Star Wars The Force Awakens: SALARY, how much they got paid.

He took a 6 year break after Jedi, went to Broadway. When you see Hamill, you see Luke Skywalker and was type-casted as a result. A damn shame. Luckily, he found a niche as a voice actor, where you don't see his face. He played Amadeus on Broadway and when it was being made into a movie, a movie studio executive told the people making the film, "I don't want Luke Skywalker in this film".

Jeeze, I have no idea how film salaries work, but the difference between Ford (Or even Fisher) and Boyega and Ridley who have many more scenes than the others and have to do a lot more work, makes it seem like they got a raw deal.

It is because of Disney Chris Hemsworth keeps being able to do bomb after bomb.

One movie bombs, and he does his Thor thing, and they forget the dude isn't a draw.

Studio executives aren't rational actors.

There are thousands of actors in L.A. that would have played Finn and Rey for free just for the publicity and guaranteed future jobs

IIRC Sir Ian McKellen got a really good percentage of the gross from LOTR. I remember him giving the number when he was on Conan before ROTK came out. Maybe 3%?

Hamill lost in a motorcycle crash.
Damn. Didn't know that. :/

But he still could have gotten work based on him being in some of the biggest movies of all time.

A better agent does the trick.

Consider Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love.

Not only that, hamill has always been a huge nerd and a voice actor even before Star Wars.

The fact that he has been working, and not being a wreck speak volumes on how much he does love his work. Of course I'm sure he'd love to be paid millions too though :p

300K is about what I'd expect for unknown actors. They'll be making bank by the time Episode 8 and 9 come around.

Boyega and Ridley will make money from the resume boost than the actual cash amount.

Will they really though? The movies are filming so close to each other they don't have much time for productions in between. When it's done they will also be so identifiable as their SW roles that the typecasting would limit their work.

The more shocking thing to me is JJ salary. The most important piece of the puzzle and most integral to getting people to even care about the franchise for the long haul only gets 3.3?

And 2% of the gross. Thats not less.

Thats fucking 60million if the movie reaches 3billion lol

Wow, so they're really following the Marvel approach on these, huh? This one's just like the first Avengers: sign the main guy for million and millions, give all the other others peanuts. I thought I read somewhere that Hemsworth only made $30,000 or something to be Thor in the first Avengers, while RDJ made millions. Seems like they're walking in those same footsteps here. It's really unfortunate for the new talent, but it is true that these movies will undoubtedly launch their careers into the stratosphere. Whether that is a substitute for fair compensation is an honest question, but it is definitely something to be considering.

I don't agree at all about Ford being critical. Hamill is way more important to the lore. If Disney doesn't agree I am afraid of Episode 8

Agreed. I figured if they couldn't get Ford for this movie they'd just
casually mention his history and death between 6 and 7 and perhaps have Leia fill in his for his role and die at the end of EP7 or perhaps EP8.

The career boost Boyega and Ridley will get from TFA will more than make up for the relatively paltry sum they were paid, assuming they manage their careers wisely.

whats wrong with this? don't know the story behind it

Basically movie studios set each movie up as a private entity. The studio then "charges" that movie X amount to distribute the move where X is slightly more than the movie made. That way the studio makes the money on paper but the movie then loses money on paper and they no longer have to pay actors who only make a % of the profits.

Oh wow, that is shitty

300k is still more than Jonah Hill's role in Wolf of Wall Street which was around 3 hour movie and he was almost half of it. Worked his socks off as well.

Perspective guys!

I wonder if the gross amounts apply to worldwide gross or only domestic with a different rate for international. As people have pointed out, the studios take from China is much lower.
