Star Wars The Force Awakens: SALARY, how much they got paid.

So Ford is to Star Wars as Robert Downey Jr is to Marvel, at least in Disney's eyes.
please do not click this if you haven't seen the movie.

for now. disney shows no signs of wanting to kill off iron man any time soon, but they did exactly that with han solo.
so I can't say the analogy works here.

Can we keep spoilers in the spoiler thread. I haven't even seen the movie.

I'm mad.

Not really.

Seriously though!?$+4-$-

Only £300,000 and a cut of the profits? Boega and Daisy are pretty much unpaid interns. We should organise a food drive so they don't starve to death.

seems fair.

The high profile stars (biggest name in the industry) gets paid highest wage.

Newcomers (nobodies) get a starter pack and worldwide recognition + Future opportunities.

Everybody wins.

I don't think that typecasting is as big a deal these days. I'm not saying that Ridley and Boyega are destined to be big openers but there are a lot more "respectable" venues for actors now. There is nothing wrong if they end up being a part of a TV series when these films are all over.

And Oscar Isaac is already on fire in his career and really has no worries at all. Dude's going to be around for the long haul and he's got the charisma to even potentially end up with a DiCaprio or McConaughey career.

Further, no one from the prequels was really typecast. Portman and McGregor don't lack for work. Christensen may really be the only unfair victim but I don't know enough about his career to know if he's voluntarily on the outs. Jumper certainly didn't help him, that's for sure. And his case isn't about typecasting anyway.

I don't think The Force Awakens needed Han to be wildly successful. I'm not even sure Luke was necessary.

You don't understand the pull Ford had/has on the previous generation, bro.

Maybe he wasn't needed to be successful, but I doubt it would be AS successful without him.

Ironic how Carrie is getting paid that much less when she's doing the most PR for the film. She and her dog are EVERY where for this thing and their interviews are getting hits in the millions on YouTube.

I am the previous generation? I was excited to see the Millennium Falcon again. An old Han and Leia didn't really do much for me.

If I was Boyega and Rodley's agent I would have gone hard on percentage points. You knew this movie was going to be huge.

Abso-fucking-lutely.

Basically movie studios set each movie up as a private entity. The studio then "charges" that movie X amount to distribute the move where X is slightly more than the movie made. That way the studio makes the money on paper but the movie then loses money on paper and they no longer have to pay actors who only make a % of the profits.

Is this still legal? That's insane.

So, in other words, J.J. officially makes more than Harrison once the movie breaks £894,000,000 (or ~$1.334b). Assuming we're talking about overall gross.

Bets on when that'll happen?

I can't think of anything notable Mark Hamill has done since Star Wars, voicing the Joker aside.

No disrespect to him, but he should have got himself a better agent.

I think he was just content doing voice acting work, in recent interviews he has talked about how he was hoping Harrison Ford would say no so he didn't have to do TFA, but since he did he didn't want to be the only OG cast member to say no.

Holy shit you all suck at math.

16.7 million British Pounds is around $25 million USD.

That's up front money.

Then he gets .5% of the gross which is .005.

Harder to say exactly how much this is worldwide because currencies are different in each country this movie will play in, but in the US this weekend, he made:

238,000,000 * .005 = $1,190,000

edit: oh and I forgot the $1.5 million for the broken leg.

Or he gets hamilled and never gets a role after the trilogy again. Nobody knows. Is there any actor that truly became successful after a Star Wars role that isn't Harrison Ford?

I guess that depends on how you define success. There's thousands of aspiring actors out there most of whom would kill to have Mark Hamill's exact career path. Yeah, he didn't become a megastar but not everyone can be Michael Jordan.

In general I think actors have a lot more opportunity to put themselves out there so typecasting isn't the problem it used to be.

Hope the percentage cut is good for the main cast (Rey, Finn, Kylo and Poe), because honestly they deserve more than £300k. Also, hope JJ's percentage cut pays off, because he deserves all the success for his work on the film.

He's already starring in 3 other big films besides Star Wars over the next few years. Boyega is sorted. I believe Daisy Ridley is doing her degree alongside Star Wars.

People shouldnt really bring major story spoilers into the salary thread when there's simply no need, it's a finance/Hollywood thread...

But at the same time, if you haven't seen the movie and youre in a Star Wars thread, why on earth did you highlight an unmarked spoiler? :L
