn, and felt like it captured the spirit of the OT without completely ripping off the OT (like TFA)

Solo was def unecessary though.
Maybe they could have introduced a droid or alien in Rogue One that survived and could be used in later films for 'world building' but I actually really liked the fact that everyone died to sell the bleakness of the struggle of the Rebels.

Rogue One wasn't perfect but it was a decent movie and not a waste of time in my opinion.

I'd also argue that TFA and TLJ wasted more on nostalgia than Solo or Rogue One. Both Solo and Rogue One actually managed to feel different than other Star Wars movies where as TFA and TLJ reused so much old shit from the OT.

+1 to this.

I'm my humble opinion, Rogue One is the second best Star Wars film. From best to worst:

The Empire Strikes Back
Rogue One
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
The Force Awakens
Revenge of the Sith
Solo
Attack of the Clones
The Last Jedi
The Phantom Menace

Completely +1 on everything you wrote.
The only thing I hated on Rogue One was the "Vader"-Fanboy-Porn at the end, which felt unnecessary.

edit: My list:
The Empire Strikes Back
Rogue One
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
Solo
The Force Awakens
The Phantom Menace
Revenge of the Sith
The Last Jedi
Attack of the Clones

As much as I hate TLJ, AotC is simply one of the worst movies I have ever seen in a cinema.

I actually agree with the top half of your list. I think the last Jedi is better than the phantom menace which is better than attack of the clones, but lets face it none of those 3 are great

We doing fave' lists now? Okay:

1. A New Hope (A classic film that can stand on it's own)
2. Empire Strikes Back (Better character development, but not quite as fun)
3. Return of The Jedi (A fitting end to the Skywalker saga)
4. Phantom Menace (Despite it's flaws. It has enough good moments to keep interest)
5. Revenge of The Sith (Good moments, but looks like a videogame cut-scene)
6. Rogue One (An interesting attempt at a prequel. Great visuals)
7. Solo (Just meh)
8. Attack Of The Clones (A few nice moments, but mostly trash that looks like a PS2 game)
9. Force Awakens (Poor remake of Ep4. But now with magical girl who is a plank of wood)
10. The Last Jedi (Fuck this shit)

Rogue One... a vaguely interesting two minute sequence dragged out for an entire movie. Just watch that Youtube video of the end of RO and the beginning of A New Hope spliced together. That's all you need to watch. Well, that pretty much sums up this dumb franchise at this point.

Listed Best to Worst (in my opinion)

1. A New Hope - The classic Star Wars. Made even better by the quality of ESB & RotJ.
2. Empire Strikes Back - brilliant follow up to the original SW. Basically "how to do a sequel 101".
3. Return of the Jedi - A significant drop in quality and focus overall but still good in the context of the trilogy. Star Wars should have ended here.
4. The Force Awakens - Yes, it's a rehash of the original. The franchise needed a competent, good, comeback so they had to play it safe. Sets up enough for the others to build on.
5. Revenge of the Sith - A competent enough movie. Was already fighting an uphill battle after the crap that was Ep1 & Ep2.
6. Rogue One - If you want to make a Darth Vader movie then just make one. Movie is competent but totally weightless in Star Wars context.
7. The Phantom Menace - It's poor but at the very least it's Star Wars. Some good ideas. Impressive effects etc by 1999 standards.
8. Solo - A completely pointless movie. It's not terrible but in the context of Star Wars it's not bringing anything to the table.
9. Attack of the Clones - A total shambles of a movie. No lessons learned from Episode One. Cringey awful romance story. Plot basically goes nowhere.
10. The Last Jedi - The Star Wars movie that wanted to be a "critique" of Star Wars and fans of Star Wars, for some reason. End result is just an bizarre, smug, mess.

Rogue One is alright when you don't think about it. the movie itself is incredibly stupid. why does Forrest Whitaker just stand there and let himself die? he's a Rebel extremist for years and now he's just going to stand and let himself get exploded? why are the rebels trying to assassinate Galen after he's already completed the Death Star? wouldn't it make sense to capture him for info? ah, but Cassian is on a secret mission to kill him. then he decides not to, out of the... goodness of his heart? then the rebels fly in and bomb the place minutes later killing the guy anyways? just wtf was the plan for any of this?

it's a fine movie to sit and watch if you turn your brain off. but i think it's only rated because the other Disney films are so bad by comparison. RO tries it's best to not screw up the OT and succeeds, ironically, given it is the most direct ANH ripoff even more than TFA.

my rankings

Empire
A New Hope
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi
Attack of the Clones
The Phantom Menace
The Force Awakens
The Last Jedi

For me it just represents yet another wasted opportunity for a potentially great Star Wars movie.

They clearly understand the popularity of Darth Vader or they would not have him enter the movie in the last few minutes.
So why not just create a movie that is about Darth Vader hunting down the stolen plans?

Open with the plans being stolen and then work from there.

I think every Star Wars since RotJ has basically done this thing where they tease WAY more interesting stories and then deliver something that's a bit flat.
Revenge of the Sith. Let's put Vader on screen for about a minute at the very end. Why?
The Force Awakens. Luke is missing. Let's find Luke. What happened to Luke? Oh he's standing by a cliff? The End!
Solo. Here is a really slow and plodding and weightless movie. Hey, did you know Darth Maul is still around and is some kind of crime lord?
WTF?

I can't be the only one who watched that closing scene of Rogue One and thought "hang on I want to see THIS movie".

Although I like Rogue One I do see where you're coming from here.
There seems to be so much wasted potential in these new movies. Seems like the people running the show are completely clueless about what the fans actually want. It's even more frustrating when they tease cool shit and then take it away before we can enjoy it.

oh i think they know. i'd say they are too aware tbh. artists should never prioritize the audience over the art. when you change your art to match what you think an audience will want to see, that is dumbing it down. you are no longer making art, you are making product, designed specifically for a market.

the "problem" with Lucas in the PT was he didn't really care that much about audience expectations. yeah people likely wanted mean killer Vader for all 3 episodes, but that wasn't the story he wanted to tell, and the PT era had so much more to go into in addition to Vader's fall (Anakin's innocence, Obi Wan's adventures, rise of the Empire, rise of Palpatine). more and more I respect Lucas's decisions to go with his guts and ignore the criticism. in the long run it will pay off.

the new guys, i'd say they are entirely too concerned with fan expectations. JJ quite obviously, just throwing references non-stop at people. RJ was entirely too concerned as well, and it ruined his movie, when he could have just done something new, rather than address fan expectations. from JJ's recent comments, it sounds like he is second guessing his own second guesses and trying to let the fans decide the plot. IMO this is the worst way to write any media. a creator needs to have their own vision. leaning on the audience's is not a way to create anything new.

Who am I to NOT jump on board when we start doing lists?

5 > 4 > 3 > RO > 6 > Solo > 7 > 2 > 1 > TCW > 8

I'm joking about the animated Clone Wars movie coming in ahead of 8.... maybe.... or am I? I used to rank TLJ above 1 and 2 just because it "was known" that those two are the worst. But I rewatched them earlier this year after not having watched them since before TFA came out, and you know what? They're okay. Lots of fun scenes and sequences, and lots of good world building.

I don't HATE 8 as a movie. It's entertaining, and a solid 6 out of 10 (using the full 0 to 10 scale). It's just a bad Star Wars movie, and completely ruined any possible trilogy arc while retroactively making 7 worse (probably would have ranked 7 above at least Solo prior to TLJ screwing it up... while it had its problems, there was enough setup there for reasonable potential for the trilogy even if not ideal).

If I had to guess, 9 will slot in between 7 and 2 on the above list, though it's possible it could exceed my expectations and en dup slotting in between 6 and Solo instead. But no higher. We'll see.

i just started watching the show this year. the two episode arc with Anakin rescuing R2 where R2 is tortured for information and has to fight off an evil droid was 100x better than anything in the ST.

The Clone Wars show is largely solid. Several really good arcs. But TCW movie (2008) is not very good. The show itself is largely much better.

Not else much to do, so here's my list
  • Empire (hors concurs)
  • ANH (Awesome, specially if you consider that it's a 70's movie)
  • ROTJ (probably the first one that i ever saw, and the space battle in this movie is awesome. Cut the ewoks out of and probably would be ahead of ANH)
  • Revenge of the sith (Even with all problems still a good movie)
  • TFA and Rogue (TFA is a solid entry, and rogue one got his position just for the last battle, the best of the entire series)
  • AoTC (that CGI...)
  • TLJ (at leat this one you remember that's bad movie)
  • Solo (so remarkable the i can't remember clearly a single scene)
  • Phantom menace
Expecting ep. 9 to be at least above TFA/Rogue, but not that much. No one is really gone care for rey, finn, poe etc.

Going by personal favorites:

AOTC > TESB > ANH > ROTS > TPM > ROTJ

TFA > TLJ > RO

I don't consider the Disney stuff to be SW but if I did they would all rank behind ROTJ.

So far all the leaked scenes look too blue. Death Star in ocean is blue. Palpating throne is blue. Animatronic emperor room is blue. Ice planet is blue. Like a holdover from the Teal and Orange trope.

One thing I liked about the old sets is they had little coloured lights and stuff. Can we get some eerie green lights on these walls here? It’s fantasy does it have to look so four? Everything has to look like Game of Thrones now.

The Vader twist worked because of what Obi-Wan told Luke about his father.
Was Sheev even mentioned in the new movies?
This is like the Hans Landa twist in the latest Bond except even worse lol

They wanted clean modern design to keep the PT -> OT progression (1920s phone to 1960s phone) but the art is shit. Oblivion is a movie that does this clean modern design really well.

interesting. PT was indeed very art deco, operatic, Metropolis & Flash Gordon, 1920s inspired. OT yeah was more about 60s genre cinema, Luke as sort of a hot headed kid a la American Graffiti, which had Han Solo racing cars instead of spaceships. as the PT referenced the dawn of serial films & pulp literature, the OT referenced the genre media of the 60s (sci fi/western/fantasy/monster movies). together the two trilogies explore the evolving aesthetics distinct periods in the history of genre cinema.

so the new stuff is...? it's not modern style. if the look was clean and high tech like an iPhone or modern computers, Playstation 4 style, that would be Current style, and possibly an interesting look applied to spaceships. FO could be using tablets and glass interfaces and VR and stuff. but no, they are all stuck in the 80s. they are basing the designs on the OT. they are self referential, that is why the designs have suffered. that is why it feels like a regression. the series has a natural progression of art styles until the ST, where it is frozen (literally, according to spoilers).

Prequels are GOAT.
1-6 are my head canon (even though I hate 6) and everything else is fan fiction.
Could not be less excited for Episode 9 considering the last 2 movies have failed to get me invested and JJ 'no creativity' Abrams is back directing.

I certainly understand what you're saying and I agree that an artist probably shouldn't pander entirely to an audience, especially to the point where it feels extremely forced (like TFA) and becomes a detriment to inventive storytelling.

At the same time an artist should at least understand their target audience to a degree. Sometimes it feels like the people making Star Wars films now don't really understand their core audience enough to capitalise on some of the cool ideas that they do actually come up with.

These films do have some redeeming qualities but they mostly feel like hugely wasted potential.

I really liked and still like Attack of the Clones. Not only is it my favorite prequel movie but also my second favorite Star Wars movie after the original.

Most prequel hate is because of RLM, which created a cottage industry on YouTube of hating on the prequels. It was $$$ to hate on them.

Now ATOC is still shit with horrible CGI, but Phantom Menace and Sith aren't that bad. All though Phantom Menace would of been a lot better with no Jake Lloyd, making Anakin more Lukes age. Also would of saved us from Hayden since Anakin would of been cast earlier.

The prequels came out at the perfect time for complaining. The internet was just taking off and people were looking for content. It gave an outlet for nitpickers to complain about the smallest things and you had a bunch of manbabies who grew up with Star Wars able to vent online.
Don't talk shit, people hated the prequels before the Internet was even mainstream.

I went to see phantom and I detested it.

I skipped Clones at the cinema

I had a free ticket to Revenge for the cast and crew at Leicester Square Odeon before release, and after the credits it was silence, people got up and left.

They sucked.

Here we go, Rey is so great they had to resurrect Palpatine, so they can have her kill him all over again,

Is Kathleen Kennedy the biggest c*nt in Hollywood, or what? Asking for a friend...

Wait, Palps looks exactly the same?!
I thought that after he was thrown down that giant shaft and exploded like a nuclear bomb, he would at least have taken a little surface damage.

Like maybe get a bit creative with his design rather than rolling out the same old thing?

Fucking hell.

I hope he 'transfers his essence' into Rey's body at the end of the movie and, after she absorbs his dark side load, she transitions from a woman to a wrinkly old man with saggy breasts.

Go on Disney, go full woke and stick some transgender issues in this please.
Think of the children.
